THANK YOU so much for watching and supporting this one, folks!! This video was a HUUUGE lift in research, scripting, and editing. It also is a passion project so it means so much to have it out there.
cover protein!! when i told my friends who go to the gym i’m not eating meat anymore they were telling me I would have a protein deficiency when I am able to get protein from lentils, impossible, seitan. maybe the government was behind that too?
Vegan for 8 years and I still watch these kinds of videos occasionally to remind myself why I do it... Thanks for not showing any graphic footage but man that mama cow chasing her calf down the street had me crying. Thanks for putting this out there
for whatever this info is worth - as a 20y vegan who's hardest "giving up" was milk ingredients, I don't need these kind of movies to remind myself because it is already ingrained.
Just that when you put a tap on a maple tree, you get maple syrup, so the idea of wood milk is funny because we already eat tree material. @@alx4animalss
That was heart breaking. My wife (70 yo) and I (65 yo) went vegan about 2 years ago, prior to that my wife was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in the early 90s and she spent almost 30 years in pain. Took opioids for 20 years which didn't help, I started growing cannabis to get her off the opioids and the cannabis helped far more but still in pain. Went vegan and BAM 3 weeks later she is pain free, 30 years of pain all because of dairy. When we need milk for cereal or cooking I make my own from a half cup of organic hemp seeds and one third cup of organic rolled oats and a pinch of salt and 64 oz of filtered water and vitamix it for 1 minute I never strain it. Seeing things like this just reinforces our decision to go vegan.
Thank you for sharing that - I am totally going to try that hemp/oat milk! I never ventured into making my own just because the straining seemed like such a laborous, messy, and wasteful process but your way seems super easy!
@@BrookeYoder the whole process start to finish takes about 3 minutes to make 64 ounces of really good milk. No reason whatsoever to strain it. Oh and forgot 1 thing for the milk. Add about a teaspoon of liquid sunflower lecithin in it before you blend, it makes it a little creamier and helps to keep it emulsified better. The lecithin is good for you also
Merle, this video was everything!! I grew up on a farm (not dairy) but was familiar with cows and I STILL didn’t know that a cow had to be pregnant and give birth to produce milk until I was in my early 20’s!!!! In fact, I’ve had arguments with family members about it. I really love your approach and hope this vid reaches lots of eyes. ❤ I can’t wait for the other videos in this series!
I've been a vegan since sometime in the previous century and seen many videos about milk, but this is by far the best presentation I've seen! Most people have seen the cruelty stuff, the philosophical/spiritual side, and the nutrition side, but this presentation is much better with modern facts and a very fair approach! I think you should continue these videos!!
Thank you, Allen!!! I'm hoping this will be the first of many Conscious Consumer videos! LMK if there are any other industries/brands you'd like me to look into!
I love this video. everything you said is true, sadly people don't know basic facts... I'm a veterinary medicine student and this is exactly why I went vegan. I saw how animal products are being produced, I visited milk farms and slaughter houses. This whole industry is disgusting and what pains me is that people are not being educated about the proces, shown the grafic parts and facts of it, because if they were, the industry would die. The truth is that those animals, that people later eat or drink their milk, sit all day in artificial environment, legs deep in feces, udders, whole bodies even, nobody cares about the hygiene unless the herd gets ill and obviously not because they care about the animals but they don't want to lose (or not make) money. It's all about money, it's just business, it's not about our health and it never was.
Incredible job on this!! The research and execution of all this information was done in such a palatable and engaging way!! Can’t wait for more from this series!!!
Aria.. Please go vegan.. "All beings tremble before violence. All fear death. All love life. *See yourself in others.* Then whom can you hurt? What harm can you do?” -Siddharta Gautama Buddha I know you were raised Buddhist. Please consider it...
Gurrrrllll.....A. I'm still crying! B. You reminded me why an occasional cheese cheat is wrong. C. This is going to be an AWESOME series. and finally...please do one about chicken. Maybe if people saw what happened to boy baby chicks...... :(
She ate cultivated animal tissue (real chicken meat) she's only in this for the thumbs ups and subscribes. She has real vegans fooled and to thank for her success.
