It doesn't need to be neglect. Cats that go outside usually if they are sick they prefer to die away from their loved ones. I'm not trying to shame them or paint them as evil people, hoarding is a mental illness and I do believe that they, especially him genuinely cared for and loved the cat in his own warped way, but these are the facts. Your illness ultimately led to the cat's demise and it's about time you seek help

Exactly. Her normal feels fine to her, so it’s so hard to believe that it’s not fine for another living thing. This is common in so many hoarding cases, and it’s so sad because they are emotionally so attached to these animals and genuinely don’t understand or accept their role.

I’ve had cats run away when they got close to death you give up looking especially if the cat had access to outdoors because you know if you can’t find them they ran away but my house was never so messy that if I couldn’t find the cat I knew it wasn’t lost under trash or clutter I knew it ran away outside and died where it wanted to
“The hardest moment was when we found Rat Cat. She wasn’t even our cat she was our child.” No she wasn’t. You were more worried that people would think you were an animal hoarder than you were that your cat was dead. You probably weren’t even planning on taking her to the vet. If she was your baby she wouldn’t have been dead behind a shelf for two years.
They are a disgrace. That poor little kitty died and was left to rot in that filth, my cat died at 19 as well but he died in my mums arms surrounded by the ones who loved him. I would not be able to live with myself if this happened.

My cat went “missing” and i frantically searched everywhere ( I thought he got outside) walked my entire neighborhood, searched my house like cray, ended up finding him sleeping in a cabinet in a pot... I can’t even with that
My cat had managed to close herself inside a closet. She's an indoor cat, we have a lot of coyotes in my area, so we were tearing the house to pieces when we heard banging and sad meows from the closet. We never open the thing, I don't know how she got in there, but she was safe and sound. Mom gave her treats for "emotional distress"
Omg I feel your fear. I’ve had this happen with my cat last month. I searched high and low around my neighbourhood and eventually found him under my downstairs neighbour’s bed.
same here. we thought my cat got out the house and i went ballistic. i went out looking for him, my brother and i were crying, i kept circling my block, etc but turns out he just got stuck in a closet upstairs :)
Nah, when she was explaining she said there wasn’t a smell. But like how bad can your house ALREADY smell to the point where you can’t smell a rotting animal
She cared more about people’s perception of the fact they had a dead cat in her house for two years with no knowledge of it then she cared about the fact that her cat was dead. Disgusting human. The husband was literally the opposite of his wife, he cared more about the cat. And I know that it was animal neglect keeping that cat in those conditions, but that man really felt remorse and pain and shame for how that cat had to pass away.
It could be both. The cat was very old and had been gone for 2 years. They probably assumed it was dead years ago but just didn't find the body because of all the stuff. Plenty of time to accept it. She was crying when they had the funeral for it.
You're right. It is really sad. I hope he knows that animals do tend to hide when they are ready to pass. They do not want to be found, they like to be in peace. I think it helped him see the far reaching consequences of seemingly innocuous vices (like too much clutter). Untouched spaces are a sign of a mental block, something we have to regularly maintain.
you know, i've noticed a strange trend with the way male/female hoarders behave when they see what they are doing from a different perspective. usually the man snaps out of it while the female just keeps denying. at least that's the way it seems portrayed on these shows.

This situation is awful. Poor cat. I hope they got the help they needed. Just as a note, many cats who are very sick or injured will purposely hide somewhere to die. I suspect their cat sensed that it was dying, and like many other cats do, went to find a small hole to die in. The cat also seemed like it was mummified rather than rotting, so that might also contribute to less of a smell once it died.
Soimosi Ioana there’s some interesting reasons why spontaneous mummification might occur. (This might not be why it’s happened here as none of us know the full details. I’m also not someone who studies this so I’m happy to defer to other experts; this is just my own observation). A lot of the time mummification occurs when the body loses moisture rapidly, faster than the enzymes that break down a body can work. Factors that might contribute to this sudden loss of moisture might be: extreme temperature, very dry environments, or extreme pH levels in the environment. I can’t guess why the cat mummified in this case, but the extreme filth of the house must have contributed somehow. Again, anyone who knows better can add something if I’m wrong!
Max Allen Yes, you are right, and we can both be right. As I mentioned earlier, cats will also hide too if they are injured or sick, choosing to die somewhere quiet and away from their owners. There are also cats that won’t do this, preferring to be with their owners, like you said. Both scenarios exist, and I was theorising that this cat might be one of the ones that choose to hide to die, rather than seek out company.

