The way he simply turned raised my anxiety
The way he went back to each room, a subtle change every so often

    • @RandomInternetStranger
      @RandomInternetStranger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +81

It's the subtleties and the fact that you're paying attention to everything due to the ever building fear, I believe. If everything creates fear, then it slowly compounds, as opposed to a sharp spike with something like a jumpscare. When there's no time to let down fear, and you're expecting more, it's a lot more scary than normal.
In other words, it's a mix of anticipation and never letting fear dissipate or go down, so it always builds and multiplies itself around every corner.

  • @Chom-Chom

Whoever made this house walk through is an absolute genius. I hated every second of it. The fact that the subtitles and even the rooms kept repeating made me think this was some sort of purgatory or hell. The dilapidation and grime being caked on everything. The frames of the walls giving off rusty/bloody appearance, reminding me of Silent Hill shit. The fact that you can't even sometimes see 3 feet in front and that anything could be anything. And subtle undertones that any red thing could either be cloth or viscera. The straight up suffocating rooms.
Then we go to the changes later in the video... fucking hell that grandma and grandpa moments were top tier, grandma was more subtle and its not really something that the camera focuses on and you just NOTICE it with the "Grandmother is here." And finally the last phase, really drives home the point that this is some sort of hell. And we see that the grandchild is actually dead (this is what I saw atleast), implying this is years and years after they all died in the typhoon and that *something* else is recording.
Conclusion: FUCKING SCARY, I LOVE IT BUT ALSO HATE IT

The way it ensnares you, looping you through the painful thoughts over and over and over, always getting worse and worse and worse until finally you realize you have to just sleep, that you can't keep trying to push further down to see the light at the end, that you just have to try and ignore the pain until it runs it's course in the background because otherwise it'll completely consume you... fuck, man

I recently remembered this video and how masterful it creates the atmosphere of steady decay and almost a continuous spiral deeper into death. You're not being told what happened, because the narrator themselves can't fully make sense of it. It must be an awful experience, to be stuck in your destroyed home, reliving the terror of the typhoon over and over while death - your family's, yours - surrounds you and traps you.

I haven't scrolled through the years of comments, but I feel not enough attention is brought to the hair. The more I watch this video the more times it appears. It's very unsettling, it feels like something else is ligering around the home with the narrator and following them, maybe even something besides the grandparents. Legitimately great work, so glad I was introduced to it by two weirdos on some Creepy Cast.

This is the kind of horror that I love. It lures you in, youre unsettled but it doesn't feel forced. I didn't even realize where it was going until it got there. There aren't any cheap jumpscares, and it makes you feel true fear and uncertainness of what's coming next. Kudos for the most legit horror video ive seen in a while.

Can we talk about the sound design in this? The ambient sound is so good, and there's a few moments where a particularly gruesome image is accompanied by a particularly loud creak which sounds natural but does a great job of highlighting the scariness.

All of the thought, detail, and time that you put into these works of art, absolutely beautifully done! Horror that has been created by hand has an irreplaceable value to it. Although people have tried to replicate it with computers it will never compare to the passion and human emotion that comes from creating something with your bare hands. I hope from the bottom of my heart you have not stopped creating. I could rewatch your videos on repeat and point out something new and special every time. Thankyou for puting your heart and mind into these peices i hope i can see more work from you some day in the future. Thankyou!

“There is a TYPHOON in Japan”
Define “Typhoon”: A tropical storm in the region of the Indian or west pacific oceans.
The narrator references that the wind woke them up.
They go through this home, which looks like it has been hit by a terrible disaster, and been left to rot.
And as they go, it gets worse. More distorted, with each repeat, eventually they come to a room, and say “Grandmother is here” showing a strange rendition of what seems to be a person.
The repeat this for “grandfather” who is in the bath.
The narrator eventually returns to their room.
It seems fairly clear to me, and most people who have seen it.
In August 2016, a Typhoon hit Japan. Typhoon Mindulle.
The video was posted in October, 2016.
Another interesting fact, Typhoon Mindulle had 3, Three, casualties.
There are three characters in this art piece by PiroPito.
And that is likely no coincidence.
This house tour is purgatory. A spirit walking through their home after the storm, where they and their family died. After the have shown us their home, the place they lived, the place they cherished, they return to their bed, and go to sleep, one final time.

They also listen to sutra. Which is common in Buddhist and Hindu religions of important verses. Meaning he probably lives in a Buddhist family, which is a prominent religion in Japan. If he did pass on, he had died, and as Buddhists believe if those deceased are not given a proper burial, they will wander the place of their death as spirits for all eternity. This is just so crazy to sit through. We walk down these seemingly endless hallways with constantly changing environments and the silence is practically deafening with the only actual sounds in this entire video are connected to the home. It’s rare to find suspenseful horror that can utilize simple sounds in a environment to its advantage and not have to rely on jump scares, loud music scores or even a monster to be considered horrifying to an audience. It’s just so haunting to think about.

I think it's more about conveying the feeling of being trapped by the repetition. Notice how the house gets more and more rotten each iteration. Like he/she has been doing this over and over for thousands, millions of times. He doesn't go into a room unless the seal has rotted off like with grandma's room and the doll room. God it got me good, like silent hills but subtler and better, no offense Kojima, del Toro and Itou Junji

    • @edwardnashton553
      @edwardnashton553 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@excitableboy7031 yeah, you can see the silent hill vibe of the environment rotting away and the loop from Silent hill PT, but I like to think that there's many loops that we haven't seen, like he walks trough the house so many times he forgets to record, that's why he repeats himself so many times, maybe when he eventually snaps after crossing the sliding door, the house returns to normal only to slowly rot away again and again, always being a "fresh" experience for him

It feels like a spiral of grief with the obsessive repetition (and distortion) of lines and memories, always repeating the cycle while the grief looms over you constantly. Very chilling.

Bro its easy you just turn left down the hallway until you reach a hallway then if you look left from there you should see a hallway. Now this one is pretty long but keep moving down the hallway and you’ll eventually reach a hallway. Pay no mind to the sutra and keep going down the hallway and you should eventually reach the hallway.

Since I can’t see anyone doing theory crafting, I’m gonna take a gander:
The main character ‘wakes up’ due to the storm, then passes through the sliding door behind his family altar to enter the looping section of the house. I believe this symbolises that the main character has passed away, most likely during the storm, and is now making the slow descent to join his grandmother and grandfather. The subtitles are surface level observations, echoes of his mind in life.
I’m not sure what the slow decay of the house signifies, but judging by the fleshy appearance it takes on alongside the sealed rooms and rotted dolls (which I believe are protective, but am not versed enough on Japanese traditions to say), I believe it signifies that the house itself could be malicious, and is somehow consuming the spirits of those that lie within, perhaps rendered as much a ghost by the destruction of the storm as the living inhabitants. Most likely the sleep at the end signifies the main character’s spirit falling to the same state as his grandparents.
All in all, awesome video, awesome work. Look forward to seeing more!

Random thought but it's reminding me of a toxic hikikomori. Unchanging and too used to going about their sheltered life that they are unaware (in a way) of their home being...rotten.
