I’m a hairstylist and I would say do a smudge root with a color that is the shade of your natural hair and tap your roots.. it will blend everything out and then you can tone it again and it will all blend perfectly :)
Dude DONT bleach it again! I’m a cosmetologist of 7 years, I’m impressed with the tone at the bottom good job! Now as far as the roots DO NOT BLEACH IT AGAIN!!!!!! Do a root shadow: take a level 7n and 7v equal parts add 10vol developer! Put it on your roots and comb down so it blends! Do not put it in a trash bag because you don’t want your light ends to touch your roots and get dark! (You can put conditioner on the ends to create a barrier to protect it from your roots if your worried) it will give you the look you want while being blended! Hope this helps! Good luck!!!!
I have a question since you obviously know what your talking about. So I have highlights and a light brown hair color and I want to be the blonde that Sarah was after only bleaching one time and toning but I don't know how developer and toner works. Any chance you could recommend the levels of each so I don't mess up?
jaime hairdresser here ! From what I can see from the video the first round she did her hair looks like a level 8 maybe a bit of 7. It’s hard to tell from the lighting. But to cancel out the brassy tones of the hair you would need a blue based toner. Not purple because it only cancels out yellow. Purple would be for like a level 9/10. Blue cancels out orange. You always want to tone with the level you are at. So if you are at a level 8 you want to tone with a level 8 as well. Hopefully that’s makes sense! :)
jaime I would do a 8 blue violet with a splash of 8 neutral and 5vol developer! Watch your toner with blue tones they can grab too much and over tone the hair! Adding the little bit of neutral will help so it doesn’t pull too ashy! Good luck!
It doesn’t really work like that. That could damage the hair further, and she could have breakage. Especially if she has some wine and forgets the developer again 😂

Licensed cosmetologist here: Go on Amazon: order 6n and 9v toner. Use with 10 developer. No higher. Tap all your roots with the 6n then comb it down so it blends well and isn’t too harsh of a line. Then go over your whole head with the 9v. This will correct any yellow hues left. Easy fix! I promise. Don’t use any developer higher than 10 for these. If amazon does have it, order the redken processing gel instead of a developer.
I know amazon has 9v, I couldn’t find 6n. Which is a light brown. You can get a toner in another brand. Do not use wella as it lifts and deposits, further damaging the integrity of your hair
Do not listen to the people endorsing t18. It is the harshest chemicals you can put on your hair and after multiple uses will turn ur hair to gum (personal experience before I went to cosmo school)

Hairdresser here: my honest advice would usually to be to go to a professional for a root smudge or a root drop to add the dark color back to the top. Given that hair salons are closed the the crisis (pray for our industry 😭😭😭) you could attempt to do one yourself. Pick a color that very closely matches your natural hair and paint it on your roots, about a half inch to an inch down. Then take a comb and comb that color to pull it down slightly and defuse the line. While that processes, put a conditioning treatment on the ends to meet the root color. This will further soften the line and provide some post bleach care for your hair. Hope this helps someone!! I work at Sally’s I got you girlie. So the timer isn’t going to take the your roots because they are too dark. T18 only works on level 9 to 10 and your roots are a 7 or 8. What you could do is color match your brown and apply it to the roots (only like an inch or two) then use a comb to blend it into the blonde. The other option would be to use a toner that works in a darker level. Demi dye specifically the one from Ion in 9NA can be used to tone your roots with a 20 or 10 developer. I would use a 20 as it will lift it a little more! Same thing blend it with a comb into the rest and it would look bomb. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Benn watching you for years I hope you see this and it can help you 😘🥰
Bella C you can always tone it later I’d say to even bleach it then go to the store to pick toner but I suggest demi permanent with 10 volume because it’s less damaging and just deposits the color that’s how we usually do it in the salon as it is don’t even advise bleaching at home but in these times don’t got a choice
Mason Mulder Color doesn’t lift color from what I’ve been taught in the time I’ve been doing hair lol also it’s pointless to use 20 when you’re causing damage on already bleached hair further and when it’s porous it just absorbs the color so 10 with a demi is the way to go just what I know and have been taught and to help you as a Sally’s worker and when she’s a 7 or 8 she needs a 7 or 8 level toner not a 9 you go with the level of where the hair is
lonelygirl I’ve never done a demi without it but if it works which idk how it would lol I recommend their demi line over the wella cause when I experiment I use it and have on myself in a pinch and it’s healthier for your hair

