@@user-vs3gc4cn3t Nope, they become more aggro, and worse yet, may lineage into stronger variants. Variants like the Red lizard or the Leapzard. The only thing that can really negatively impact a region's population is if you are stupid aggro on killing Pole Plants. Because those can Lineage into Monster Kelp. And that will eat basically anything on it's own, unlike the pole plant you have to actively bait into eating a lizard. Most lizard species will run from you if you get them to low HP (Red Lizard is again an exception to this rule. It gets MORE hostile if you've injured it. Not that that is saying much. It also gets more hostile if you attempt to tame it. Or look at it. Or breath near it. Or exist within 2 rooms of where it is currently. It just hates your guts, and has no qualms about telling you that. Usually with projectile glue spit.)

I don’t know if its been confirmed, but lizards being the equivalent of dogs to the ancients in the past is a popular head-cannon which makes some traits make more sense, such as orange lizard telepathy and the variety of seemingly purposeless fancy frills and stripes on lizards, knowing the ancients love of genetic modification. It also explains why they’re tamed so easily, its natural.

Small correction on taming (but, as mentioned, a deep dive is worth, so a simplification is understandable here!): the gratitude sound increases rep. I've had easily-tamed (e.g. Cyan) and apparently not-very-hungry lizards follow me around, initial Dropwig still firmly in their maw, lol. You can take the present out of their mouth (risky if not yet tamed!) and feed it back to them repeatedly, quickly grinding rep, which can be useful with harder-to-tame species like Yellows and Salamanders.

Cyan: Appears only in a single place on Survivor with DLC enabled or not at all without, present from 1st region on Hunter - "most commonly found in mid to late-game areas"
Blue: Appears in like half regions in the game, including the 2nd region most players ever visited: "a family of stubby critters that make appearances in both mid and late-game areas"
Not sure if the early/mid/late classification makes any sense whatsoever in Rain World, unless we are counting the "intented" Survivor route maybe + DLC regions as they appear in their respective campaigns, in which case I still feel like most of those descriptions don't make much sense.
Also the sliding trick you've shown for black lizards works on every lizard species and doesn't require you to slide below them, your spear gets bonus damage when thrown while sliding and will then penetrate any lizard's armor
Other than that, great video, amazing amount of effort put into it clearly!

It doesn't actually penetrate the armor, right? I think a loading screen tip says that, but it's really that spears are thrown at a downward angle and reflect up. It goes under the lizards head. If they are stunned lying flat on the ground, slide throws will bounce because they can't sneak under the lizards head. It's also not uncommon to be able to stab their open mouth when you are sliding into them if they go for a bite, but that's not really anything special.
It effectively 'penetrates' the armor as a combat mechanic but i dont think it actually pierces their armor. It's more of a bypass with a throw force bonus added for good measure. It also doesn't work at all distances, because the spear will bounce back up a bit and can hit the armor again if it's at the right distance.

    some misconceptions about white lizards:
-While faster, they only have a very short burst of speed and will give up fairly soon and go back to camping unless you remain very close to them, if triggered from further they wont even have such a notizable burst, only Vultures, Noodleflies, Firebugs, Dropwigs and Miros birds are able to outrun the slugcat on ground in this game.
-White lizards cannot climb ceilings, only blue lizards, cyan lizards, centipedes and Dropwigs can actually do that
-Their tongue behaves different than other lizard tongues, instead of using it to mainly disarm you or slow you down while chasing you, they will completely stand still when they catch you and start reeling you back which is extremely dangerous if there is anything else arround since they wont let you go unless you get really close to them or stun them.

