I don't expect a ' thank you ' but I deserve it. So I create a boundary towards people who don't appreciate my efforts and don't give back!

I just found your video at 4 AM while doing some home cleaning and organizing-and I’m so happy I did. As I reflect on everything that was presented, I couldn’t be more pleased that I chose 2024 as my sabbatical year to rest, reconnect with myself, and set boundaries. There’s so much to continue doing on this journey of self-care, but I couldn’t agree more with the doctor’s statements about guilt. In my case, I sometimes have to shut out those whispers, or they overpower my ability to decide what is best for me!

I’m so glad to hear the way boundaries were redefined and explored here. I feel like it’s become a way of just blocking, canceling, opting out anything that’s uncomfortable or inconvenient for us, and I think there’s so much more to it than that. I love the idea of understanding where these feelings of guilt and responsibility or obligation are coming from so that the decisions we make to do something or not come more from exploring our intentions and being conscious of why we’re doing these things in the first place. So helpful.

All the idea of self care has done has made people selfish. Not everyone is able to do all things. As a society we need to work with each other and share our gifts and strengths. Some people need help in society and we are abandoning them with this ideology. This trend needs to go. It's over. I am so tired of hearing about influencers and all their self care rituals. In order for society to evolve and for humanity to become more conscious we need to focus instead on things like selflessness and humility. In this day age people who have these traits are the real superheroes.

This episode hit home to me in so many ways. I am a TA in the Kindergarten at an International school who is going through perimenopause while I have an 8 and 6 year old, the first of which is in a crucial academic stage in our primary school system while I still work part time remotely for my old job also while this weekend I tried to restart the Montessori toddler program that I used to have before covid by offering a pop up class while having deadlines for: my second job, anecdotal notes for my lead teacher's reports, an assignment for a literacy course that I am enrolled in as a part of PD and I have to help my 8 year old complete homework and it's already 1pm on Sunday with the work week ahead right on my heels. I am SUPER guilty of constantly seeking the escape - every week I say I am going to sell all of my possessions and live on a remote island in the Outer Hebrides and sell Caribbean delicacies to the local fishermen 😄 I definitely need to "take the pause" so I will be finding those 20mins today to read my book - as simple as that. Thank you for this episode

Wow love this episode so much! And it’s coming at the right time as I’ve noticed so many people are understanding self care wrong. I was the one lying down on the yoga mat feeling guilty that I said no to more work or not cleaning the house! Real Self care is being aligned with the action we decided to take to look after our mental and physical wellbeing. If taking a bubble bath and going back to working until late, you simply void the bubble bath effect.

I’ve been “doing “ yoga consistently for 24 years. It took me 20 years to actually start taking the class. When I see newbies that start at age 50-60, I fear they will never actually attend a yoga class. Quite a journey. We call it “monkey brain” Our brains jump from limb to limb with zero focus on what we are doing. This is in and out of yoga. The hardest thing you’ll ever do is be still and present.

Really enjoyed this episode. I'm definitely struggling with feelings of guilt since my perimenopause as left me with crippling symptoms that mean I can't drive or go many places with my kids. And then there is my relationship with my new partner which has been under a lot of strain and stress because of this, but also because his ex wife is horrible and wont let me be around their daughter. Not exactly sure what I did wrong, but that is one of those 'situations' that is constantly draining me. I'm going to take some time this weekend (while my kids are with their dad) to really reflect and see where I can draw some boundaries and start to work on more self care.

Do I feel motivated to tackle my tasks, or am I overwhelmed or apathetic? 19:33
Are there any situations that are constantly draining me?
Do I make time for rest or am I always pushing through and gritting my teeth?
Do I ask for help and actually receive it?
Am I making time for things that truly matter to me, not to society or boyfriend but me, or am I constantly caught up in things that don’t serve me?

    Dear Mel and Pooja
Omg - how much insight I got from this episode. I was always not good at boundaries and self care as I really did not know how to address them. Always felt the guilt and confusion of why I don’t feel good when I take that yoga class or walk or sit and take a cup of coffee at a coffee shop, buy some good clothes. The constant nagging why “ I don’t feel better “ “ it feels awkward” all these made me think I am made weird or wrong or I am selfish or what do others think of me. Being raised in India with all the strong rules of how a woman should be and behave - always found stuck and hard to breathe.
I am going to set 20 mins today to breathe in what Pooja said and set what is bothering me and take action.
Always loved you shows Mel - you always nail the questions that we want to ask, simple and straightforward . It has given me more clarity to what and why and how I am in this life - you are totally like a big sister I never had.
If no one tells you today - I love you, I deeply respect you and I believe that you will live long and healthy to help many people struggling to get answers and walk with them hand in hand to lead them to happier and more fulfilling lives. Thank you Mel.

Omg I was trying to watch this yesterday I didn't get around to and I was in the shed working on something and venting to the talk and I looked at him and was like so what do you think and he just looked at me and was like wow mom you need a chill pill. And that is what I learned from this is to pause and take a minute listen to myself and dig dipper and just breath. Great episode.

It's hard when we feel guilted into helping out a family member we truly love. I have mother issues and as much as I have tried to set healthy boundaries and to have the courage to say No, my heart just breaks and I give in. I am an empath and I hurt when I see people who need help. But, nobody helps me and that is unfair.

I work in a healthcare office setting and we have to use our PTO for major holidays that we are closed to keep our hours for our benefits. This means no personal days or paid holidays at all and it takes years to earn any vacation time.

The doctor never answered the question Mel asked: when you see all these people on social media, or wherever, doing the things you think you*should* be doing, how do you deal with that? (She went off on the subject of boundaries, but never answered that really legit question!)

I really liked the information on guilt and the sushi con conveyor belt. Acknowledge the feeling but let it go by. So often I would be told don’t feel guilty but guilt is a feeling. Acknowledging and letting it go. I’m hoping this will help. A lot of good info here with this podcast.

I agree Mel in regards about taking care of an aging parent. I finally learned to set healthy boundaries and the key of having a healthy boundary is sticking with it. And it does get easier and if guilt creeps in ask your self is this helpful? No it’s not replace with a positive thought of great-fulness❤ the conveyor belt as she expressed let it go right on by. (This is self care ) ( Boundaries are power and protection)

Thank you for existing! Love the make you impact on so many lives. Thank you! I'm struggling with, and I'm sure many wood be struggling too, dealing with in-laws.
My mother-in-law and sister in law are very manipulative, overly sensitive and like any in laws, they go beyond the set boundaries and just it becomes difficult to deal with them because they are family. I hope you make a video to deal with in laws specifically. What are the boundaries, what are some ways to coexist because I'm have to live with them coming from different cultur.