Using a darker toner on your scalp will help when your natural color started growing. it would be considered a shadow root! You also wouldn't have to deal with the brassiness that you have at the scalp! The tone of your ends is gorgeous though! If you are questioning doing the shadow root I would just wait for your natural color to grow in a bit and then go to a salon to get a partial foil just to blend it in again! Good luck! Hi! I’m a hairdresser. I would suggest doing a “root drag” to darken your base back up. At this point putting more lightener on your hair could be risky and toner will only tone on the level your hair is at, it won’t make it lighter. I'm a hairdresser and I recommend putting a level 7 toner at the roots. Like the 2-3inches closest to your head. And dont wrap in bag. After ten minutes comb it down a little further to blend down and process remaining time.

@@lovelilly4428 hey there. Shades EQ is deposit only so likely wont do much at all. Lifting with color is pretty tricky and even with an ash based tone will likely be brassy. You could lift with a permanent level 9 ash and 30 volume (I'm guessing you would need to lift 3 levels but I cant say forsure without seeing your hair.) Bleach is the most effective way of lightening but I dont recommend doing it to yourself, do you have anyone to help you apply?
Truthfully, look up how to do a “shadow root” get some toner close to your natural hair color and use that to create a root and then blend it into the t18 toner. You’ll be really icy after with the toner again but it will fade and you’re in quarantine so, fuck it, honestly.
Taylor Lawson do not use t18. I did for years before cosmetology school and found out why it would kill my hair. It’s not a toner. It is a deposit and lift. It will leave brassiness on any pigment that isn’t a 9-10 and will further damage the integrity of the hair! (Gummy-fy it)
I’m a licensed cosmetologist and I second getting a darker toner closer to your hair color to achieve a shadow root, you can always see if you can get help applying it as well! I would look at guy tangs videos because I find watching his application really helpful. I would say try a toner in maybe a level 7?? To start with (even tho this is likely lighter than your natural, I think you’re more like a 6 but it’s hard to say when I’m not seeing in natural lighting) and since the hair was just lightened, it should grab on to color pretty easily. I think your hair looks lovely tho and you did a great job! And using purple shampoo every so often will definitely help if your hair is starting to look brassy. I always used shimmer lights but it does have a bit of an old lady perfume smell and can dry your hair out a bit so do deep condition after, but it toned the best for me!

Wella T18 is PERMANENT color so it will open the cuticle more (aka more damage to the hair). She needs Demi permanent color that will only deposit color and not lift and fry the hair. Everyone thinks T18 is the answer but it’s really not in MOST cases

Not a stylist, I’ve just dyed my hair a million times. If you still want the dark root I would just go get a dye that’s close to your natural color and put that at the roots. I think it will be easier to get that to come out right rather than re-bleaching. That will probably just come out patchy.

The consistency on your bleach was probably what caused the splotchiness. You've gotta mix it up really well and it should be quite a smooth, almost foamy texture if that makes sense?

Honestly it turned out way better than I thought it would! Using a darker toner on your scalp will help when your natural color started growing. it would be considered a shadow root! You also wouldn't have to deal with the brassiness that you have at the scalp! The tone of your ends is gorgeous though! If you are questioning doing the shadow root I would just wait for your natural color to grow in a bit and then go to a salon to get a partial foil just to blend it in again! Good luck! I’m a hairstylist, my suggestion would be get a demi permanent color close to your natural root color (can’t really tell from looking at a video but probably a level 6????) and do a root smudge, there’s some tutorials on TH-cam! That will give you the rooted look you want. And I would tone the top with T18 again. It looks bomb good job girl!!! Love yaaaa 🥰

