I contacted MacGregor and was told the V-Max line will not be sold in the USA. That makes no sense at all to me these clubs look much better and more attractive than what is offered by them in the USA! These look like great clubs for beginners as well as seniors.

Next i went to an ex pal of mine who has just retired having had a massive pro shop for 50 years, he said these are not MagGregor as we no it, the trading name has been purchased by a trading group, he was offered the drivers in a deal to stock them, he was asked to sell them at £50, cost to him £10, he did it and yes they were okay for the price, but very cheap components. The old adage, you get what you pay for. that said, ive tried the 3 driving iron for 6 rounds, it still looks great, performed well and having showed it to golfing pals, some immediately ordered one. So independent to James and for what it’s worth, great golf club at incredible price, oh, and my nephew is made up.
As an older retired guy, I love these inexpensive new club reviews. I have a lot of friends who are wanting to play again and they don’t want to buy expensive clubs or use clubs. These are a great alternative for them. I personally am a Golf Club freak like you guys so I’m always going for the new stuff.
If you don't have the money why buy new stuff, buy older stuff that's tried and tested. Golf is a rich mans sport no reason not to take advantage of that.

I just cancelled an order for Ai Smoke irons and ordered these irons as well as a 5 hybrid. Due to several physical issues and 6 surgeries I have had to take a 12 year hiatus away from golf. I look forward to trying these out. I would like to see a full break down of these on your simulator. Thanks James.
Hi James, I just wanted say thank you for your honest review of the macgregor v max irons as I have been keeping a close watch for these. I used to play golf twice a week but osteoarthritis in my lower back, neck and hips stopped it dead. I have now had lower back surgery and recently a full hip replacement with the aim of getting back to golf. I got the driver after your review and as I’m 60 now I got the irons with the graphite shafts. By the end of this summer I want to be playing regularly so fingers crossed 🤞 Ta Lol
You guys will flip if McGregor ever sends the U.S. versions over there. They have 3 beginner/game improvement cavity backed sets from $189-$329. The $429 (beginning at) MACSPD hollow bodies look as physically nice in pictures as Takomos. Chris should love to try out the two forged MT bladey sets and the "nostalgic" Mt86 line is unique looking if nothing else. For the MACSPD and above the KBS Max 85 shaft is standard with options for switching to spendier KBS or UST graphite.
My 1st "real" set of irons were McG Heritage irons. I had a pkg set and I kept cracking the faces on the irons. Definitely recommend buying something like these or 2nd hand
I just took up the game 18 months ago, and was looking my own set this year. 27 handicapper so needed lots of forgiveness. These def would have been considered, but ended up with the RAM hybrid irons set and very happy with them. So much more confident compared to the irons I had before. At a great price too. Would have risked the Eleven hybrid set but the RAMs were half the price!
I've heard lots of people on TH-cam say that Wilson is the most underrated club in golf. I wouldn't really push back on that, but personally I do think it's Macgregor. I've been so impressed with the stuff I've hit from them recently. Their Mt-86 irons are awesome.
I went and found the VMax 4 driving iron after your review James, after a few holes getting used to it I've ditched the hybrids and enjoying using this off tee & fairway 👍
@@hnnngbrah It is not that bad. A blade is a player's club. Two different titles, same thing. Muscle backs are similar except they have more material directly behind the sweet spot. Also, for the more advanced player. Game improvement is used incorrectly on MANY irons. What you need to look for is wider soles and/or cavity backs.
I really like these kinds of reviews. I’m pretty new to golf and when I look up reviews I mostly see the big brands and the ocasional DTC review. It’s nice seeing reviews of affordable clubs.
I just bought a set of i500 for less than these McGregors.I really think this is the way to go.and I’m quite sure that in two or three years I will still be able to sell them for much more than these clubs are going to sell for.

I bought a set of McGregor irons for my son. I hit McGregor in the 90s and they were always a great set. They used to be pretty big in the golf market.

Can we really talk about their history when some random investors just bought the name? I hope they do great things, but it's tough to take their history into account when they seem to have been a foreclosed company until somebody grabbed it.
I'm still using my MacGregor MT Tourney irons that I had custom fitted back in 2003, still do the job for me. I had a break from golf for 4 years but started playing again 2 years ago, I've had a series of lessons last summer and the club pro said MacGegor irons used to be good clubs back in the day. I've just started to break 100 on the odd occasion and my best round to date was 90. They are showing their age a bit now.

I still play a set of NVG2 irons from McG, and they’re fine for the amount of play I get these days. Might look at these. I still have the NVG2 woods and a V-foil driver. I’ve always enjoyed this brand more than the TaylorMades I’ve owned - well, except for the Ti Bubble2 irons - greatest set ever.

Hi James i have been on the Macgregor site and seen some other new irons , the MacGregor MACSPD Irons which look the same type design as most of the new takomos and caley irons also the MacGregor MT-Pro Irons, both around $499 with top quality shafts and grips, probably would be same in Pounds sterling over here i would hope, but i dont think you can get them... have you seen or heard anything about them?
I'm very confused as a person from the USA...it seems that the company is completely different from UK to US....these clubs are no where to be found on the US site....and interestingly the clubs on US site are not listed on the UK one. I'm stumped.
Do a review on all their new clubs. Mt pro, mt milled, Mac speed, fairway, driver etc. for the price I’m hoping I made a good purchase with the mt pro players blade. Several shaft and grip options on all their clubs! Can’t beat their price imo.
Replace the red color with silver or matt black against the shiny black and you might have a nice looking club …. 250 pounds /350 dollars is great for a starting set …. I would be worried about quality though, at that price something’s gotta give.. 🤷♂️
I have a brand you need to try. Tommy Armour they have driver, woods, irons. Price is very reasonable. My golf league partner uses the driver and woods. He hits the driver 290+ yards.
James please try the New RAM FXT irons, new for 2024. £305 with stiff graphite shafts : ) I have there in stiff graphite and the may be of interest! FX77 are very similar to the P790s.

Just get Maltby irons. That red on the ones in this video makes them pretty ugly. Can’t lie. I’ve heard from others you can’t get these MacGregors in the US.

Try checking Ram golf. They are part of the same company and sometimes flip what they sell.

I bought the driving iron and love it. The quality is excellent and for me the red sets the look of the club off.
For new golfers, yes, use game improvement clubs. Do not spend a fortune on clubs. As you develop you will learn what you like and need.
I am new to golf and the names of the "types" of clubs is super confusing. "players irons"? "Muscle back"? "game improvement"? "Blades"?