As someone who gave up meat, dairy, alcohol and cigarettes- I always need a reminder of why and why these things are bad for us. And why the good things are so good! Love you Merle! You are - always- magical!
Thank you for this. There’s so many others, but I’d identify eggs, chocolate and palm oil as areas that really need to be highlighted. The Food Empowerment Project has great resources about ethical chocolate sourcing. These broad area topics are SO important. If you do any company specific you can start w Nestle as you’ll have a plethora of info there!
I am an extremely avid dairy (and meat) consumer, but recently switched over to almond milk for the first time. Cow milk has messed with my digestive system since I was a child and I wasn't a fan of the taste of plain cow milk anyway, so on a whim I bought a few cartons of Silk almond milk. And it's simple to say I love it! I've tried their dark chocolate and vanilla flavours so far, and I am happy with it. I'm still consuming cow milk in cheese and yogurt and ice cream (they don't mess with my body like plain cow milk does for some reason), but switching to almond milk as my first dairy beverage alternative is a baby step I'm proud of nonetheless. It feels like a whole new world has opened up to me that I'm excited to explore!
I would hold off on switching to vegan cheese but there are great alternatives to ice cream and yogurt out there now that I would highly encourage you to explore!
Thank you for putting a non-traumatizing vid about the dairy industry. I'm vegetarian as I do consume cheese, but I'm playing with making different cheese with probiotics - Maybe you can have a cheese series to experiment with different recipes! Love this series tho! Great job!
Thank you! cheese series is a very interesting idea... I think there's a lot of great vegan cheese to be made, a lot of them just take a significant amount of time to make/ferment. but I'm sure there are some more basic, cashew-based ones (like pesto ricotta) that people would love to make day to day
Thanks for making this! Even though I know most of this information already, it's really nice to have an informational video they isn't filled with graphic depictions that I can share.
this is exactly the kind of content i'd love to see more of from you! i've been vegan for 2 years now, and know a lot about what goes into dairy, but there were even some things in this video i didn't know about that shocked me. thanks for using your platform like this
thank you so much for this merle!! i've been veggie for 10 years and vegan for the past few but kind of just naturally transitioned that way without really thinking. thank you for reinforcing why i made this choice as well as providing a good explanation for people who say 'why don't you have dairy though?' can't wait for more!!
I hope this video finds all the people that need to see it. I really appreciate the nonjudgmental, and non graphic content that feels much easier to share with friends and family. I’m coming up on 5 years vegan, one of the questions I get the most is about honey. I’d love a full in depth video about the honey industry I could reference.
Thanks so much Merle for this information, as a Vegetarian for the past 19 years and taking my first steps into a fully plant based life stile, I'm really concerned about the dairy-issue, even though I'm currently eating 2 -4 eggs per week, but Cheese as lactose-intolerant is totally out of my list. I tend to eat cheese just like at least 3-4 times per year, and only when my friends invited me to eat pizza but at the end of day I cannot stand more than 2 slices of 🍕 since my intolerance to milk, Thanks so much to open my eyes I was trying to find an reason to straight away quit milk but you gave me a lot of reasons why so thanks again for the valuable information.
BRILLIANT video. Informative and fun - no small feat. Looking forward to this series from you. Thanks for shedding light on this stuff. I see myself as pretty up to date on this shit, but there's lots of stuff in here I had no idea of. Thank you!
Thank you for your work with this video, I'm not vegan nor vegetarian but I am interested in this topic concerning the food we eat and the choices we make and how they impact us and the planet, so THANK YOU ☺
As a dairy loving person, this video has made me think about the ethics of consuming it. I do appreciate you trying to be objective about how you present it even though you may have some biases. I can't say I'm fully ready to give it up completely but I'm happy to reduce my consumption and eagerly await science to come up with some lab created alternatives. As for future topics, I think it would also be interesting for you to explore ethics and environmental impacts of vegan/plant based products farming. Example, California has limited water supply but continues to be one of the largest almond producers. Is it sustainable to keep growing almonds considering how much water they need?
I'm so glad you liked the video, and thank you for watching it even though you currently consume dairy! I'm glad it had you thinking differently. Lab-grown meat is going to change things big time
I know right!! Thanks for that presentation. To me it was very educational. Hopefully this video goes super viral just to get people to think. I appreciate this.
