    Other info:
    I touched on it in the video but if you are traveling in a club room, then you will gain access to the Caledonian Sleeper lounge where available. Other lounges that Caledonian Sleeper Club Room passengers are granted to include but are not limited to, the Avanti West Coast lounge at London Euston and the LNER first class lounge at Edinburgh Waverley. The club rooms also feature en-suite toilet and showering facilities. The top class of club room even features a double bed, although you do need to be willing to part with over £400!

    Thank you so much for this. I'm autistic so it's super helpful to be able to see exactly what the train will look like before boarding. Unfortunately all the classic rooms had gone at time of booking, so I'm prepared for a night on a hard bed with cold air being blown at me! Thanks for doing this super helpful review.

    Thanks for the video. So disappointing that CS's brand new Mark V coaches are noisy. People I know who've travelled on CS also say they ride quite roughly too. So much for progress in 40 years since the Mark III coaches they replaced - I always got a good night's sleep on them!

    Thank you for the report Dylan. You never mentioned whether or not all the amenities were working. There have been so many guests reporting faults of one sort or another. For the seated coach the lighting seemed too bright.

    Excellent reviews. It's amazing how comfort seems to be regarded as an irrelevance by TOCs. The seats are too hard and too tall, but we're told that is for safety. Cold air blowing at you all night is ridiculous, and the noise level came though on your film too. The Azumas that you have covered also seem to be designed by someone trying to drum up business for an osteopath.

    I like a lot of the small details: card access, door locks, overhead locker instead of open bin ... on the other hand, the room itself seemed claustrophobic, maybe it's the direction of the room orientation which seems turned 90 degrees from most sleepers minimizing the size of the window. The cold air blowing in the seated compartment would make me sick by the end if the trip. Were those cars built by Alstrom? Their air handling is bad like that on the Chicago buses. Finally, did I understand that your food is delivered to your seat instead of eating in a dining car? I don't like that concept as the seated compartment will fill with various food smells. The rail companies seem intent on eliminating the gracious dining car everywhere! p.s. is it just me, or do others feel uneasy leaving your large luggage unguarded on the racks in the vestibules? I use them, but I'm always expecting something to go missing someday. Another nice thorough review!

      These new coaches were manufactured by CAF in Spain. They have had endless teething issues despite being tested for many months and entering service late.

    • @DylansTravelReports
      @DylansTravelReports  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the food is delivered to your seat in the seated coach as opposed to eating in the club car. I wouldn't feel too uneasy about leaving your luggage in the vestibule on this train; crime is unheard of on this train!

      I travel with not much of values other than camera and phone which are always near me. Hasn’t Amtrak delivered to sleeper?
      I’ve been on two long haul super liner coast to coast routes so I’m learning. Despite 40% discount I declined sleeper because Amtrak coach is okay for me.
      AS FAR AS THE NEW CEO of Amtrak Richard Anderson who should be run out of town on a rail - who knows with push back hopefully the dining cars will return. I’m old school and felt guilty I didn’t have a jacket to wear for dinner on the super liner Table cloth = jacket!
      In sleeper it appears you are ostracized LOL and coach it’s open!
      In 2017 my mom passed away and the Chicken Fricassee I had on the Lakeshore LTD was just like hers. She used the Fanny Farmer cookbook a two hundred year old classic.. I’ll bet Amtrak did too. The food I just had on the Lakeshore was very bad - crusted burnt to the bottom.

      Just seen that last night's southbound Highlander service suffered problems with the motive power. A rescue engine had to be sent. Pax saying via Twitter that a lack of power led to a cold train, no flushing toilets etc. @ramanavenkata talks about having to endure a long delay. Another passenger said it didn't reach Euston until after 1400 hrs.

    Nice comparison between the two products! Personally, for such a length of time, I'd be going for the sleeper option, even if it is substantially more expensive. You get your own room to yourself. I'd be wary of leaving valuables in the luggage racks...

    I feel like these trains are so bad compared to Amtrak's long distance trains, even though there are cars are 40 years old. I've ridden Amtrak many times in a Roomette and they're super comfortable and really nice. They can be pricey but I love going in them! For me the train is part of the journey. Especially with the great views. This just doesn't seem to be as comfortable!

      @Jim Bruce - Do you usually have a morbid imagination? :-) Cut the 12 inches of tape into 4 3-inch pieces to tape the towel securely over the forced air ventilation. Half a Z-Rest pad is enough to pad your thighs, butt, back and shoulders. In this way you take care of all the aspects of being in coach that made it difficult for Dylan to sleep well. It's light-weight and compact, because the Z-Rest folds up, when you're not using it.
