When i played this i was very much reminded of this one idea where mods are video game fanfiction. it makes a lot of sense, its passionate people using per-existing pieces, plus small amounts of original stuff to make stories(or in the case of games, gameplay) of wildly varying quality. this mod really made me think of that a lot while playing.
What im saying is this mod feel like an AU.