Hi! I’m a hairdresser. I would suggest doing a “root drag” to darken your base back up. At this point putting more lightener on your hair could be risky and toner will only tone on the level your hair is at, it won’t make it lighter. I suggest getting a medium brown hair color and doing the root drag, go watch ellebangs video called diy from blonde to balayage she gives a quick easy way to root drag at home :) hope this helps I will try to link her video th-cam.com/video/LTth0ZovY1c/w-d-xo.html

You should bleach just your roots one more time, but use a special brush for it. THEN tone your whole head, first roots than the rest ‼️‼️ and u have to use masks or coconut oil to make them healthy and shiny again.
when this whole quarantine thing is over u can go to a hair salon and they‘ll make ur roots dark again with a fade

I'm a hairdresser and I recommend putting a level 7 toner at the roots. Like the 2-3inches closest to your head. And dont wrap in bag. After ten minutes comb it down a little further to blend down and process remaining time.

@@lovelilly4428 hey there. Shades EQ is deposit only so likely wont do much at all. Lifting with color is pretty tricky and even with an ash based tone will likely be brassy. You could lift with a permanent level 9 ash and 30 volume (I'm guessing you would need to lift 3 levels but I cant say forsure without seeing your hair.) Bleach is the most effective way of lightening but I dont recommend doing it to yourself, do you have anyone to help you apply?

Dude I’ve been watching Sarah for years and it still catches me off guard when she legally drinks.
Truthfully, look up how to do a “shadow root” get some toner close to your natural hair color and use that to create a root and then blend it into the t18 toner. You’ll be really icy after with the toner again but it will fade and you’re in quarantine so, fuck it, honestly.
Taylor Lawson do not use t18. I did for years before cosmetology school and found out why it would kill my hair. It’s not a toner. It is a deposit and lift. It will leave brassiness on any pigment that isn’t a 9-10 and will further damage the integrity of the hair! (Gummy-fy it)
I’m a licensed cosmetologist and I second getting a darker toner closer to your hair color to achieve a shadow root, you can always see if you can get help applying it as well! I would look at guy tangs videos because I find watching his application really helpful. I would say try a toner in maybe a level 7?? To start with (even tho this is likely lighter than your natural, I think you’re more like a 6 but it’s hard to say when I’m not seeing in natural lighting) and since the hair was just lightened, it should grab on to color pretty easily. I think your hair looks lovely tho and you did a great job! And using purple shampoo every so often will definitely help if your hair is starting to look brassy. I always used shimmer lights but it does have a bit of an old lady perfume smell and can dry your hair out a bit so do deep condition after, but it toned the best for me!

Licensed cosmetologist here:
Go on Amazon: order Redken 6n and 9v toner. Use with 10 developer. No higher. Tap all your roots with the 6n then comb it down so it blends well and isn’t too harsh of a line. Then go over your whole head with the 9v. This will correct any yellow hues left.
Easy fix! I promise. Don’t use any developer higher than 10 for these. If amazon does have it, order the redken processing gel instead of a developer.
I know amazon has 9v, I couldn’t find 6n. Which is a light brown. You can get a toner in another brand. Do not use wella as it lifts and deposits, further damaging the integrity of your hair
Do not listen to the people endorsing t18. It is the harshest chemicals you can put on your hair and after multiple uses will turn ur hair to gum (personal experience before I went to cosmo school) (reposting here since this is the forum)
Wella T18 is PERMANENT color so it will open the cuticle more (aka more damage to the hair). She needs Demi permanent color that will only deposit color and not lift and fry the hair. Everyone thinks T18 is the answer but it’s really not in MOST cases
Ahhh, I am also a license cosmetologist, but its been a LONG time since I touched any Sally's color. I had no idea it was a PERMANENT toner! Eesh. Never even thought permanent "toner" was a thing. Thank you for clarifying. Hopefully she can find something similar at Sally's that will be a bit gentler for the blend.

Not a stylist, I’ve just dyed my hair a million times. If you still want the dark root I would just go get a dye that’s close to your natural color and put that at the roots. I think it will be easier to get that to come out right rather than re-bleaching. That will probably just come out patchy.