This is amazing, Merle! I truly think we need all types of people promoting the message because there are all types of people who don't know and will be more open to some presentations over others. You have a very gentle, unique touch that I think some people need and I really look forward to other videos in this series
Merle, this is freaking high quality content. The editing, superb, the pacing, so snappy, lighting and framing perfect. 😮 I intended to just start the video to see what you were trying to do and just ended up watching it straight through!
Same! I clicked out of curiosity because I love Merle's cooking videos but was not expecting the video to draw me in. I have been vegan for 8 years and never knew the history behind milk and that this was how milk became so popular. Eye opening.
Merle, Almost exactly 2 years ago I was doing research defending my 5 year vegetarian diet at the time. Learning that I was contributing to the harm and death of cows (and chickens) by consuming dairy products (and eggs) is what made me fully convert to veganism. These GOT MILK campaigns have gotten bold with celebrity endorsements. I imagine you've likely also seen the newest one featuring Queen Latifah. I'm glad we have creators like you that are able to put the information out there in a digestible (no pun intended) way that doesn't immediately turn off the average consumer. THANK YOU!
The Queen Latifah one I JUST saw and it hurtttt ugh but they’re clearly just getting so desperate with these huge campaigns, the demand just isn’t there!!
Merle this is fantastic!! Love the editing and the format! I hope that someday you can talk about Unilevel or Nestle or how big companies try to greenwash their foul ways. Congrats on this video I'm already excited for the shein one! Have a really nice day!
Coming back again to thank you for this video. It is such an excellent breakdown. This is the new Dairy is Scary that needs to be spread everywhere in the same way.
THANK YOU Merle!! I mostly focus on dairy when I do my activism. I stand in front of the dairy case in my grocery store( I am in South Florida) so Publix.....and I ask people to not grab the dairy out of the case, and I buy them a plant milk of their choice.......💚💚💚
Thank you so much for this. As a vegan 4.5 years strong, some of the facts and quotes on here will be useful when engaging in conversations with other people in a non-confrontational way. My colleague asked me today what is so wrong with eggs…. I explained about male chicks etc.. maybe you could cover the egg industry? Could also cover Temu as well as they are a human rights and environmental nightmare!
Wow Merle. Thank you so much for the video. I truly hope more people see this and feel as sad, disgusted and enraged as I did when I first saw these types of videos. I hope you inspire many people to change for the better. Vegan for 8 years and never looking back. 🤩🙌
I learned something new!! And I know a lot about this!!! Great work Merley- proud of you for the positive impact you’re making!! Love the idea of doing fast fashion next!
Merle, I really appreciate this video. I went vegan April 2022 mostly because of you. Going vegan never crossed my mind before I stumbled across your videos in my recommended feed. Your approach to vegan activism is very refreshing because of how kind and laid back you are. I do absolutely respect people like Ed Winters and Joey Carbstrong for the direct activism they do, but sometimes sewing those vegan seeds in nonjudgmental ways works best for some people. Going vegan has been the best decision of my life and I want to thank you for that. I want to share this video with others because it’s approachable and well researched. Amazing job. I think an egg video would also be great. That’s the other one that’s hard to explain sometimes in a conversation.
Thank you so, so much for this comment! It truly made my whole day, I love seeing some of The impact that these videos can have, makes the long editing nights worth it! 💚💚💚
only 4 minutes in and i’ve learned more about the history of dairy than i’ve ever known.. and I’ve been plant-based for almost 3 years 🫣 you did an amazing job in educating without traumatizing and judging people 👏🏽 great job merle! please do a deep dive on eggs next!! i find people share the same opinion on eggs “well don’t chickens lay eggs anyway?”
@@sonofliberty1 for realllll. when people are this passionate about animals, it’s really hard not to come off as judgemental cuz I think it’s safe to say that all humans love animals. but when you go vegan/plant-based, you start to look around you and notice how people’s actions don’t necessarily align with their beliefs
It's definitely a tough line to walk but Merle did it so well here (and also shattered my love of Ms Plaza). Loving animals is such a complicated ethical minefield.
