    Always looking forward to seeing your videos JD. Man, you are going to be busy over the next few months. Best of luck with your projects.

      Thanks Jim! Yes I’m going to be busy w the Jeep but what a great wintertime project! I hope my timeline is reasonable to get all that done.

    Do you need the proportion valve since you have one on the inside the frame on the drivers side under the drivers side seat?

      @JDOffline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As part of the overall brake system upgrade, I wanted a proportioning valve that was matched to the new master cylinder so I replaced the factory one with this one. I removed the factory PV from it's stock location on the frame as well. Thanks for the call out, in a future video I cover the brakes and PV swap, etc. JD

    -if u didn’t hear about it I can send you (or anyone in the area) a picture of the flyer. I really want to hear more about the project first hand

    Hi JD, just wondering how you are liking the brake set up with this? I see you needed a 7" booster and wondering where you got it from? Do you know off hand if the stock porportioning valve can be used? I have an 85 with a kevlar tub and 383 stroker, but it a beast to stop safely. Thanks, Kevin

      Kevin, so I have stock brakes (disk front and drum rears) that are completely rebuilt to stock (no upgrades). I spoke to Wilwood tech support on the phone and learned they don't make the actual boosters but aftermarket companies will pair up their master cylinders with an off brand booster and market them as a "Wilwood" package. So the booster that came with my kit as you noted didn't clear the hood and I ended up ordering a Summit brand 7 inch booster. I hooked that up to the Wilwood master cylinder and ran all new stainless steel brake lines. I removed the factory proportioning valve because my kit came with a new one and what a bear that was but with the motor out it was a little easier. Then I had to call classic tube and have custom lines made from where the old proportioning valve was to the new with the proper fittings for the Wilwood kit, it was a pain but classic tube delivered. So with everything hooked up, I face the same challenge as you. My motor is 357 horsepower and I have to be really careful stopping the Jeep especially if I'm playing around and driving fast...I do a lot of downshifting etc. but the brakes aren't right as far as I'm concerned. I have two washers shimming out my master cylinder and I'm going to remove one so the pedal engages the brakes sooner and then I'll re bleed everything and see if that helps. If not, I'll be looking into some upgraded front disks with better pads and possibly an aftermarket amc 20 disk conversion kit. So, I don't really have an answer for you and can't say that the Wilwood master cylinder solved anything or made it stop better. I think I'm hurting myself with that 7 inch booster but really had no other choice there. The factory prop valve may work but you would have to get custom lines as well to match up to the Wilwood master cylinder. I'm hoping some basic trouble shooting makes mine work better or good enough as I don't drive my Jeep daily. Hope this helps and if you come up with a solution let me know! JD

    Which update did you install the power brake system?

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately I didn’t do a devoted video to the brakes but mention it in a couple different videos. Let me know what questions you have I will try to help. I know I ended up having to get a 7 inch power brake booster to clear the hood as well as custom lines from classic tube from the old proportioning valve to the new. The rest of it went together fairly easy. JD

    JD. I really like this system and will probably use it in my rebuild. I am also going to purchase the stainless steel replacement brake lines. How does the OEM brake line kit work with the Wilwood system. I watched you final video and it looks like the brake proportioning valve is now under the master cylinder vs on the frame. Thanks and happy 4th of July.

      Michael, this is a great system. I will tell you the "kit" I bought was for a CJ7 but came with a 9 inch booster that would not clear the hood. Also, the factory brake lines won't connect directly to the prop valve and I ended up calling classic tube and had them make me 3 new lines with the appropriate fittings and had to use some unions to make everything work. Call Wilwood tech support, they are great and will walk you through what you need. I ordered the stainless brake line kit from classic tube and ended up calling them for custom fittings for the ends of the lines (where it used to connect to the factory prop valve on the frame rail) to the new prop valve mounted to the master cylinder. It all works and looks and runs great but highly recommend you do your homework on this to avoid buying parts you don't need as I did (9 inch booster).

      @@JDOffline Thanks, I'm glad I asked. I will give them a call and work out all the details before ordering anything. I just finished the final touches on the frame this evening. Probably going to take next weekend off and take the Hobbie out and catch some Reds.

      @@JDOffline So the power booster is not needed? You have just the master cylinder installed?

      Dave Havrda Hey Dave. I bought a 7 inch booster and it cleared no problem.

    Hi JD, i am a new subscriber. Just curious to know how big a difference the Wilwood power brake system stops the jeep compared to the old brakes. thanks

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Gregory, thank you for the sub and welcome to the channel!! To me it made a big difference but my old brakes were not power brakes so the move to power brakes made a big difference for sure. The Wilwood master cylinder was well worth it in my opinion, it looks great and is all aluminum so it won't rust and is a very high quality product (as all Wilwood stuff is). With the 350 in the Jeep, I wanted to ensure I had plenty of brakes which is what caused me to upgrade. Hope this helps, had I tried a non Wilwood master and then the Wilwood master, I probably could answer your question better. JD

      @@JDOffline I have a 84 CJ 7. The wilwood kit comes standard with a 8" booster. is that going to clear the hood ????

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gregorycary9982 Greg, check out this video, it will walk you through the clearance issues I had with the 9" booster that came with my kit. I contacted Wilwood about this and was surprised to find out they don't make the actual boosters, other manufacturers do and pair their master cylinders up with those boosters and call it a Wilwood kit. I ended up having to go with a 7" booster (couldn't find an 8" in black that would work) although I think an 8" booster would work (non tested but I think it would). th-cam.com/video/iPpCr8cil9M/w-d-xo.html

    You really should label the video "JUST UNBOXING JEEP PARTS, WITH NO INSTALLATION "
    99% of us could care less to see your commercial. That's why we use youtube

      Sorry you didn't like the video. I have over 70 videos on my channel detailing as much as I can detail for the benefit of all CJ owners and trying to keep them on the road. I'm not sponsored by Wilwood or anyone else and do these videos because I enjoy them and for the feedback I get. I cover the brake install in segments in other videos but not one dedicated video to just that. Hope you check out some of the other videos I have on my channel and maybe your opinion will change. I appreciate your feedback. JD
