- The Cole and Marmalade team rescues over 40 cats and kittens from a hoarding situation in Northern Illinois. We'll never know the full story, but the landlord said these cats had been abandoned by their owner 8 months ago … We feel that this situation had been going on for much longer, I'm just glad we were notified and managed to pull off this rescue and get the cats and kittens help!

I adopted my black cat last summer and he came from a hoarder situation 23 cats. They had to rescue all of them because the owners did not take care of them, they didn’t feed them, give them water, and they didn’t even bathe them when they had fleas all around them. I’m just glad that my cat Yarrow is safe with me now

Chesei Valca , I have 2 ferals for 3 years now. The first 6 months I never saw them. The only way I knew they were alive was the litter box and food bowls. They are still skittish, but the female wants to be everywhere I am. They are super loving now! Yay.

Your comment reminded me of a show. Not sure it was Buried Alive or Hoarders, but there was this one episode that broke my heart. If I remember, the owners of the house claimed she was missing a couple of cats and thought they'd escaped. Unfortunately, while cleaning, they found the bodies of the missing poor cats...
It is very sad that the cats are so desperate that they jump against mirrors, doors and walls.
Not desperate but terrified. You cannot corner a cat that doesn’t know you and expect anything else.

im in tears. the conditions their living in is so bad. their so covered in fleas, some looked like they were bleeding. why are people so mean to animals? they dont have minds like humans have. they do nothing wrong and most of the time they live shorter than humans, so humans shoukd make the life they have filled with joy-not despair. i hope they get owners that are caring.

For anybody wondering, when these professionals grab the cats by the back of the neck, the cats feel no pain.
Its only appropriate handling for kittens.
Being held by the scruff is only suitable for SMALL KITTENS as their body weight is low enough for it to be comfortable. For adults it can be very painful, BUT in situations like thing you don’t have a choice.

Seeing the fleas crawling in their für was both heartbreaking and sickening ...
Fleas are the worst. My cats George and Douglas (RIP to both of them; 1 cancer, 1 old age) ended up getting a really bad case of them from our dog going outside and bringing them in (they were both indoor cats) back in 2011 and it took 6 freaking months to totally eradicate the things from my house despite the fact that my family cleaned and vacuumed constantly and the cats were treated monthly and brushed out daily. It was an awful time and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

You know, at the risk of judgement from you, I'll tell you - I suffer from severe depression and PTSD. I first adopted my cat because a therapist recommended it and I felt so much better. I really wanted to get another cat, maybe 2, and I was even looking at free kittens around the area. It took some talking to by therapist and case workers for me to realize that living in a 1 bedroom apartment I shouldn't get more cats. And that just because 1 cat makes you feel better doesn't mean more will necessarily do the same.
When my depression is really bad, I have to schedule litter box cleaning because otherwise I won't do it. And I've forgotten to feed her because I was too depressed to get out of bed; fortunately my dear is very persistent and won't allow a missed meal.
The point of this diatribe is I hate to see such judgmental comments, and I encourage a bit more compassion from you and pineapple because you both are severely lacking.

I'm glad you can put your cat first, and that's wonderful, but you can't speak for every person with depression. And you didn't specify on your severity because that plays a factor too - have you ever attempted suicide? How many times? Ever been hospitalized? How many times? My point is pretty much everyone can say "I've been depressed" but few actually know what the true burden of depression is. It's a living hell.
And before you attack me for not taking care of my cat : I'm well medicated now and not in a depressive episode, and when I am I have to schedule litter box cleaning and someone to check in on me multiple times per week, plus someone to take care of my cat if I end up in the hospital.

I sure hope the cats found new home :'( If the cats won't get new homes, they will be killed. Usually kittens will go, but grown up cats usually end up being killed, because shelters need more space + cannot afford to keep the cats there forever.

I love that the cat trappers still treat the felines as living beings. They're as gentle as possible, and try to reassure the cats that it'll be okay. These are wonderful people with wonderful intentions.