    • @fishyfishyfishy500akabs8
      @fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Some observations I made in my own time:
      - no actually, that is the speed they operate at and white lizards will often run when choosing to move. You can see them often use a “galloping” form of movement which is slower than a slugcat on the ground but much faster than a climbing or tunnel crawling slugcat.
Other lizards like cyans will often use this gait as well and this is the gait that lizards move with when they want to run quickly. Most other lizards however will move by moving one limb in front of the other in a sort of “walk” most of the time except when say they *really* want a certain prey item, are enraged by the player or scavengers repeatedly attacking them without killing them, or are fleeing from vultures or other predators.
The only reason whites give up easily is because their AI tends to prioritize redisguising and waiting in ambush over continuing a pursuit, and those with high energy values can override this urge and chase prey more actively.
      - all lizards will let go if they reel you in too close. A lizard can’t bite and tongue something at the same time. If you can avoid being slingshotted into the white lizard’s mouth this is a fairly reliable way to avoid dying to them since their tongue has a wind up and cooldown between uses and they are unable to bite the instant you get into reach of them.
      - this guy missed the fact that basically all lizards have a charge, even wall climbers like whites, blues, and cyans will occasionally charge if they are on level ground (one cyan even does it in his video), but will usually prioritize using their unique abilities over charging. They also cannot charge while swimming.

The "Useless Trivia" section includes incredibly useful pieces of information. Pinning lizards is one of the most reliable ways of killing or navigating past them, with proper consideration or just being generally opportunistic you're going to commonly pin lizards allowing you to either finish them off, run past or tame them by repeatedly throwing food at them, snatching it out of their mouths then throwing it back till they like you.
Mouth spears are a great way of killing or removing the threat of a lizard. Using the tongue as a guide/timing if your spear hasn't been yoinked gives you an almost guaranteed mouth spear if you've set it up properly.
Cyans going flying gives you significantly more incentive to fight them so that they're no longer chasing you, in small rooms it's like an extended stun, in larger rooms it can fling them across the entire screen and out of your midst and in rooms with death pits it can send them careening to their demise.
Saving lizards is by far the best method of taming them, the amount of reputation it gives from saving a lizard from a vulture instantly tames most lizard types.
Lizard's unique voicelines introduced in Downpour allows you to identify lizards without seeing them, potentially saving you from off screen BS. Plus it's a shame you didn't just put each voiceline in as you have a whole lot of footage of them, surely you could've just slapped in them each hissing as an example of the sound they make.

    Some random fact(s):
Train Lizards are also called Hurricane Lizards because of the mod that was avalible during the early stages of the game (before monk & hunter got introduced) and that mod being the Hurricane mod. The Train lizard was likely given its name due to the insanely unfair speed it was given.
*The Train lizard does not attack large creatures like vultures or the red centipede when untamed. When they're tamed however, they go absolutely ham on them and become a killing machine.*
(The lizard was then sourced from this mod for Inv/Enot/???/Paincat/Whatever the heck you wanna call them, just like how More Slugcats was taken in and turned into the masterpiece that is ✨ *Downpour* ✨)
Basically what the mod is (Hurricane):
Overloads every region with the train lizard (primarily outskirts), locks shelters that would otherwise be avalible by default... and a lot more chaos.
Strawberry lizards are nicknamed Zoop lizards because well... ZOOP. That long tongue of theirs being like a grappling hook. Also, their tongues are apparently longer than a white's from what I heard.
Caramel lizards may have taken inspiration off the golden lizards from The Drought mod. (I forgot if the gold lizards were from Drought but I swear I remember them supposedly being in there somewhere-)
White lizards used to be able to eat Blue lizards in the earlier stages of the game before monk and hunter.

In my first attempt at Enot's campaign where I actually made it past Shaded, I tamed a train lizard. Named him Long Dennis.
Experimenting with him also taught me that they are immune to centipede shocks, and considering he managed to 3v1 a trio of Reds at one point, I think they have immunity to those as well. I don't know if they're also immune to worm grass or pole plants, but I assume they are.
In case you truly wanna know how insane these things are, I did spend some time spawning in creatures for him to fight. The results:
They oneshot regular vultures. They can consistently run a gauntlet of all four birds (Regular vulture, king vulture, miros bird, miros vulture)
They can kill BLL, and if they're in a good position can even fend off a DLL for about a minute.
They win against every creature in the game except for DLL, MLL, Leviathans, and the Scav Chief (who, for some reason, is immune to Train Lizard bites).
Also, fun Train Lizard fact: They do have tongues (and the second longest in the game at that), but the code prevents them from actually using it.

