I listened to it all and I agree with you Dan. I think it’s a really good summary and analyse. That been said, don’t you think a change of coach with a new gameplan working on strength of the Penguins players would be benefit ? I mean, they almost always start the game strong, get 1-2-3 goals in the first half of the game, anddd then they defend the rest of the way, but the D and goaltenders aren’t playing good enough to stay on top and they blow this lead. It’s the same pattern for the past 3-4 years. I mean yes Hextall, yes Dubas.. but you’re telling me 20 players are playing poorly every game for the past 3-4 years? Mike Sullivan’s plan seems to be based on defense, and yes it’s on Dubas to find a good squad. But like you said Ryan Graves was good, Marcus Pettersson was quite good also past 3-4 years. Maybe the plan could look more like Utah, Chicago, MTL utilising forwards and offense more and less counting on defense to save the day. Games finish 5-4, 7-6… not much 2-0, 2-1. Still, seems like Sully sticks to what worked 7-8 years ago. Offense should push non stop all game, not 40 min, not 50 min. They played well against Carolina, played well against good offensive teams. Penguins look like they can beat any team on most nights (for 40 min.) and then they stop and defend and we all know what comes next. I think about the turning game against Calgary last year when they blew the lead. Thinking about this 4-point night Crosby had in a 4-0 lead vs Colorado just to lose the game in Overtime. If they rely on attack and stay the game, maybe they will let 1-2-3 goals in, but they would still win 4-3. My final point is it seems like Sullivan and coaching staff are not punishing bad play of Karlsson, Letang even Malkin and Crosby on bad nights. To hear Karlsson saying « Not bad » after a horrendous night I’m thinking, what if it was Tocchet the coach, or Gerard Gallant, or someone else willing to say things out loud. Food for thoughts, I know blaming the coach is easy. But 10 years of the same coach clearly is not good for a team and it shows now.
I get the notion that Dubas should have tailored personnel decisions to meet Sully's system, but doesn't Sully also have a responsibility to use the players he's given in a way that maximizes their strengths and mitigates their weaknesses? He's like a band that only knows how to play one type of song, and the first two albums were great, but now we're on number five and no one is listening anymore.
You assume Dubas knows what he’s doings. He has no experience with bad team. He just tinkered in Toronto. He needs to do a full tear down in pit and there is little evidence to prove he can do it.
@@Bloodflowers29I have no idea why everyone is so hard on Dubas there’s literally nothing he could have done to make this team any better what we’re seeing rn is UNAVOIDABLE no matter what!!
I think using the Capitals as a benchmark is good comparison, both franchises were all in and desperately selling off picks to capture a cup. If anything, the Capitals should be in a worse position. Mismanagement is the difference. The pivotal players that won us cups - Hornqvist, Kessel, Hagelin, Bonino, Sheary, and most recently, Guentzel were never replaced
For road games, Zoom h4n is a good portable recording device. Zoom podtrak 4 isn't bad either, but you would need to bring a mic and cable too for that one.
When you put all your eggs in the thinking a bunch of 35+ year olds can carry the team and then those same players start to tail off this is what happens. Years of going all in. Bad trades. Inability to turn any draft picks into viable nhl players. This is what you get. It’s fine. We got some great years. Now it’s time for a tear down.
I am surprised to be the 1st comment. Thought your summary was great. Kind of reminds me of the type to expect after the last game of the season ::( I think Dubus brought in the kinds of players we already had but didnt need instead of the kinds of players we actually needed.I do think that if you want to play a speed game, you need speed. The Pens seem to be behind the play most of the game on old legs. My plan is to enjoy and be grateful for our big 3 while they are still here and watch the young players like Pickering develop. I just cant see the Big 3 in other sweaters but not sure how they want to linger much longer on the Pens and take the physical abuse much more for not much reward
I’ve been saying it for years. They need elite players that can carry the mail not roll players now. They need to go after marner and or rantenin next year. And fill their bottom six with these young prospects they have and see where it goes.
In what world are we talking about any of the wingers and forwards being moved? Our entire issue is defense. Were better off tapping into WBS for defenders. And que the collective "what good will that do" are the same people saying were tanked so why does it matter?

Hey Dan - Why do you not blame Sullivan for this collapse? Sullivan has been a poor coach for a number of years and needs to be fired. I'm sick of you idiots in the media not holding him accountable.
you do realize a coach can only coach, with what he has right? I am not a Sullivan apologist, he is a part of the problem, but coming in here calling someone an "idiot" because you don't agree with their opinion, tells us all you drink from the tainted water.
So, if the penguins don't have the players to play Mike Sullivan's system, isn't the Twitter mob right? That Sullivan's system isn't working?

Dubas constructed a terrible roster but the coach should be able to adapt to what he has. It's the fault of both Dubas and Sullivan.

Time to tank. We can use this season as an appetizer for the 26 & 27 drafts.

Hextall got us into this mess before Dubas. Kyle's moves haven't been great but I think Hextall made more of the bad moves that got us here.
What move has Dubas make that has really made this team better? Hextall was awful. JR after 2018 was just as bad.
Dubas signed Jarry and Karlsson. You could argue his moves were even worse. At least hextall solidified players that actually won cups
