Loved this video, made me feel confident that what I hope to do, HRT and perhaps SRS in the future isn't about consigning myself to being the other gender, it's about being me.

Was a very informative lecture. I just wish the society was more open about these issues..it would have given more clarity to to the critics. God bless!

There are many wonderful Trans people who transitioning is necessary. However I think for many people might have this conversation in their head, "Is this what is means to be a male? well I am not that, I must be Trans!" And they try to Transition and they find it doesn't work out for them. Maybe if we didn't strictly define gender we may have more gender fluid people. Thanks for the Talk Alexander.

@supasaul i think thats what he asking, why not change are perspective because it doesnt matter what gender when you're born but what you achieve in life. The nature of humans are continuously changing, i mean at one point in history alot of humans thought black and white people where different species! Nothing is ever set in a society and I see it as the more knowledge we acquire and pass on, the better changes our civilisation will make. :)

@supasaul: Well, you're already adapting to his thinking, because you're referring to him as "him." Complexity is neither good nor bad in and of itself - just messy. If you ask me, simplicity is a step forward. People can be who they want and marry who they want.

When the speaker paused to reveal their actual "true" sex being female, it was almost as if applause was expected, or at least a moment of amazement from the audience. To me it was quite evident this person was a female who had been taking hormones. Yes, the title of the talk may give it away, but when you look at the facial features, skin, mannerisms, body build, it just screams female. Same goes for the male transgenders when "transitioning" to female. Point is, are the rest of us (society) suppose to embrace and applaud these choices as if these "transgender" individuals are some new brave heroes of the generation out to change the world for the better? I still see a very confused woman here. A woman who decided to keep her female genitalia , but to the world present herself as a male. If I were her mother I would be beating my head against a wall trying to figure out what the HELL I did wrong to have done such a screwed up head job on my little girl.

if you were his mother, would you not want him to be happy and be successful, despite whatever your opinions are about a social issue? it's very likely that if he weren't given the chance to present himself as a man, he would've commited suicide, like 41% of transgender people do. The world isn't supposed to take transgender people as heroes, we're just supposed to respect them and let them do what they want to be happy and successful, just like we do for everyone else.

FexloGuitar If she were my child she would not have been so confused in the first place. I would have gotten her help at the first sign of any type of mental struggle she was dealing with. I would have made myself available to talk and listen. I would of helped her through it. It's still not to late for this young woman's mother to do just that.
Why do you think she is okay now? Have you read the other stories? The one's about the regrets? The transgenders who realized they had made a mistake, but they had gone to far to go back now? What about their support? What happens when they commit suicide? Being unhappy with your body, who you are, and depression are mental illnesses.
Don't preach when you are the problem. This isn't a social issue. This is a life and death issue. Liberals need to think before they speak. If you really want to help people, animals, the environment, the world, take the time to think about the whole picture before you pick up your damn signs and take to the streets.
This world is so messed up because of people like yourself that today's youth is the most effed up generation this world has ever seen. Loving, beautiful, intelligent, but mentally unstable as they come. Mutilating themselves, killing each other, destroying property, disrespecting authority and hating God. All thanks to the good intentions and "tolerance" theory of the good old Liberals like yourself.

+judy Osborne I am completely certain that this man does not regret what he's chosen to do, bexause he is able to get up in front of a crowd and talk about his choices in a positive light, and he's doing far better now, as he said. There are times when people decide to transition and realize they've made a mistake, but they are an incredibly small minority among the transgender community. You're right that this is a life and death issue, because if dysphoria is a mental illness, then it has a cure. Alexander has had that cure, and he no longer struggles with dysphoria.

FexloGuitar I am sure most of the people who have made this choice have spoken about the transition in a positive light at some point. This does not prove that somewhere down the line this woman is not going to regret her decision. You say there are "an incredibly small minority among the transgender community" that regret their decision, but where is the data to back that up?
Do you actually know this speaker "Alexander", or are you speculating? What exactly makes you so certain she is over her struggles with body dysphoria ? Do you really think dressing as the opposite sex is a cure for this mental disorder? Is starving oneself to death a cure for anorexia? How about "cutting" ? Used to make me feel better. Would you have let me continue to do it if I had been your child? Hey! "Thin feels better than food tastes". I'm glad my Mom was there, but that's just me.

judy Osborne I do in fact know him personally. While I don't have any studies on this, I have not met a single person who has regretted their decision, and I've met many people of all ages who have been helped by expressing themselves the way they wish. It's an interesting comparison you make to anorexia or cutting, but dressing as you feel fit isn't harming yourself in any way. He hasn't been hurt by the process, and he feels better about himself now, so what's wrong with it?

i think his perspective with all respect is illogical. it really does matter because in our present society, things are much more complicated and the rules of society that see people as male and female are already set. If we adapt his thinking, then society would start to revolutionize and nature as we know it will change(weird). trasgender ppl just woulnt survive.
