Most people are like you, though, and their cholesterol levels go down dramatically after a few months or even weeks. I'm still looking for other things to try without going on a statin. If nothing else works, I probably will eventually. For now, I don't want to lose the marker -- I want to see if I can bring it down through diet, exercise, etc.

I worked for the Milk Marketing Board for 6 months in 1979, I was vegetarian and I needed a job. The cows were put to the bulls and both had names, not numbers. The calves spent longer with their mothers and both lived longer. I tried being vegan and failed miserably, Plamil soya milk in the '70's came in a tin and it was diluted with water, tasted like earth! I did reduce my dairy consumption, difficult because I loved cheese, and learnt how to bake without eggs. Nine months after leaving the MMB I was given a leaflet by someone from The Vegan Society, 'What Happens To The Calf?' That was the day I became vegan.

I think it's the wrong angle to take, though. Sticking to the cruelty of the dairy industry makes sense because you're solely focusing on the animal then. But trying to shame people for drinking milk and making them out to be weirdos is just likely to cause defensive reactions that make the person think "I'll do what I want, f**k off judging me".

You're not very bright, then. You find it strange that babies which are incapable of eating solid food feed on breast milk, but that children who can eat solid food still go to an irrelevant source as a first option? Basically, they are suckling because they like it. We breast feed because babies need it. The kids have to eat real food to get enough calories, hence why breastfeeding them is stupid and a waste of time and resources.

Suffered some really bad acne even in my 20's. No matter what I did and how many doctors I visited, it didn't go away. Eventually I saw a documentary on food and how everything we consume goes into our skin right away. If we eat something that is bad; it will show up on our skin. As a test I switched dairy for plant based milk (almond and soy at that time, since it was the only ones available) and within two weeks my skin cleared up! Wish I knew about it much earlier since the bad acne has created some ugly scars.
Later on I found out how dairy is causing other illnesses such as cancers. Especially for me, who is in that risk group, it is a double win that I stopped consuming that stuff and it made me realize how much of a scam big dairy is.

#1 cause of heart disease is consuming simple sugars and polyunsaturated fats, which are chemically unstable, oxidize heavily before you even take them home from the store, and cause massive inflammation and completely trash your ldl.

I'm glad you're talking about the milk industry subsidies and the dairy checkoff program's advertising. Meat industries have government-mandated subsidies and marketing, too. The Farm Bill that allocates much of those subsidies every 5 years is currently being discussed, scheduled to be passed this month in the US. It's why many faux-milks and meats are not price competitive with animal products.

    • @Hubcool367
      @Hubcool367 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

The cozy relationship between animal agriculture and governments is crazy. It has been calculated that for every dollar a consumer spends on a Big Mac, the government (in other words, all of us) has paid 2. So animal agriculture is able to sell their products at a sticker price that is 1/3 of the actual price. They don't pay a single dime for doing pretty much as much environmental/climate damage as the fossil fuel industry. They don't pay a dime for all of the healthcare costs they are responsible for (unlike products like cigarettes where 80% of the price is taxes and the money ostensibly goes towards at least mitigating the damage). It's almost unbelievable how corrupt the whole thing is and how much effort has been out into trying to keep one of the most destructive industries on Earth alive. If governments had put half as much effort into solving every last societal problem as they put into trying to keep animal agriculture afloat, we would already be living in some post-scarcity Star Trek society.

I think it’s important to note that in a lot of areas, especially in the US/UK/EU, drinking milk has declined in popularity but a lot of omnivores AND vegetarians don’t see a problem with consuming milk in other ways (cheese, butter, milk powder concealed in products like crackers, etc.) The one that I hear mentioned a lot is yogurt. “Yogurt is healthy because it’s protein!” “Greek yogurt is so good for you!” Dairy propaganda extends SO much further then just straight milk and campaigns like got milk.

Thankfully there's more awareness of this absolutely bonkers concept! Well done Ed, you always do a great job ❤

I was diagnosed with a dairy allergy in high school, and it was a rough transition. You don't realize just how much dairy is in your diet, until you have to avoid it entirely. Luckily the last decade has seen a surge in dairy alternatives. I realized over the years that the amount of dairy in the American diet is an oddity among most cultures. The same applies to wheat products in the US. Food allergies opened my eyes to just how strange the food industry is in this country, and how little most people think about it.