I've always thought of strawberry lizards as young red lizards, they are still familiarizing themselves in this harsh, unforgiving world. Surviving mainly off bugs until they are large and old enough to take on tougher prey. Their clumsy, slow movement could be because they are still learning how to traverse the rough terrain.
The red lizard's behavior is shown in real life by Komodo dragons and wolves, komodo dragons are cannibals and will eat younger , weaker komodos whenever they have the chance. Wolves will do a similar behavior where they will kill the pups of rival packs to defend their territory. So adult reds will kill the younger one while it is still slow and defenseless so that they won't grow to kill them when the current adult old and weak and steal their territory, and the adult gets food at the same time.
The lighter colors might possibly darken with age and be used as a display for mating. It could be used for males to fight over a female. And for a female to show she is fertile and in heat to the males.
The strawberry's tongue (at least from what I've seen) seem to be used less as transportation and more for catching small insects and catching up to fast prey. Despite their size, they still support the powerful jaws of the red lizard with a 63% bite lethality chance, which is the second highest bite lethality chance of the lizards. Only being outmatched by the adults. both adult and young are able to bite spears in half with their powerful tongue and jaws.
It is possible that strawberry's have not yet learnt how to spit, or it simply being too weak and energy consuming to do so at this age.

Funny thing about white lizards, gourmand is a direct counter to them. If they grapple you from below they're gonna die to what I like to call fat damage. This is because they accelerate gourmand to a lethal speed. Also, if you're not tired you can pull them around like a wagon.

I love lizards! As a guy who doesn’t move from regions much, I’ve had lots of time to observe and feed lizards which means that the chances of them attacking me are very low and I really enjoy the company. Though for most lizards it is very hard to get them to follow you places, that’s why I particularly like blue lizards, besides they are good enough bodyguards in order for you to kill the other lizard that’s trying to eat you without you or your friend lizard dying.
I particularly liked being a lizard tamer in farm arrays and sky islands (not being eaten by invisible enemies or collective consciousnesses was very cool and dope ngl) but passing through scavenger tolls is always a nightmare, I’ve made many enemies that way. All my homies hate heavily armed numerous human monkeys.

the reason for their bite immunity is actually because lizards are unable to damage any lizard heavier than themself, so red lizards are incapable of biting spit, green, and train lizards, and all other lizards can't damage reds. train lizards are immune to ALL lizard bites, and green lizards are immune to bites from all lizards lighter than a train. therefore if every lizard type were to fight, train lizards would always win. i wrote a book

As someone who has spent an unreasonable amount of time taming lizards, the only new information I learned here was that blue lizards are afraid of white lizards. Although, this just causes them to not initiate fights with white lizards since they are only barely afraid of them.
The random fact that tamed lizards aren't afraid of vultures is kind of a lie. If they are by themself, they will run away from vultures still. They only attack vultures when they are near slugcat, how close the threat has to be to slugcat for them to go on the offense is heavily dependent on their personality.
The sleeping for taming fact is sort of correct. The effectiveness of sleeping is determined by your lizard reputation. High reputation will instantly tame any lizard, even reds/trains. I'm unsure about neutral, I don't exactly keep the reputation with lizards neutral. From observing other players' experiences, and the few that I have had, bad lizard reputation seems to cause sleeping with them to have no effect on their, for lack of a better word, "tameness".
A random fun fact from me would be that attacking threats that are near lizards can tame them, although it is rather inconsistent and seems to be mostly dependent on if they see the threat take damage from you or not. Interestingly, this has a unique effect with orange lizards. Where, each time you hit a threat, it will tame one of the members of the pack within wifi range, starting with the one that sees you do it.

