  • Let's take a look into the history of Rory's putting style and see how it might have affected his last round. We are not looking through a critical lens as he is amazing player with a great history of success and will bounce back from two short missed putts I am sure. You will learn how his stroke works and a few putting drills to help your own stroke. #putting #golf #golfcoaching #golftips #jy #usopengolf #Rory #rorymcilroy

Overall, I thought Rory’s putting was phenomenal at the US Open. What happened imo was that his approach shots just put him under too much stress. He was missing greens, chipping as good as I’ve ever seen but eventually you’re just not always going to get up and down with greens that were getting scorched and bumpy from wear and tear.
    Was devastated for him.

Just before putting - Rory might have thought to himself “I should have taken the $700 Million from LIV”. It was hard on Rory to have the PGAT fans chanting against him - USA/USA. Putting is where majors are won or lost. Hope Rory plays in Europe for 3 to 5 years where he is well supported and he can just play for the love of the game. 😀 If he never wins another major - he still has the 4 he already won.

He was given adequate putting instruction by Dave Stockton years ago.
He continues to listen to his European counterparts than what Dave taught him. Unlike Sandy Lyle & Seve Ballesteros implementing what they were taught by Jimmy Ballard to win their majors.
When RM makes putts consistently; he:
    1. Never let's the putter head pass the endcap of the grip through out the stroke. He ROLLS the ball.
When he lets the putter head pass the grip, he decelerate off line. Means his right hand takes over the stroke instead of his left hand throughout the whole stroke.
    2. His follow-through does not go beyond his lead foot & finishes no more than 2 cm off the ground with the putterhead facing the intended target line.
He was given the keys to the kingdom & refuses to use them.
During DS's early 1970s career, he had 960 consecutive putts without a 3 putt.

Dave Stockton taught Rory the block putt method, I think it's hurt him in the big moments.

Surely for smaller putts,Rory would simply change his stroke to a straight back and through ? He’s fine on longer putts as we all know….

Its been a decade of empathy for Rory; you bogey 3 of the last 4, and birdie 3 of the first 4 on the back 9, the guy is an idiot. This much we know.

Absolutely correct. He was however making everything in sight up to the last few holes with the same stroke.

Great putting instruction video. The screenshot of the putter hitting the ball high looks familiar.... ;)

Rory gets his share of putts,4 majors plus. Most golfers get a bit jumpy on the four footers.
