Arnold Palmer at US Open in 1966. Lost a seven stroke lead, with 9 holes left. That was a serious collapse.
Rory was in a zone and then missed a putt and he couldn't get the mojo back. Bryson grinded all the way in focus. It is mental discipline and dealing with adversity. Wow! It was a test of character.

You don’t realize how well Bryson played. Didnt do anything with his driver the last round and actually got himself repeatedly in trouble, but still shot 1 under par.

The "long" bunker shot has always been considered the toughest shot in golf especially by professionals... Shane Ryan should know that...
Bryson himself said in one of his recent interviews before the US Open that the most difficult shot for him is a 60 yard bunker shot.
It’s amazing that he played essentially the best golf of his life at the right time. Storybook type stuff, we’ll be talking about this Open 25 years from now…
Rory needs a professional caddy, not a best mate on the bag. His stubbornness and inability to take advice is hampering his quest for a major.
Nothing, literally nothing is like the collapse of Van de Velde
Everyone used a 8 iron the par 3 but Rory hit 7 iron and went way over the green when he just needed to par in….fire your caddy Rory and start fresh
He was hitting over the greens all day. I think because historically he has trouble when he hits short, he spins the ball back off the front of the green.
So I think he was gambling on playing deeper into the greens despite the danger of hitting over.
And agree, way too much club for him there.
He choked. Simple as that.
Boxers after slagging each other off for weeks in the build up and then punching ten bells out of each other for 36 minutes show respect after the last bell, Rory let himself down.

You learn about a person in defeat. Bryson, losing to Xander on the last hole, congratulating him and doing press. Rory, losing to Bryson on the last hole, skips out 6 minutes later without congratulating Bryson or doing press.
Speiths collapse at the masters was pretty bad...he had a 6 shot lead if i remember
Rory was ontrack to shoot 66, he birdies 3 of 4 to begin his backside; then bogues 3 of 4 to end his backside, the guy choked the bit in a very big way. This will set rory back another decade.

Bryson played his worse round to beat a choking Royster; should have been a playoff at worst unless you choke on your final hole.
It was always Bryson to lose rather than Rory. Bryson was ahead of Rory for most of the tournament. Rory was only ahead for a few holes on the last day, got a head of Bryson by 2 shots for couple holes when Bryson missed some putts plus wayward drives with his replacement driver then Bryson grinded is way back. Remember too Bryson had to replace his driver head in the last round is very important point that Rory didn't have issue with. Obviously those missed but difficult putts by Rory are just part of the game. Greens were very tough so green reading was so important.
now now this is a bit harsh... bryson missed 1 2 footer and rory missed 2...

I thought it was common knowledge to show good sportsmanship even in losing. Sheesh. A win is not guaranteed. You know that going in to any tournament. Conduct yourself accordingly.

I’m not a fan of Rory for many reasons but the guy did best everyone in the field except one guy. I guess that doesn’t count for anything right? Im more concerned about his post tournament etiquette and manners than him “choking”. That’s what he really needs to work on. Rory is one of those guys that never grew up for some reason. He still acts like a boy.
Rory needs a sit down with the greatest Choker in golf history, Norman, well according to Normans haters. He may get some very good advice on playing golf, a worst, or a few hundred-million-dollar LIV golf contract at best, win, win situation.
Guy has no class and even less grace, his behaviour post tournament just another example.
It was nowhere near as bad as Spieth at the Masters. That putt on eighteen for Rory was tough, the big mistake was chipping past the hole
Rory is improving his character and comments towards others. I feel that Rory is suffering from PGAT major event burn out. The PGAT fans were cheering against Rory and for LIV player BD - by chanting USA - USA. Don’t see Rory ever winning unless - Rory leaves the PGAT and plays just for the love of the game in Europe. The people in Europe love and support Rory - he needs that to recover enough to win at least one more major. Rory will never be or be loved as American. Rory belongs in Europe promoting International Golfers & not the PGAT Executives. 😀
He was 3 behind at the start. And for that round he outplayed Bryson just a few mental errors on 15,16,18. Otherwise Rory has his 5th major. And yes it’s past overdue for a pro caddy instead of your best pal. Come on Rory wake up

Rory hasn’t carried anything on his back, he’s tried to be the official spokesperson for the tour. He created a lot of tension between much more prominent players on tour than him, and he needs to shut up and golf his ball.

The biggest indicator of Rory's ability - or inability - to rise to the occasion and win big tournaments is being able to face down your demons after the tourney. Not talking to the press reveals a missing steely determination or even lack of maturity; my opinion (a rory fan).

Silly. Not even close to choking and I am not a Rory fan. He had a great round on Sunday and if you take out a couple of missed puts and a great performance by Bryson we have a completely different headline.

How is it a collapse. He had the lead for a millisecond because Bryson dropped a shot. Rory didn’t collapse. It was a tough course. Everyone made bogies. Bryson just made a couple less.

I would love to see how many people could make that putt. The ball started left and broke 6+ inches from that short distance. Missed putt yes but didn't choke.
Told my wife he cant putt. Then he sinks 3 long birdies. Then he can't putt! Missing a 2.5' foot putt after Bryson bogies is like missing an extra point to win the SB. It's worse than the Frenchman's choke at the British open with a 3 shot lead with one hole to play! Will be incredibly hard for him to win another major.
His sportsmanship is awful as Bryson is a class act signing a young man's hat whose in a wheelchair during the round!
I think it was Rory’s worst possible scenario, he got carried away being the uspga spokesman against liv, seemingly got stitched up by the people running it when they changed their minds and considered a sort of merge, now he drops 3 shots in the last 4 and loses to Bryson a liv player. A monumental collapse. You couldn’t have wrote it worse.

The big difference was Chambeau had incredible luck in multiple favorable lies in the ridiculous pot luck waste area. McIlroy on the rare occasion he found his ball in the waste area had a poor lie. Therein lies the difference. Wonder if Chambeau would've interacted with the crowd if he wasn't in contention ? Chambeau also very noticeably failed to acknowledge McIlroy in his immediate post match acceptance speech
Come on, he missed a couple of putts. One of which was more difficult than you two scrubs can imagine. Calling his performance a collapse is totally wrong. Did he fail to win? Clearly.