Appreciate the time and effort you put into making this. I struggle to talk to non vegan friends about this because there is so often a defensiveness that comes up. You really do an amazing job of communicating with the non judgmental lens. Even without the graphic video clips, I was still in tears. That video of the momma chasing her baby makes me sob every time it comes across my feed 😭
Thank you for this video, Merle. Even us long term vegans need reminders sometimes. I think if this was a series, this will help inform a lot of people and maybe cause more to go vegan.
Great video, Merle. So many people refuse to see what’s behind… especially the billions of mothers whose babies get taken away every year just so we can take their milk 💔
Love you Merle❤ thank you for condensing this vital information. I definitely am going to share on my socials. And just know through some documentaries and your influence, my mom is mainly plant-based. And I try to be as socially conscious where I buy and source our food. I'm native american and so is my husband so we're doing our part to try and grow and raise our own food with rain water harvest so that we can be in better balance with mother earth. Your doing good work and never forget that matters.
Honestly this was such a good, informative video. I wish more people got to see this and other videos like this. I've been vegetarian for 20+years and didn't know a cow needs to be pregnant in order to produce milk until literally 3 months ago. Wild I know. I so agree with everything you said in this I think most of it does come down to ignorance. Most people don't know the most simplest facts regarding the dairy industry. If people were only aware of what it actually is I think or hope, we'd have so many more of them go plant based as the reality of it all it is not sustainable in the long run. This was so nicely put, well articulated and presented some very valid and non disputable facts. Not that I would have expected anything else from our vegan queen!! Thank you so much for putting this together and putting it out here, hopefully it reaches a lot of people and results in a lot of good decision making from people. I loved this so much it was definitely worth the wait and all the time and effort it got put into it! It's why we love you!❤❤❤
You really killed it with this video essay type video. Interesting and well-done. Anyone know if that lab grown milk will be okay for lactose intolerant folk yet?
This was really wonderful. I've been vegan for 13 years, and still appreciate these videos so much. Happy you're putting this info out in the world in your own fantastic way
GRAND APPLAUSE to you Merle for summarizing this so well! I would love to share this on my instagram stories but on instagram I don't see you plugging this video anywhere so I could share it. Maybe I am also just not skilled enough on ig to figure it out haha. Appreciate any help :)
I absolutely love your videos Merle! This is very eye opening and even though I already know most if not all of this information... This might have been the push I need to go fully vegan. (My partner and I have been vegetarian for over 7 years now.)
If it's hard to watch all that footage with how cows are being exploited, then it's a sign for you to leave dairy out. So far I've managed to replace dairy milk directly with vanilla soy milk in baking, I can even make whipped cream using just a few ingredients, nut-based cheeses using natural ferments (from sprouted wheat) thanks to Miyoko's "The Vegan Pantry" book and so much more. Actually, thanks to soy milk that contains natural emulsifiers, I could even create egg replacers for vegan eclairs (these are notoriously difficult to make vegan).
Thank you Merle, I’m sharing this video with my son! 😊 The car industry, using leather ect. while other materials exists. I can’t select non-vegan option in the Limited trim for the 2024 Kona EV.😮 I have to use seat covers maybe and write to the manufacturer because the dealership is not listening.
I love this!! Been vegan for 6 years but took the time to watch this and I've got to say, you've put a lot of effort into this and it shows in the quality of the video! Keep up the good work! I like that you're taking a change of pace with the educational series and will keep an eye out for more.
can you do one on tuna or fish in general? i've started eating tuna again because i'm eating in a deficit, but i plan to stop once i reach an optimal weight. everytime i eat it, i think about how the catching/harvesting of it might've looked like, etc.
Hi Merle, you may not get to read this but wanted to tell you that the other video ideas you said at the end seem very interesting and i'd love to see a video of you talking about them
Incredible video and eloquent! Thank you greatly Merle for making this video! This video needs to be shared with everyone and I could see it played in classrooms. Very informative and engaging. As a fellow vegan, this makes me so happy you made this video and posted it. Thank you for all of your impactful and fun content on this channel. It truly is inspiring. 💚
I was waiting for the section on why milk is bad for you with lots of info about milk containing saturated fat and cholesterol and why it's dangerous to consume because of the increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Also don't get me started on the excess hormones and antibiotics milk contains. Finally, I think people need to understand that it is NOT a necessity at all and that you can get all the nutrients and minerals you need without consuming any milk at all! And that's the wonders of a well-rounded plant-based diet!
