I forgot to include my water/stream thermometer. Very important for summertime trout fishing! Did I miss anything else? Is there any gear I should add to my arsenal?
After a few times being seriously stuck in silt or having trouble climbing out over steeper banks, I recently acquired a collapsible trekking pole. I haven't actually used it yet but consider the extra bulk from carrying it with me a worthwhile safety precaution.
You should take a look at the Hammer Industries zingers, they're perfect for nets and forseps :D I ended up getting a couple small ones and a large one, they make a world of difference when you spend many hours on the water!
When I really started fishing less then a year ago, I saw one of your videos and you were using a pair of fingernail clippers. I thought that was a great idea, it's the single most used tool in my pack.
I got a St. Croix light fast action trout 6,4 inch for Christmas. Loving it so far. Planning on buying another St. Croix rod for redfish down in Florida. Great rod. I also like daiwa and Shimano reels.
I have used quite a many of abu Garcia and have had very bad luck with their reels there rods seem fine I even have a custom Abu Garcia rod a friend of my dad did for him my dad does not like long rods and it is an 8ft
I love my Pfluger President reel. It's the smoothest I've ever had. I also have a thin pair of wire cutters instead of nail clippers. I can get closer to the knot when cutting off the tag end of the line. After saying that, I know that convex edge clippers exist too.
What rod and reel setup would you recommend for tiny Trout Magnets, Spinners, salmon eggs and spoons? I have a Stradic 1000 that’s looking for a nice rod.
I need to get some P Line Fluorocarbon but man it's pretty expensive... I'm using P Line Florescent Rightnow and it's decent.. I need to grab me A ultralight Rod soon
Beginner fisherman here. I’d love a video or advice on putting straight fluorocarbon on my reel. I heard there’s right and wrong ways to get it on there and don’t wanna mess it all up. This was very helpful tho, thank you
SE trout fishing; Happy Birthday to you Sir, I'll have # 76 in another month if the Lord doesn't come and the Crick doesn't rise before then. Hope you get your Birthday wishes.
Very informative. Thank you. I can't believe those boots are 10 years old. $150 for something that will serve you well for 10 year.... very smart investment))
It's thanks to your videos that I'm hooked on the BGs and the St croix rods. They are such excellent combos for any type of fishing! I wish they would release a BG in 1000 but the 1500 works so well! Great tips on the gaiters and neoprene socks, you know the advice is legit when it comes from the hawk! :D
It's seeming as though I went overkill with the St Croix Avid 7' one piece and Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 2500 FB HG I bought and use. We have the same net though.
I use my Swiss Army Evolution S54 instead of many small individual tools. I use a hemostat rather than long pliers. Otherwise we're on pretty much the same page.
Thanks for sharing your "tools" of the trade with us. Question; If I go out and purchase these exact same products, will I be able to catch fish like you do 🙄😏 ? Just joking around with you. I've actually got some very decent tackle, no waders or hip boots though. I'm not too steady on dry ground, I wouldn't trust myself to actually get in and wade in the water. I do love to fish for Trout though and, I need to get out there and wet a line. Again, thanks for sharing another great and informative video with us.
Might want to look into idea of waders. Not to steady on slippery rocks that is a given, but being able to get around that one bush/tree is worth the fuss. Take and use a walking stick to help steady yourself. Myself I fish the Beach and yeah turned my back on water and landed on but a few times, just use caution to watch my step more. Knee deep is fairly safe. FH does make/put together some great stuff in his videos.
Yeah waders are good to get to some trout but if not able to wade don't consider buying waders I got a cousin with the same problem he stumbles on dry land as well so not alone my friend
@@wvlife5193My main problem is I have Peripheral Neuropathy in my feet from diabetes. No feeling. Even while walking outside I use a cane. This really puts a dampener on fishing and hunting. Oh well, IF I had taken care of my body like I knew to do, there's a chance I could have avoided this disease. No tears but, lots of regrets.
I love p-line line too. How do you put the line on your reels? I put the spool with label facing up in warm water, it totally helps keep the line straight. Did you ever make a video on how you do it?
Thank you Hawk for all the awesome content! Getting fired up for trout fishing here in Wisconsin! I will definitely be ordering some apparel soon, keep up the amazing content! Fish on!!
Personally I run things a bit lighter it seems; G•Loomis GLX TSR 801-2 which is a 6'8" ultralight, mated with a Stratic CI4+ 1000, running 4lb mono chasing browns and bows. I regularly use jerkbaits (a solid half are rapala originals but I have some other stuff for hitting deeper areas that look good, but not as much) mostly 05s and 07s in fast water. I keep drag pretty light and take my time. Obviously smaller stuff for brookies, which are always fun. I've been finding, for my area anyway, I have a lot of luck with small spoons as well, and less luck with spinners. I still have some vibrax that I can't seem to stop buying lol. Anyway, I loved this video man, thanks for taking the time to put it all together! I need a wider selection of poles for specific waters I hit, but it's hard to hide the growing collection from the wife. 🤣
Very cool, I’ve based a lot of my gear off of what you use haha. Do you usually carry a lip gripper? I know you’ve run across the odd walleye. Those are some dang big spools of line! I’d love for a terminal tackle video, take a peek at your collection:) Thanks for the fun watch Fish Hawk.
Always great videos! Favorite fishing channel because I’m from Western PA. So I fish in a similar climate so your videos are always informative and fun.
Went fishing today and just stocked my local lake and creek but water was too high for the creek so I fished the lake didn't catch anything but hoping to go tomorrow and try again P.S fish onnnnnnn baby
Thanks for the equipment review. In the summer, I wet wade. I've been thinking about getting waders for the winter. However, there are a lot of thorny bushes around here and I'm afraid they'll tear holes in the waders before I even get to the water. Have any experience with getting through thorns to fish? How do your waders hold up?
Y'know what I need to go trout fishing? A six foot ultralight rod spooled with 6 lb test, some #6 wire hooks, a bag of split shot, and a cup of worms. Done.