From a young age, I had always had problems with my sinuses, my nose was always really blocked, and I had problems with a ridiculous amount of excess mucus and phlegm. I also had reoccurring tonsillitis.
    .
It was like I had a cold and was bunged up and stuffy all of time.
Over the years, I was prescribed all sorts of medicines and treatments for it...
    .
I was told I needed my adenoids out, that I was hyper sensitive to dust, that it was an infection (which lead to lots of different antibiotics) that it was because I've had my nose broken and so on.
    .
When I stopped consuming dairy, all of these problems stopped.

I spent most of my childhood, teens, and early 20s being seen by all sorts of specialists and not one of them suggested or mentioned it could have been related to consuming dairy products.

Same for me. I have allergic asthma and constant mucus and stuffed nose and sneezing. Sometimes it got so bad that I can't breathe - it feels like my lungs are full up and I've been hospitalised several times (showing low oxygen blood concentration) - once the doctor scolded me for not coming earlier as I had sepsis! I had to take Montelukast and Levocetrizine every day or the next day I would be stuffed up, sneezing, producing mucus and my heart would beat so fast it was very concerning.
The only animal product I was consuming regularly was milk twice or thrice a day in my tea. Once I went vegan, my allergies have really really improved and I no longer take medication. Sometimes I have mild symptoms but nothing I can't handle. I never thought it would be possible for me to stop medicating and be able to survive the next day not feeling I was dying.
What's happening to the real victims (the mothers and babies tortured for their milk) is so much more than our health problems though, we have to keep them as the focus.

I’ve been vegan for nearly 6 years, and was veggie for 4 years before that.
Before I went vegan, I was on medication for acne. Tried different types. Didn’t really work.
Within less than a week of quitting dairy, my skin was clear and I was able to discontinue taking acne medication.
Not once was I recommended to go plant-based or asked about my diet.
This should be told to people as an option.

When I was a kid the ad campaign was, "Milk, it does a body good. Pass it on." I remember thinking it was odd that the ads weren't for a specific brand, just milk in general. Just like the "Get cracking" campaign for eggs. No specific brand, just eggs.

Thank you Ed for illuminating what is truly a pathway to hell- the dairy industry!!! The abuse these poor creatures must endure for their short lives is hellish . In some ways the dairy industry is more cruel than killing for the flesh , cows are severely abused for longer periods and are killed when they decline producing . Whoever drinks milk , consume cheese or any milk product is directly responsible for this evil treatment of innocent and voiceless beings.

Dairy contains vitamins B2, B12, D, calcium and reduces the risk of colon cancer.

    • @jjradV

Apebek, cows milk is for growing a baby cow,it is very harmful to the human body.
People in countries that consume the most dairy also have the highest osteoporosis rates.
Despite the fantastic lies that dairy is good for humans ,milk actually robs our bones of calcium.
Dairy has been linked to prostate cancer and ovarian cancer.
Many people are lactose intolerant because the human body is not suppose to be consuming another species milk.
Dairy is also linked to acne and allergies.
A single serving of milk contains 24 mg of cholesterol, no plant foods contain any cholesterol.
Cows milk is full of harmful hormones and cows are often pumped full of antibiotics to keep them alive and producing milk in filthy conditions.
A single serving of whole milk contains more than 20 percent of daily recommended allowance of saturated fat.
      It causes unhealthy weight gain.
Milk is designed to meet the needs of a calves that gain hundreds of pounds in weight in just a few months.
A cow is not your mother, milk is not your milk, you should have been weaned.
Do you approve of killing new born male dairy calves shortly after birth because they don't produce milk ?
If you care about your health you will get all the nutrients you mentioned from plants without causing suffering and death to anyone. Please research the dairy industry and see for yourself the horrific cruelty and death you are causing and paying for.

Another great video. I wish there was another one to show that plant milk has long history too and that the attempts to force sellers of plant milks to find other names for plant milks. In my native German tongue we have sun milk (ie sun lotion) and even scour milk, an emulsion with abrasive minerals to get rid of persistent dirt. Lo and behold the public never needed to be shielded from these totally non-confusing uses of the word milk.