I had a "feral" foster here for a bit. She came from a situation similar to this. She was afraid of ALL of us and never adjusted. She acted like she had been born and raised outside with no human contact at all. She was adopted about 2 months ago by a friend of ours with no other animals and she's thriving now. Neglect is almost worse than abuse in some cases. It's so so sad.

animal hoarders don’t mean to harm their animals but end up doing so with inadequate space and nasty conditions, these people don’t deserve death but need to be penalized accordingly. this hurts my heart so much but these people are amazing.
They need professional help and to live in a monitored flat
This does not happen in a short time. The person who did this needs to be in the exact bad conditions that these cats were in for a long time, and see how they like it. That should be their punishment. If they are hoarders, then they should not have gotten even one cat.
The person here was an old woman who had already died, and had been unwillingly given many cats by their family before she passed. There wasn’t much decision making here, it’s an unfortunate situation.

My sister rescued a breeder dachshund whos genes were champion but whose personality was so neurotic due to having spend his entire life in a tiny cage being thrown bitches in heat left and right.OK, there are those of you who might say COOL!!! but this poor doggie was never socialized, never played with {he didnt know what toys were for}never walked, never cuddled. When my sister brought him home he stayed under the bed for a month. When he did start to warm up all he wanted was to be held like a baby in her arms for hours at a time and never left her side.It worked out special, really, as she had gotten the dog after her husband died of a long tragic bout of Alzheimers, and she deparately wanted someone to need her.Needless to say doggie has a pretty good life now{and plenty of toys!!}
Fluffpup 567 - The average animal hoarder is an elderly woman who has either been abandoned by her family, or has no family left. On top of the hoarding disorder, they often have dementia or other mental illnesses. They don't really grasp they are harming the animals.
Your nasty, vindictive attitude solves absolutely nothing. Being sad for these poor cats does not mean you need to equate animal hoarding disorders to conscious and deliberate abuse. It is not the same thing.

I was going through pretty bad depression, I still am, and my room was getting to be at hoarding levels. There were bugs, bed bugs, trash everywhere, no room to walk on, my bed had a little section I kept clean to sleep and the rest of my bed was covered with clothes. I found a little kitty two weeks ago and I got very determined to clean my room after 2 years of never being successful at cleaning it. It’s not perfect but I cleared up my floor, my bed and my closet. There is still a bit of a mess but it is much much cleaner.
I promise my cat will never live in conditions like the ones I lived in. I still get depressed, cry in the middle of the night due to ptsd from sexual assault and other things, but my kitty made me clean my room.
You are amazing and strong! Don't forget that 😊
It's often easier to do things for someone else than for oneself. So do things to make your kitty live a really good life and you too will feel better. 🤗🤗🤗
Experimenting Me thanks!!! It’s very hard though, I am falling into that emptiness feeling again but I have to keep pushing. There is a pile of clothes on my bed that builds up but I have to force myself to pick it up, even if it’s the only chore I do that day. He is growing so fast and is so hyper but I love him so much.

Have you seen a doctor for it? Medication? Or changed your diet a bit to see if that would help? (Helped me a lot, that's why I'm asking about the food.) 🐈🐾

First of all, if you would take a moment to read up on something you're trying so hard to preach before coming at me in such a seemingly passionate way, you would know that this rescue is opening their own NO KILL shelter. I don't have to explain that part, right? At least now they have a chance at a comfortable life, even if it does take time to find them a forever home. My god, watching these poor babies live with the disgusting bugs crawling all over them, the diseases they must have, the pain they must be in... it is unacceptable. This is absolutely no way for a creature to live. These people wouldn't work this hard to save them and give them the care and medical attention they needed only to dump them off at a shelter. Do not diminish the incredible thing these wonderful people have done with your negativity and nonsense.

It was a horrible sight and I felt bad for the poor kitties being so scared and stressed, but at the same time it was really cool to see the rescue and knowing it was doing a good thing.
