Fishing is fishing. ‘No value judgements about what style!’ Spot on Steve. Unpacking what pleasures to be had by fishing is the stuff of novels (and now TH-cam 😀). Izaak Walton would approve.

Lovely mate. Takes me back to fishing hand lines for redfin on the Murray with my grandfather. I think we all started with something like that.... :)

Glad you enjoyed it. My first fish was a redfin, too!

I enjoy all styles of trout fishing but sitting on the banks of a river with my kids bait fishing just makes me smile so much will never change that. Sweet rainbow Steve but sorry about ya float. ATB

Love the vid mate, nice little rainbow. I’m I fisherman from Western Australia and I wish we had spots like that where you can just go down and catch trout that easy

Love fishing with worms, very relaxing way of fishing.
It’s how most of us learn initially I guess.
I’m generally committed to keeping a feed when I do it now (which is fine), tend to gut hook more fish this way than any other technique.

Do you have a piece of clear line from your main line to the hook cause I see you have high viz yellow

Yep. I always run a leader on braid, regardless of its colour. I was using about a rod length of 6 pound Ocea FC fluorocarbon.

I never enjoyed eating trout until the other day
In the past I have only caught huge lunkers in the few trout trips I have taken
But I recently caught a mess of 11-13 inchers and man were they delicious
    Going back out tomorrow

    G'Day Starlo,
I think we all started fishing with a worm on our hook. I mostly fly fish but still bait drift a worm either with the fly gear (The Horror! The Horror!) or with an old Jarvis Walker "Black Queen Deluxe " rod. This rod was the coveted ultimate trout rod 60 or so years ago when I was a lad armed with a cheap K-Mart "Flexon" rod and Roddy spinning reel. The rods were bomb proof but the reels packed up pretty quick. While I prefer to fly fish, I don't pass judgement on any ones choice of fishing style. It's all fishing and fun. If it's legal, it's OK.
Pity that you lost your float on that snag. Did you have a lighter hook length, a couple of pounds less than your main line? Usually, if you get snagged, you will then only lose a hook and the short hook length.
    Always enjoy watching your videos.
    Cheers,
    Steve

Thanks for that! I agree. Yes, I should've had a lighter link below the float. Rigged in a hurry and forgot. Bugger!

Chunk of crawler and a yellow cheese marshmallow on the running sinker has always served me well.
Sometimes I even use a little worm blower just to keep it floating if I lose my marshmallow.
Although I'm not sure if that really works all that well or it's just a gimmick, but it's worth it for all the weird looks I get

Excellent vid Steve. Just as you displayed bait fishing can be as ‘active’ as other forms if you put thought into the conditions.

I still do a little bit of bait fishing especially when things are slow on the Nepean 5-7kg carp are common & great fun on light gear fight alot harder than impoundment ones & even still have fun getting herring for chumsickles or school jewie baits when that random mullet hits when herring fishing how can you not smile

I still can't figure out how trout fishermen are able to hold on to those slippery buggers so easily
I've been catching fish my entire life and I don't think I have ever grabbed a trout like that without it slipping out of my hand at least once!

    • @StarloGetsReel

They can be a bit slippery, that’s for sure. 👍

@@StarloGetsReel how cool, few hundred kays south of me, gods country. I'll have to explore and see if there's places near the illawarra/shoalhaven for trout.

Notice you change fishing line when U was bait fishing

Two different outfits, James. When I snapped the float rig off on my longer rod, I swapped to the other, shorter set-up and rigged the running sinker on that. Well spotted! 😉
