OK, so the wrist pin bearing crapped out on this kit and self destructed. It only damaged the top of the piston. The cylinder was fine and big bearing had no damage. I bought the same kit but also bought a Wiesco wrist pin bearing as well as a Cometic top end gasket kit. The head gasket in this kit is quite thin and didn't seem to have much life left when i pulled it apart. The Cometic head gasket was visibly better! All is good again and the ATV is doing great,

Hey, old video, but I have a KXF80, is the engine the same in the LT80? Im needing to rebuild it and they look the same? Im hoping parts interchange?? Thank you!!
@@TepcoCycleRepair Thank you! Im learning, bought the kxf80 last week, been a struggle to find anything for it, I see the LT80 has a good following! Appreciate it! Have any spare parts?
@@JohnVHLife They are super simple engines, I own 2 LT80's right now. I swap all the fuel petcocks to PW80 (just leave a small plugged fuel line on the carb port for the original petcock pump) so I can turn the fuel completely off. They fail all the time and fill the crank case with fuel. Use good full synthetic oil, both my oil injectors are still working fine, it will run great for a long time. Enjoy!
@@TepcoCycleRepair I dont think mine has an oil injector, not that I can find, I will do the petcock change, I was trying to figure that thing out.. Thanks again!
I lost my air filter container thing that goes from the carberator to the bottom of the air filter container do you know what thats called or is that not so important?
Arvin Ocampo The intake boot is needed if you are running the stock air box set up. You can run a different filter that mounts directly to the carb. Most importantly, run one or the other, don't ride it without a filter!
I have a problem! My carb has no little hose that go's underneath the steering collom so it dosnt give any power to the wheels ... where do i need connect it
Ok so there are two hoses on the right side of the carburator. The small one towards the front is a vent line it needs to be open, the one towards the rear is the vacuum line for the fuel valve, it needs to be connected to the fuel petcock unless you upgraded to a on/off/reserve valve, then it needs to be plugged. Below that one is the fuel line.
@@TepcoCycleRepair yeah i connected it like that but it's very strange i need to press en release my finger amm the time on that vacum hose . Otheewise it won't go fast en it's kinda stuttering
I would get a new bowl. But you could clean it up good, put some 2 part JB weld on the threads and stick it in for temporary use. You only need it to manually drain it. The overflow will still work. I also use a pw80 fuel petcock so I can shut it off and run the bowl dry.
I was thinking about buying one of these top end kits. How do you know that the inexpensive top end kit will last? Do you know other people who used it and had good results?
onemoreboat This kit is still going strong, the young man who rides it uses it regularly. It's doing great and running strong. I did have to re torque the head bolts i would just tighten them tighter then the specs next time. Remember, these engines are made in Taiwan so this kit is may be made in the same general area. I used the stock cylinder bolts, didn't bother using the supplied bolts. These engines also blow out crank seals. The fuel petcock leaks and fills the cases with gas and when you try to start it, it can blow a seal out. (Easy fix) these are great strong engines and I wouldn't hesitate to use one of these kits again.
I put a cheap top end kit off ebay on my banshee and I have about 18-20 hours on it now it seems to be ok but it worries me for being a cheap knock off. I'm saving money right now to put a real top end on it. I ride it pretty hard. I would not be afraid to put the little cheap top end on my sons lt80 or even my other sons blaster
What was the original issue with the 4 wheeler before you tore it down? mine is starting to take longer to start but when it runs it seems to have full power

@@paulshepherd3878 Your on the right track, compression test. If it's low, you can also pull the exhaust and look at the piston to see if it's scored. You can also loosen the exhaust enough to pull it away from the cylinder, then see if it starts easy, if so your exhaust is clogged. These have a tendency to blow the right side crank seal as well, I've done several crank seals, almost like they weren't put in correctly from the factory. If you're a mechanic, 2 strokes are easy, think of it like this, you only want a 2 stroke pulling and moving air where it's supposed to. If it's sucking air from anywhere else, it won't act right. Hey I was wondering if you could help me out I bent my rear disc brake rotor and was wondering if I can bend that back straight or like do I basically have to get a new one
Hi, I did the same thing on my son 89 lt80 and now after putting it back together no power under acceleration if I lift the rear tires off the ground on a floor jack it revs great but with a load no power at all, if I feed extra fuel to the front of the carb its doing the same thing, if I give little more air with a blowgun feels a little touch better but no big difference, carb is clean reeds look good, any suggestions? thank you
Loosen the exhaust bolts connecting it to the cylinder and pull the exhaust off a little then see what it does. I have seen these get a clogged exhaust and cause a similar issue. Also make sure your air filter is fully mounted and clean.
Tepco Cycle Repair hi, I did remove the exhaust and still no difference, no power under a load, if I put the rear wheels up on a jack it revs beautifully, do you think the reed valve as some issues? I can see a little bit of light on one corner of the reed, thank you so much for your help
Need help, can't seem to troubleshoot the problem with mine, have a brand new battery on it and when I go to start it, it will not do anything, it makes a little click noise everytime I hit the start button in a little tiny black box located under the seat near the battery with wires running out of the box. I could send a pic via email if this would help. And I've checked all fuses and they are fine
Kyle Johnson look under the right rear fender for a black box and the end of some wires. If you look at it from the rear there is a red button under a clear rubber like cover , it's a breaker, the button pops out when tripped. Push the button in and see if that fixes it.
Tepco Cycle Repair thanks for the reply, I checked that breaker and I did have to reset it, then when I put a battery on it and tried to start it it kicked again and started clicking from that box again, I have a picture of the box that is clicking if that would help
Kyle Johnson it's the starter relay that's clicking. If it popped the breaker again you need to check the wires for a short. Or the starter is bad drawing to much power popping the breaker.
Just warm it up and drive it like you stole it. These engines are air cooled not race engines so tolerances are not crazy tight. If you put it together right and auto lube is working (or pre mix) you'll be fine.

Japanese and Chinese is way different.
These engines are made in Taiwan.
These kits are junk and so are the gaskets. Stick with oem suzuki parts. They run for ever
I prefer OEM gaskets and wrist pin bearings as both have gone out on these kits before. The rest seems to work fine.
Do not have to gap the piston rings?
Sam Brown 01 I didn't have to, the rings as they came in the kit were within spec. If you are using an old cylinder, I would definitely check the gap, and cylinder to piston clearance.