    • @T3sl4
      @T3sl4 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

High rep makes taming significantly easier, to be sure. There's a Monk arena challenge in which Monk trains a Blue, with a Vulture Grub and assorted weaponry.
      Spoiler:
The win condition is to tame it. Summon a Vulture, let it bite the Blue, then free it by stabbing the Vulture. When the threat leaves, it will snuggle up to you, cute lil scrungo bloo

Oh yeah, lizard taming is fun.
Another fun fact: when your pet lizard is injured, it will constantly try to bite you. And it could actually kill you before the dlc (Or maybe before some update? Idk). Probably bcs bby is in pain and stressed :"c. Sleeping in shelter together heals them, feeding them - doesn't.
In my experience, the most loyal lizards were cyan. They will follow you anywhere and stay close all the time, no questions asked.
Same with Green lizards, but they can't follow you all the time :")
Blue lizards are similar, but most of times they get scared and run away when facing something dangerous.
Orange/Yellow lizards are pretty loyal.. until you visit another region with different pack present. Then your bby will betray you and try to eat you, because it will connect to new pack. (I didn't check that with tamed alpha tho)
White lizards are too independent, they don't really like following you around. Seems like it damages their pride, lol. And if they see food in the room, they will forget about you and start chasing it. Or it will be very hard for them to decide whether they should leave you for food or not.
Red lizards are super independent too, they can follow you, of course, and are a bit more loyal than white lizards, but I believe territory means a bit more for them than you are.
Pink lizards.. eh, they're fine. Pretty loyal.
      Same with Eels and Salamanders.
And I'm still not sure about black, train, caramel and strawberry lizards... Gotta check their behaviour!

@@dans_animart10 I remember dying to lizard nips many times before Downpour came out, so many instant deaths when waking up. Nippy red lizards were terrifying lol. I think either enabling Remix or Downpour prevents tamed lizards from killing you (unless they are on extremely low hp), although it might just be a base game update as I don't play without Remix or Downpour.
For me, cyan and pink lizards are typically the most loyal. I've had pink lizards purposely build momentum on a pole just to fling themself across a gap so they could continue following me. They're also were similar to cyans where they generally avoid taking food you didn't offer them (unless its a centipede of scav).
From what I've seen, greens are almost always rather greedy for food. Some can avoid trying to eat food if it is a decent amount away, but they always will take food if it happens to be in their way or nearby. Of course, almost every green I've seen is very brave and will try very hard to fight threats.
All blues I've had struggle to resist the temptation of food. Around 80% of blues are rather big cowards, only helping out if the predator happens to be both near you and them. However, I've found that 20% of blues are stupidly loyal, like, why are you fighting the green lizard all the way over there that is posing no threat to me you moron- Speaking of blues, I had one time where I was passing through a gate with one and it grabbed me. It must have been a bug or something because it kind of just held me in the gate for 3 minutes straight without moving an inch. Eventually I used dev tools to free myself, and it acted like a normal tamed blue lizard, still nippy, but nothing else different
I've never experienced the turning of tamed orange lizards, and the only campaign I can think of where you could naturally experience that would be Saint. I do not really play Saint's campaign at all, so... yeah. They don't usually struggle resisting the temptation of food, but they aren't exactly good at trying to defend you. Also they can bug out and start trying to constantly eat out the sky, so that's something