The problem is that the sat fat and dietary cholesterol levels in are *not* clearly linked to worse cardiovascular disease. Cholesterol levels are mostly controlled by dietary fiber. Some studies show whole milk is better for heart health than skim milk. I think it was a good decision for Merle to leave these nutrient-based arguments to the side. Just like the calcium, etc., in milk isn't clearly helpful, the fat and cholesterol in milk isn't clearly harmful. There are better reasons to reduce or eliminate dairy products from one's diet.
Thank you for posting this. I am open to veganism but still disputing reasons internally and probably not committed enough to start soon. What would help me would be if Merle you could make more content on the subject of reasons, especially listing other sources you found useful. Love what you do! Happy Thanksgiving! I used to be vegetarian for years and years. I loved it but caved in due partially to a good source of ethically sourced meat. But now I just eat anything. Certainly more consciousness should be placed by me and everyone on what foods they consume. I just wanted to share my whole story. I haven't yet but I'm texting on a phone. Lol
Thank you so much for putting your time and energy into this topic. I appreciate your nonbiased and factual approach, and I am excited to share this with my non-vegan friends
As a huge dairy fan im really scared to watch this bc i know I’ll hear harsh truths im not ready to hear. But this knowledge is soooo important. Thank you Merle for talking about things that are hard for some of us to hear
I'm not currently vegan but I've dabbled on and off many times over the years. I haven't really done dairy milk in years. I usually change alternative milks with the trends but recently went back to fortified unsweetened soy. Butter and ice cream are also completely do-able dairy free. But, cheese... omg. I'm hopeful for the recent advances in vegan casein. My last round of trying to be vegan just resulted in avoiding cheese altogether. Every time I dive in, when I come out, I maintain more of that lifestyle. Maybe one day, it will stick.
Goat cheese can be pretty ethical (compared to Cow cheese) depending on your local farm situation. Had a chance to visit a small goat cheese farm recently local to our area and it was nothing like depicted here for the cow dairy industry, these goats live pretty well and are not "used up" or separated from their young
I’m an oatly drinker, I haven’t drunk milk since my second child 5 years ago… well except for occasionally accidentally breaking ‘my vegan’. It is SO hard to give up and stay 100% dairy free, it’s addictive and so delicious. But when I see another animal in pain and suffering it hurts my heart. I really hope lab grown alternatives are available within my lifetime bc I’d love to try that, but for now I’ll stick to my veggie substitutes, which you are a helpful source of info on. Merle Investigates 🕵🏻♀️🥛
Look up Bored Cow... not sure where you're based but it's plant-based dairy made with microflora... I honestly don't think I'd like it 'cause I hate that aftertaste of dairy... but if that's your thing they might be a good option if you can get access to it.
@@rabbitcreative technically not but it depends why ppl don’t eat dairy or even meat and fish. Lab grown isn’t torturing and slaughtering sentient beings. I’m vegan bc I don’t want to hurt animals or contribute to factory farming and environmental damage. Not bc I don’t like the taste of cheese!
Ima just say it… I have befriended you as my best friend. You are the reason I went vegan YEARS ago, while you were at tasty. We have gone through this shit hole of the government, together.
I've been slowly transitioning to plant based milk after having noticing that i get more phlegmy from drinking cow's milk. If I hadn't thought about switching to plant based milk completely, I have now. Thank you for being completely transparent about how we get milk and where it comes from.
Great information, and I appreciate you not wanting to "shame" us people who chose to consume animal products. That being said, as a person who consumes animal products, I do not support Factory Farming. There is a difference between Factory/Commercial Farming and Local farmers who are trying to be as "ethical" as possible with their animals. I love your content and I do make vegan choices, and I make sure if it's a animal product being purchased it's not from some big box corporation. Not trying to offend, you bring amazing knowledge 🥂
Oh man, I bawled when you got to the part where the babies got ripped from their mother's. I won't ever go back, I can't justify the extreme suffering of another being. ❤
Thank you for using your platform to speak about this really important issue! If we hold justice and total liberation as values, we must be consistent. It's liberation for ALL - not just for those who look like us, or who we think are "cute enough" to care about. 🐄
Love this, Merle. What I'm trying to figure out though is why milk? Why is the government backing that particular product so hard? I feel like I'm missing something.
