  • I went creek fishing for trout with pink worms! I normally like to throw spinners, but I decided to switch it up and try something new. This was my first time ever using pink worms for trout fishing. These pink worms are great for trout fishing in creeks and streams. You can rig them a bunch of different ways. The trout love them!
    THANK YOU so much for watching!

    Nice job with the pink worms. It’s cool to see you catch brook trout on them. I mainly use them for rainbow trout, especially now since the rain is absolutely relentless and seems to persist in the forecast for weeks on end. the power worms a good lure for muddy conditions like you had to deal with in this video

    Sweet rod and reel combo, and nothing like the sweet sound of a nice fish tearing out line against the drag. Nice channel cat too - they definitely put up a great battle. I've lucked into them a few times sipping dry flies from the surface when fishing for trout.

    Hi. New in fresh water fishing.
    As you reel in the worm how come the rig doesn't get stuck with the bottom debris??
    Love your videos. Learning a lot.
    Stay safe.

    • @FishHawk
      @FishHawk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does get stuck sometimes. But the bottom of the creek was small pebbles and sand. So there isn't much to get stuck on. You kind of have to "feel" the bottom with your rod. You will feel the sinker bumping on the bottom. If it's getting stuck a lot go with a lighter sinker. I hope that helps. Hard to explain through text.

    What size split shot on the line? How deep does trout like in a stream?

    • @FishHawk
      @FishHawk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it just depends on the water you're fishing. Trout like to stay close to the bottom. I keep my bait as close to the bottom as possible.

  • @philsanders1930
    @philsanders1930 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Guys, I have a question (for anyone whos willing to answer it), I usually fish with spinners, crankbaits, etc... I seldom fish with live baits, because often trout swallow the hooks and then you know theyre gonna die after you release them, which really bothers me unless I know we are gonna cook a few... I notice in your vids, even using these small powrbait worms, in a strong current, deeper water and a lot of weight, their arent swallowing any hooks. Is there a "key" to that? I was thinking maybe your Line must be 2 or 4 Lb test so its just more sensitive and can be felt quicker (?) Maybe the way you are hooking the worms? Anyway, thanks for any info

    • @FishHawk
      @FishHawk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only used the worms with a split shot weight and a small drop shot hook. Also, I've only fished them in current. So the worm is not sitting still where the fish can easily suck it in and swallow it. It's more of a reaction strike. I do use 4 lb test line and I can feel any small tick. My rod is also pretty sensitive. I set the hook as soon as I feel a bite. I wacky rig the worm. Hope that helps :)

      6 Lb mono or braided main line to 4-6 Lb fluorocarbon leader is what I always use with a trout magnet bobber with some tiny split shot 12-18 inches above the hook all depending on water conditions. Set bobber height so your bait is towards bottom. try and keep your line off the water casting up stream and letting it drift down naturally with the speed of the current. Worms pink worms salted minnows and small bug plastics work great, also learn to read the current it will teach you where the fish are

      it's a crazy good lure! I bounce around between several rods and typically have 5lb test. My worm piece and lure are no larger than a grain of rice. I originally got it just for fun with bluegill, but then I started to catch 3lb+ bass on it. It's definitely my go to lure for getting out and looking for fun. A super tiny piece is great for just catching something, but you can have a long piece extend past the hook and it looks great, especially in a stream.

    Cool, but nothing good happens when you rub and de-slime the fish with your hands, even under water. Adjust your drag on the fly with a finger on the spool to slow a fish but never reel against the drag and twist up the line..

    Can't believe you tossed back a nice channel cat in favor of trout. Better tasting, texture, and if there's one there's dozens more - usually no limit on cats... oh well....

      I didn't keep any of the fish I caught. I practice catch and release most of the time. Plus, this creek isn't the cleanest. So I don't really want to eat any fish out of there lol

      @@FishHawk Ok - in that case, I can keep watching...:-) I've done the same fishing the backwater sloughs around Portland - had to get real with myself whether I would eat asnything from someone's septic tank. It's about the same situation now where I am near the Columbia... Fortunately there are still pristene creeks and streams coming off the Cascades.
