    Sonia, for the last 9 years I have had multiple trips each year, flying here and there between 1 to 3 times every year and I thought I was an experienced traveler. Experienced yes, but I am still finding useful tips from your youtube videos. Keep up the good work.

    A note about bringing medication with you on trips: countries have different laws and rules about what you can and cannot bring into the country. For example, I think Japan has a rule that you can only bring 1-3 months of prescription medication into the country. If you buy a year's worth and try to bring it in, it could be confiscated you will have wasted your money.
    Also if you're REALLY attached to certain comforts from home, like GOOD deodorant or tampons, I suggest bringing enough of those things to last your stay or asking your mom to ship you some! A lot of countries don't necessarily have those things, at least in the same quality that we're used to.
    Do your research before you pack.

    HI,
    I am going to London for a month for summer school. Which means night outs and travelling. I have seen you videos on London, they are amazing. It gets my super excited.
    My packing plan is all mixed up from tourist shoes and bags, to clothes and makeup.
    Lots of summer dresses to night outs.
    Thank you :)

    May I chime in? (I studied abroad for 5 months) & ended up taking some larger toiletries (shampoo, face wash, etc) with me and was so glad I did! Depending on where you go you might not have access to what you want. If you are picky with those kinds of things (like myself) than you might want to consider packing them away (with lots of tape & inside baggies!) in your check in. But I agree with the hair tools! Thanks for another great vid :)

    I'm on a 5-week study abroad program in Chicoutimi, Québec right now so I wish this came out two weeks ago haha. But I *did* pack light by watching all of your other videos. I managed to fit everything in a carry-on suitcase and my backpack. My apartment ended up being on the top floor of our residence building and there's only stairs... Haha thanks for all of your awesome tips Sonia :)

    Depending on which country you go to, you can also find a local amazon equivalent. For example, G-market in South Korea is an amazing, cheap online store for toiletries, towels, cereal, everything. With local services, you can even get cheap same day delivery.

    As a pharmacy tech, I have a quick tip about taking prescription medication, mostly if you are from the US: request vacation refills ahead of time. Give the pharmacies, insurance, and doctor's at least a month in advance to work on these refills. Most insurances will only pay for certain amounts of medication monthly. If your insurance policy allows, they can do what they call a vacation refill, where they fill more than one months worth in advance, but these may need a doctors authorization and many days for them to allow a pharmacy to fill. If you are carrying temperature sensitive medication, call the manufacturers for travel information. Many medication manufacturers carry this information that may not be on websites. And don't just follow any website. The manufacturers will have the most recent information. You may also need manufacturer and doctor guidance if you cannot get a vacation refill done, and on how to go about getting medication in other countries or sending it to oneself. The last thing you want is expensive medication getting detained at customs for days when you send it to yourself. Get a doctor's letter explaining any medication you may be taking with you. Check country specific requirements and with TSA on all prescription medication. Some countries restrict the amount you can bring in, and some countries may require that you carry more than a doctor's letter, or even how you can carry it.

      @nataliemdesouza 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm kind of in the same situation... I'm thinking of bringing my puffy northface parka, but I think I'm going to put it in a big ziplock bag and compress the air out!

    • @Lidya-hx8rp
      @Lidya-hx8rp 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Natalie Marie I personally never used one of those bags and have heard mixed reviews. If you have them around go ahead and try, but before you go out and buy one, you may want to think about if it's worth it. I had a huge east pack suitcase bag thing (90L) and I could just roll and stuff all my things, but if you have a structured suitcase maybe it's worth trying the compression bags.

    • @nataliemdesouza

    Hi Sonia! I was offered an amazing opportunity this summer to study abroad for a few weeks in France. I don't know any French, being this is a language school I would be attending, but still I am very excited (and hopeful that I can go)! Granted, France was not my first choice (no offense to anyone, please) I need some advice. The only reason I didn't choose France first, was because I wasn't originally signing up for a language school. I was originally going to sign up for a homestay in Ireland, New Zealand, UK, etc.--a English speaking country. I know a little bit of Spanish (2 years worth), but it has been awhile for me, and I know English (obviously) and Sign Language pretty well. I will be studying the language when I get there, but I am nervous for whoever my host family will be (if I get to do this opportunity). What I mean is, I was told they will speak both English and French, but French aren't always open it seems to speaking nothing more than their native tongue. How do you learn you're languages so fluently and quickly? Do you have any suggestions for me? Thank you for your time, and I hope this makes sense, and you can help me!

    • @AfroBolshevik

      There are many apps you can use to learn French, my favourite two are Memrise and Hellotalk. Memrise is you pivking the French level you want to speak at your own pace and Hellotalk lets you talk to actual French people and make friends with them helping you in the French and you help in English, have a great time and i hope this helps :)

    Another note on taking toiletries: When I move back to France, I will be packing a full size shampoo and conditioner in my checked bag. QUELLE HORREUR! Well let me tell you why - shampoo and conditioner are FREAKING EXPENSIVE, especially in Paris. Also, the weight that you used up packing them when you moved? Now that you've used them up, that space in your luggage is free for souvenirs galore.