When I was younger, I went on vacation and my hamster died 5 days before I got back. She had only been dead FIVE DAYS, and when I opened my bedroom door for the first time when I got home the smell was UBEARABLE. Her saying ‘there was no smell’ just makes me think how disgusting the house must usually smell for her to not notice, if she wasn’t lying.
So you left your hamster to fend for itself while you were on vacation, and it was dead a whole 5 days in a closed bedroom with no one checking on it? Who was feeding it while you where away?

Literally currently during that. Not because of this but because I'm an 18 year old living alone in New York.... At least I'll hopefully NEVER end up like this.

Her very first words after finding the deceased cat: "Okay, let me explain"
Horders: Finds dead cat
Owner:"it was not neglect. We searched for her, it didn't smell"
Christian cruz the owner is the horder though
"I'm sorry"
"No I'm the one who's sorry"
*Cuts to cat being thrown in bag*
Lmao
I at least give the cat a last restingplace in my yard
They buried her.
Well that's what you do, put them in a plastic bag or a box or something before you bury them

How do you not smell a *dead* cat for 2 years?
they lived in literal trash don't think that smell threw them off at that point
This situation is awful. Poor cat. I hope they got the help they needed.
Just as a note, many cats who are very sick or injured will purposely hide somewhere to die. I suspect their cat sensed that it was dying, and like many other cats do, went to find a small hole to die in. The cat also seemed like it was mummified rather than rotting, so that might also contribute to less of a smell once it died.
Any reason why would it not rot in that filthy house?
That’s not true. A lot of cats wail to call their owners when they know they’re gonna die, and proceed to die peacefully surrounded by people
Soimosi Ioana there’s some interesting reasons why spontaneous mummification might occur.
@@generic1412 Interesting,I just tought that the house would be moldy, but you may be right,if it was a dry place. Can I ask if you know of some side effects of dry air on nasal tissue. My house is also dry in the winter, exactly when my nose gets dry, inflamed and I cannot breathe properly.I know its not allergy,so may it be because of the dry air?
When the husband found the cat I almost started to cry because i know he was actually regretful and devastated. I don’t believe the wife felt any responsibility. A terrible shame.
My heart goes out to all the people who clean up these hoarders houses
I’d be sterilizing myself before going back into my own home-even my car when leaving.

Youre talking abt a lady that has a pile of dried dog shit upstairs. In my opinion, both of these houses are equally bad. They both have disgusting and biological hazards roaming inside.
She’s a narcissist. She only cares about her self. If she can’t care about a cat , then how the hell she going to care about a human. That man has been gaslighted and abused by her for years. He’s dead behind the eyes. Bless his heart.
You have absolutely no idea what narcissist means.
I feel for the husband. As a cat owner I can only imagine how it would feel to loose a cat because of neglect
That isn’t a dead cat. That thing is mummified.
Omg this is so sad you wouldn't think that these people were that dirty
People who can't take care of their animals shouldn't ever have one.. Poor cat 😭
It’s so sad you can tell the husband truly loved that cat. The wife on the other hand...😒 she wasn’t shocked at all by the discovery of their deceased pet, she immediately became defensive, as if she already knew.

How did they not smell a decaying animal in their LIVING Room??
Two words: nose blind
Smells pretty good.
Also are they deadass burying the plastic bag too wtf
It looked more mummified then decayed or rotten also it already smelled pretty bad so
There was a dead cat behind the dish water in our old apartment and WHEW the smell was terrible
"she wasn't a cat, she was our child."
Ok, so you would let your child die and rot behind a drawer for two years?
"would it be disrespectful to put her in the trash?"