Ok, so I’ve been dabbling in vegan recipes for several months, watching your ranking and recipes videos. I watched this video 15 days ago, and have now been full vegan since that day. That mama cow chasing her baby. Gah! Thank you for giving me the kick in the ass to just do it. Also, I sent this video to a friend who I knew would be receptive and she is now vegan too as of a few days ago. Thank you ❤
Love the video! I'd love to see you do a deep-dive into cheese, the cheese caves, and casein! It's the reason people always so to me, "Oh, I wish I could go vegan, but I could never give up cheese!".
Merle you put so much great work into this video and I absolutely love seeing more in this series!!! I'd actually love to see your thoughts on the "Give Swordfish a Break" and the fishing industry as one
Soy. I would love a video explaining / debunking the ‘too much soy is bad for you’ bullshit. People are like, I can’t have soy I have breast cancer history in my family, but eat dairy products all full of hormones. (I understand some studies have shown some folks with a family history shouldn’t drink 5 cups of soy milk per meal, but even just a tofu dinner I’ve heard people say that soy is bad…like wtf do you think is in your chicken nuggets?!?! Like make it make sense!!! )Thanks for all you do!! So appreciate your hard work spreading the good word 😊
I've been vegetarian for a few years and would like to stop eating dairy and eggs, but I cook for my mom too and she won't get rid of them. Animal rights and sustainability aside, the conditions that animals are raised on in factory farms don't produce something I want to consume. Mammals are born with an enzyme to digest lactose, but they stop producing it as they grow up and stop drinking their mother's milk. In pastoral cultures in northern Europe, Africa, and Middle East, during times of hardship, people who had a mutation that let them keep digesting lactose could supplement their diet with milk from their livestock were more likely to survive. There's also archaeological evidence of cheese, yogurt, and other fermented milk products in those regions dating back several thousand years. But human populations from other regions did just fine without dairy for thousands of years too.
Perhaps you can work on reducing dairy consumption while you’re w your mom w the goal of ditching it in the future. 😊. You’re probably already aware but some cheeses are not vegetarian friendly so perhaps you could cut those first .
Can you look into the Egg instustry because many people including myself wonder if it's okay to have eggs? I'm trying to eat less meat and move towards a vegetarian vegan mostly life style and lose weight eat healthy etc
@@MerleONealawesome thankies. :) and maybe also comparing vegetarian and vegan and obviously people will choose but also if it’s possible to be an ethical vegetarian and also and unethical vegan etc :) Thank you
Hey Merle. Not a vegan but someone who does look for alternatives and include non animal sources of nutrition in their diet/or meals. This video has been quietly echoing in my head when I’ve been consuming dairy. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for as someone who was socialized into eating animal products. I don’t want a video to cause enough shame to make me not act but something that pushes me in the right direction and makes me a more conscious consumer.
There is a company that Is making milk that is grown from milk protein. They are trying to make it for vegans because it's crulty free. Well I'm allergic to animal protein and prefer the plant milks over the real one. No mucus or inflation anymore since I stopped digesting dairy in my early 30s. And after becoming vegan, no more IBS and night sweats too. The fact they have Aubry plaza and even now queen Latifah making fun of vegans and trying to promote milk sounds desperate. If everyone got sick from having dairy, it would all stop. Even when they forced plant based milk to not be called milk is another tactic of desperation because more people are going to the alternative.
This is soooooo informative. Thanks so much. I went vegetarian about a year ago and this has convinced me to become vegan. One thing I was thinking about is the environmental impact of play based milk as compared to cows milk as that wasn't covered. I.e. if most of the population goes vegan, do we run into the same kinds of problems in producing plant milk? I don't know the answer. Just wondering.
Love this Merle! I have a hard time watching those vegan docs so am into these synopses. Also soy (organic, non gmo) is not bad for you, that was a propaganda campaign by the dairy industry imo. Lots of studies show how beneficial and life extending it is
THANK YOU so much for watching and supporting this one, folks!!

Another idea: Chocolate/cocoa!