White lizards take some time to warm up to you, but after some time they will try to follow more closely to you and usually ignore the stealth spots they really want. That's also another thing I've noticed about tamed lizards. They typically have slight changes after long periods of time of traveling with you, the most notable being their need to follow you more closely. They also are much quicker to forgive you for accidentally hurting them (usually will be nippy for a while, but it takes more/longer to make them nippy, as well as makes it take more for them to turn against you). Anyways, white lizards struggle to resist the temptation of food, and will usually go quite far in attempts to chase food. Although, their tongue can be surprisingly useful when fighting certain creatures like dropwigs or other lizards.
Red lizards are both very protective, and love to eat food. They love to spit at potential threats from over a screen away, and will quickly murder and vultures, monster kelp, or lizards trying to eat you. Of course, when they see food, they will usually take it if there isn't a reason not to in between it and the food. Although, I've actually spent a long time with a red lizard in Outskirts as Spearmaster while collecting lore. They follow really close to more, even bumping into me if they were separated from me for a while (so cute). They are rather good at resisting the temptation of food for a red lizard, usually ignoring it unless they have been staring at the food for a good 10 seconds. Even then, they refuse to walk outside of a certain range of me (with actively carrying food increasing the range) for almost every reason. They will even quickly follow me rather than engaging in battle with the other red lizard... not that the other red lizard will usually let that slide if they see my red lizard.
Eelzards and salamanders are similar in that they are okay at resisting the temptation of food. Although, eelzards are generally more brave than salamanders, being willing to fight threats that are decently far from me. Unfortunately, eelzard bites are very ineffective against most threats, making salamanders more useful when defending you (when they can reach the target).
Black lizards are rather loyal, they uh, try to defend you. But they are literally blind so they struggle to try to defend you. They also are good at avoiding food unless its in their way... because they are blind. Although, from what I've seen they are still decent at resisting the temptation of food even when they realize its there. They really do try! Their blind is just a huge hindrance...
Caramels are similar to greens, except less brave, less resistant to the temptation of food, and have weaker bites. Of course, they can leap at their targets, but that usually just ends up having them get in the way of my spears.
Strawberrys are rather loyal, willing to fight things they really shouldn't be. They are decent at ignoring the temptation of food, although they typically have a seizure when in a batfly room. They are very brave, to the point of stupidity because most of the other lizards eat them. They're bites are also very ineffective, being even weaker than eelzard bites.
I don't have very much experience with trains, as I don't play Inv. However, I have spawned a few using beastmaster. From what I've seen, they are similar to reds, although a bit more cowardly. They obliterate anything that threatens you, although sometimes fear will take over and they will run for the hills. They are a bit less crazy for food, but still really struggle resisting the temptations of food.
Yes I love the lizards of Rain World, they're too cute!