"ethical slaughter" and "free range" lies perpetuated by the meat industry
Definitely looking forward to fast fashion! Honey would also be interesting

@ErinChamberlain Hopefully you will have the same response my wife had, was life changing for her

What harm can you do?”
-Siddharta Gautama Buddha
I know you were raised Buddhist. Please consider it...
Gurrrrllll.....A. I'm still crying! B. You reminded me why an occasional cheese cheat is wrong. C. This is going to be an AWESOME series. and finally...please do one about chicken. Maybe if people saw what happened to boy baby chicks...... :(
this is a great idea, "the truth about eggs" would pair perfectly with this one
It feels like a whole new world has opened up to me that I'm excited to explore!
prouda you!
Of course!! I'm glad it served its purpose
this is exactly the kind of content i'd love to see more of from you! i've been vegan for 2 years now, and know a lot about what goes into dairy, but there were even some things in this video i didn't know about that shocked me. thanks for using your platform like this
thank you so much for this merle!! i've been veggie for 10 years and vegan for the past few but kind of just naturally transitioned that way without really thinking. thank you for reinforcing why i made this choice as well as providing a good explanation for people who say 'why don't you have dairy though?' can't wait for more!!
Adding it to the list!!!
Thank you!!!!!
This is amazing, Merle! I truly think we need all types of people promoting the message because there are all types of people who don't know and will be more open to some presentations over others. You have a very gentle, unique touch that I think some people need and I really look forward to other videos in this series
Thank you for saying so 💚 I appreciate it
Thank you for covering up this topic! I’m crying every time it pops up…😭
Merle, this is freaking high quality content. The editing, superb, the pacing, so snappy, lighting and framing perfect. 😮 I intended to just start the video to see what you were trying to do and just ended up watching it straight through!
THANK YOU SO MUCH 😭😭😭 this one took forever to make so that really means the world to me
Same! I clicked out of curiosity because I love Merle's cooking videos but was not expecting the video to draw me in. I have been vegan for 8 years and never knew the history behind milk and that this was how milk became so popular. Eye opening.
Thank you so much for this 🙏 Sharing with all of my friends!
Thanks for sharing!!
Ohh yes... about how 3 companies produce like 90%+ of the worlds products - looking at Monsanto
Oh yessss!!! And then Billy Boi Gates and the rest of them mfs.
this is a GREAT IDEA I'm adding it to my list! Thank you!
Coming back again to thank you for this video. It is such an excellent breakdown. This is the new Dairy is Scary that needs to be spread everywhere in the same way.
Thank you for the love, it was definitely a passion project
I'm gonna add eggs to my list for this series!
Wow Merle. Thank you so much for the video. I truly hope more people see this and feel as sad, disgusted and enraged as I did when I first saw these types of videos. I hope you inspire many people to change for the better. Vegan for 8 years and never looking back. 🤩🙌
@MerleOneal very well said and bravo to elaborating on this hot topic to the masses. Have a great rest of your week!
It truly made my whole day, I love seeing some of
The impact that these videos can have, makes the long editing nights worth it! 💚💚💚
I’ll definitely add eggs to the list for this series
only 4 minutes in and i’ve learned more about the history of dairy than i’ve ever known.. and I’ve been plant-based for almost 3 years 🫣
you did an amazing job in educating without traumatizing and judging people 👏🏽 great job merle!
please do a deep dive on eggs next!! i find people share the same opinion on eggs “well don’t chickens lay eggs anyway?”
coming back to this after getting some work done and @15:00… the saddest part man… thank you for not leaving this out
I totally agree that this non-judgemental and (mostly) trauma-free content is the best way to let people come to their own conclusions.
@@sonofliberty1 wow couldn’t have said it better myself! (just letting you know, i’m taking that 😅! “complicated ethical minefield”)
I’m about to start sobbing at work. 😢 thank you for sharing
Thank you Merle this was very well put together and eye opening. Dairy is scary
18:57 My favorite is full fat, unsweetened, coconut milk, after that is soy milk.
I'm so glad you liked it. It's a delicate balance to educate people without feeling judgmental. I'm glad you feel like we pulled that off here!
It's why we love you!❤❤❤
Thank you for your kind words, it means the world. this video was a looong process so truly thank you!