To say I was shocked is to say nothing XD. What a betrayal X").
I experienced a betrayal of an orange lizard during Rivulet campaign, there's a lot of orange lizard packs too. I went from chimney canopy to industrial complex with two tamed lizards (I have mod to prevent them from fighting) - cyan and orange. And as soon as we crossed karma gates, right in the next room orange lizard's antennas started to wiggle and glow, and it went towards me, hissing and definitely trying to bite me. Luckily, my cyan lizard was quick to react and protected me 🥹

although I have several more facts for some aspects!
Firstly - more of actually usable facts: If being grappled by a lizard's tongue, just bending them via structure makes them lose grip on you since they really don't like their tongues bent, so maneuvering around white lizards when grabbed may be easier if you just cut a corner somewhere
And at last, MOST IMPORTANT TRIVIA FACT:
If for some reason an Orange Lizard starts thinking that it is in a pack of 0 lizards (that's right! *0* lizards!) Rain World will crash. Although not seen, but it was still somewhat found in the code and it's hilarious

there's a very interesting game mechanic that most people never notice, since it's not stated anywhere in the wiki and can only be seen in the game's code. lizards cannot grab or damage any lizard with a body mass 1.2 times or higher than theirs unless tamed:
blue and strawberry lizards can't damage any other lizard types. they both have 1.4 body mass which is the lowest out of every lizard species.
with a body mass of 1.7, yellow lizards can damage blues, strawberries, and other yellows. they also have just barely enough body mass to damage black and cyan lizards but are incapable of attacking any other lizards.
pink and white lizards have 2.1 body mass, allowing them to damage each other and lighter lizards but not red, green, spit, eel or train lizards. black and cyan lizards both have 2 body mass. this makes them vulnerable to bites from yellow lizards but they are still the same tier as pink and white lizards. salamanders also have 2.1 body mass.
with a body mass of 3.1, reds are almost the exact same, the only exception being that they can damage other reds. additionally, they deal extra damage to other reds because of their "attacks" relationship.
eel and spit lizards both have 4 body mass, meaning they can surprisingly damage each other and all lizards other than greens and trains. this also makes them both immune to red lizard bites, so eels always win against reds, making them significantly more powerful than you might think.
green lizards, with a whopping 7.5 body mass, are the strongest base-game lizard, being immune to bites from every other lizard species in the game. note that with the downpour dlc enabled, train lizards can attack them, but they are immune to bites from the other three lizards added by the dlc. they also actively hunt zoop lizards and attempt to carry them off to their den.
train lizards from the downpour dlc are the only lizard capable of attacking greens, and cannot be damaged by ANY lizards except for other trains. this results in them always successfully killing lizards. despite having the lowest rivalry with each other and all other lizard species, in practice they almost always end up killing every lizard in the same room as them, and will not hesitate to attack other trains on sight. they're even more aggressive towards each other than reds. they have 13 body mass, almost twice that of a green. they can still be carried off by powerful vultures though, so they're not nearly heavy enough to be a decent apex predator.
all tamed lizards ignore this limit, however; a tamed pink lizard can attack a green or train. technically, a tamed strawberry lizard could bite a wild train lizard, if it can get close enough without immediately getting slaughtered.

really great video! i would've loved to had seen it few months ago when i just started the game and was losing my mind over lizards... but well, there's also fun in finding out things yourself!
    few things i'd add:
    - it's common for green lizards to tank red lizards. they're immune to the lethal bite AND all lizards deal "territorial bites" while fighting each other, which doesn't apply to green lizards. while fighting, red lizard take green lizard's full bite force, while dealing minimal damage itself. taking a tamed green lizard to fight a red is almost a guarantee win. also, once a lizard is tamed, it stops dealing territorial bites to other lizards and goes for its full bite damage.
    - red lizards actively hunt down vultures. that's why they're immune to the masks.
    - tamed lizards can sometimes nip on you. many people think it's because of "hunger mechanic", but it's untrue. there are maaaany reasons why a lizard can become snappy, which include: they're injured (they need to be fed then), they're stressed (after fight or after taking them to a new region), they are stressed because of you (don't jump around their heads too much...), or simply their personality (high aggression and energy means they'll be more likely to bite you, so cyans and reds give the most love bites as they're most likely to have high values in these stats). they also will target slugpups you have around, so it's important to feed an injured lizard as fast as possible.
    - blue lizards can also yoink spears/rocks from the slugcat's paws. alpha red lizards option will just make red lizards specifically be able to break the spears. if they steal and snap an explosive spear, they will take damage. but the red lizards' tongue cannot pull the slugcat into their mouth like whites and blues, only steal spears.
    - green lizards are also immune to worm grass.

Five pebbles gave the cyan lizards no reproductive system so they’re rendered extinct by the time of the survivor’s campaign.

Is there proof to that or is it just speculation? Because in most campaigns they're present, also there's no proof that Five Pebbles created Cyans at all. Them being absent in survivor/monk campaigns is just a game difficulty thing.

I had a tamed pink lizard kill two reds a vulture almost all by herself, while playing as spearmaster XD
She was a little crazy, attacking everything in her way as if she was a red lol. I almost didn't do anything, cuz I was really scared of hitting her instead. I guess my major contribution was distracting the creatures while she did all of the work lol

They actually aren't horns on lizards in the saint campaign. It's fur evolved for the snow. So it not showing up on strawberries with lineage is actually intentional

Mind you, that while certain enemies may be prominent in DLC campaigns, keep the following in mind.
    Spearmaster litteraly farts out spears.
    Gormound has Mantreads.
Artificer is litteraly focused about blowing things up.
Rivulet can just hit the bricks if things aren't going well.
    And Saint.
    _Saint._
"Blows Up _Mind_ with _Mind_ ."