I'll be publishing some shorter break downs soon!! Thank you for your interest
I absolutely love your videos Merle! This is very eye opening and even though I already know most if not all of this information... This might have been the push I need to go fully vegan. (My partner and I have been vegetarian for over 7 years now.)
I'm so beyond happy to hear this
If it's hard to watch all that footage with how cows are being exploited, then it's a sign for you to leave dairy out.
Thank you so much for sharing!
I love this!! Been vegan for 6 years but took the time to watch this and I've got to say, you've put a lot of effort into this and it shows in the quality of the video! Keep up the good work! I like that you're taking a change of pace with the educational series and will keep an eye out for more.
Thank you so very much 🥹💚
I don’t know enough about privatized water. I’d be interested to see something about that. Love your videos btw, Merle! ❤
can you do one on tuna or fish in general? i've started eating tuna again because i'm eating in a deficit, but i plan to stop once i reach an optimal weight. everytime i eat it, i think about how the catching/harvesting of it might've looked like, etc.
Added to the list’
Thank you Merle!!
Fabulous video. Thank you for amazing information and content. Would love to see content around the ultra processed food industry.
Thank you!! Sharing this with ppl I know
Thanks for sharing!!
Thank YOU so much for your kindness
Aww thank you!! 😁😊🤙✌️☀️💚
Lol
This video needs SO MANY MORE VIEWS sharing!!
Thank you so much for putting your time and energy into this topic. I appreciate your nonbiased and factual approach, and I am excited to share this with my non-vegan friends
I knew about lab grown chicken but i had no idea lab grown milk was in the works. Can you make a video talking more about them?
Great idea!
As a huge dairy fan im really scared to watch this bc i know I’ll hear harsh truths im not ready to hear. But this knowledge is soooo important. Thank you Merle for talking about things that are hard for some of us to hear
All the fake milk is super unhealthy. Vegans want you to eat nonsense from a lab. Dairy is super healthy
@@atCatLeigh one look at the ingredients list of vegan bean juice should be self explanatory.
Please do an episode on fast fashion and textile waste. (Including what happens to the clothes people mindlessly donate to the Goodwill). 🙏🏻
I honestly don't think I'd like it 'cause I hate that aftertaste of dairy... but if that's your thing they might be a good option if you can get access to it.
> lab grown alternatives
Not vegan.
Hell yes, thanks for making this Merle
Thank you for watching it!!
I've been slowly transitioning to plant based milk after having noticing that i get more phlegmy from drinking cow's milk. If I hadn't thought about switching to plant based milk completely, I have now. Thank you for being completely transparent about how we get milk and where it comes from.
Love to hear you’re incorporating more and more plant-based options! I hope you’re feeling less congested 💚
I love the way the story is presented, girl
Thank you
Great information, and I appreciate you not wanting to "shame" us people who chose to consume animal products.
Thank you so much for sharing this video!
Thank you ❤
Well done, Merle. Thanks for talking about this. Very beneficial. Keep going.
Love this new concept !!! ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
TUVM, Merle! That’s why I’m vegan for almost 20 years! Cheers🍀❤️🔥
Aboslutely!!! I would love to do that as a part of this series
@@MerleONealawesome thankies. :) and maybe also comparing vegetarian and vegan and obviously people will choose but also if it’s possible to be an ethical vegetarian and also and unethical vegan etc :)
Thank you
So interesting! Love this series you’re going to do!
I'm so glad!
I want this to go viral!!!!! ❤
In the UK we had a Milk Marketing Board, and for those old enough - the talk in Europe of Milk Lakes, and Butter Mountains.....
Damn. Very well done. Have never really liked the taste of regular cow’s milk anyway.
Great job Merle! ❤
Thank you so much for this content! this is amazing
Love this video! Openmindedly driven, warm, and oh so informational! 👏🐮💚
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this! Thank you so much for making content like this :) A couple ideas: Palm oil and Nestle!
Adding them to the list!!
Love this Merle! I have a hard time watching those vegan docs so am into these synopses. Also soy (organic, non gmo) is not bad for you, that was a propaganda campaign by the dairy industry imo. Lots of studies show how beneficial and life extending it is
thank you for this!
This is your best video. Thank you so much
