    1. The annual fee is increasing FROM $250 TO $325 (i.e. an increase of $75)

    4. NEW CREDIT 1: $84 Dunkin Donuts credit, issued as $7/mo.
    5. NEW CREDIT 2: $100 Resy credit, issued as $50 semiannually.
    6. The 4X Restaurants category will be limited to $50,000/yr. of spend, then 1X beyond that until it refreshes the following year.
    7. Both Milk Bar and Shake Shack will be removed as partners for the $120 Dining Credit. Five Guys will be added.
    8. The $120 Uber Cash benefit ($10/mo.) will remain unchanged

    Bottom line for me is that I would never pay $300+ for a card with no lounge access.
    And a $7 Dunkin credit? How random is that? That sounds like something that The Onion would publish to satirize Amex's runaway coupon book strategy. What, no $5 7-11 Big Gulp credit? How about a $4 Taco Bell Chalupa credit?

    • @ColoringKaria
      @ColoringKaria หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      $7 is not enough for a custom drink and sandwich but too much for just one or other. It’s an amount almost promised that the customer will spend their own money in addition to the credit. It’s kind of evil genius.

      It's worth it still. Amex points game is strong as hell still and this, though a really watered down version of itself, still worth it in a lot of cases. I also think amex everyday preferred can replace it potentially though. The sub if you don't have it and retention offers can make this easily still worth it though.

    $50 semi-annually is not as bad as I thought. We don't have any close restaurants on Resy, but $50 could be a meal out in the city once every 6 months. Or on vacation. Dunkin is worth $0 to me. Five Guys and Shake Shack were about the same for me. I think I could still make it work.

  • @chrisbrown8748
    @chrisbrown8748 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    $7 a month in DD credit is good for me as I usually will go there a time or two per month and get a bacon egg and cheese on a English muffin and in Philly that like $5.43 with tax so throw in a coffee and this credit gets me a little breakfast on one of the few days when I don’t cook for myself.

  • @jdepina168
    @jdepina168 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    I already have the Gold card and earned a 90k point SUB. I prefer Starbucks. But I live in walking distance of Dunkin' and won't have any trouble utilizing the credit to get a free coffee and food item once a month. There are plenty of Resy Restaurants in my city and many are favorites that I frequent organically. So honestly, I can maximize all of the new credits for an effective negative annual fee.

      There's no cost to sign up for a Resy account and get the app. Also, many reservations have no cost, but peak reservations are based on demand pricing. Those can range anywhere from $2 to around $50, and users can book tables as close to an hour before seating time for brunch and dinner.
      Per the terms on the link above, eligible purchases that trigger the $50 Resy credit include "purchases made directly from U.S. restaurants that offer reservations on Resy.com and the Resy app."
      As I understand that, yes, it should work toward the cost of your meal.

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The only downgrade option from the Gold Card is going to the Green Card (currently a $150 AF). You can either call Amex via the # on the back of your card or chat online from your Amex account and ask to product change to the Green Card.
      And should you decide to cancel instead, as long as you have at least 1 other Amex card open that earns Membership Rewards points, then you'll keep those points from expiring.

    $7 Dunkin’ Donuts is so random and stupid. I’m all about using credits easily. Why choose Dunkin over Starbucks. I don’t go to either but I find myself looking at Starbucks than Dunkin out in the wild. I can’t even remember that last time I’ve seen a Dunkin, maybe 10+ years ago?
    Also a $325 AF card not providing any airport lounge access is stupid. They turned this card into a card only for the rich who don’t care about the perks and can afford to just keep it.

    Looks like I will be canceling my gold card. Would transferring your points to Hilton for future travels be the best move since you get double the points? What would you recommend?

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely not. The transfer ratios don't communicate the value you get. A 1:2 ratio does not mean getting double value. That's because points and miles all have different values based on the program. For example, by default, 1 Hyatt point is worth about 3 Hilton points on average.
      I recommend watching my intro to transfer partner video to understand that world better: th-cam.com/video/ae1WayyrwnE/w-d-xo.html

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In most situations, no. With Amex, it's one bonus, per card, per "lifetime."
      However, a "lifetime" is generally only as far back as Amex's system will look. There are data points that this may only be 4-5 years.
      So it's possible to get the bonus again, but not likely in a short timeframe.

    My friend spends over $300k on his gold card a year on restaurants... So that cap is probably for someone like him. I honestly didn't believe he spends that much but he showed me, not to mention he had over 15 million points when he showed me(I thought 1.5mil but I miscounted the numbers). He eats out every day lunch/dinner meals ranging from 50-1k per meal. So I can imagine him being pissed about this lol. But again only reason he has the gold card. As he also has centurion card but it offers almost no benefits for points, I find certain rich people like getting things for free so this is their way with points. Also its not his money, his grandpa died and left all of the kids 20-40million in trust funds and all the grand kids even more. He also told me he doesn't spend any of his points as they have a family competition on who has the most points. Ahh to be so rich.

    So Resy Credit is not for me. I would not eat at a Resy restaurant normally as they are too expensive, and there are not any in the town I live in. Could I use the Dunkin credit? Sure, but I haven't gone to Dunkin for about a year. So to call it regular spend would simply not be true. The dining credit was always a pain to use for me. The fact is I live in a rural area which means I am not their target customer at all. They want urban dwellers, which is why the Dunkin make sense as it is a popular breakfast stop for commuters.
    I have a card that will get me 4% on Dining and Grocery that has no annual fee. (Verizon Visa) Since the new credits are not useful for me, and the outsized value for Amex points is international travel, which I don't do, I can no longer justify holding this card. I'm just not their target demographic. I'll hold on to my Hilton Surpass as my main travel card if I want to build up points as I have no problem using those credits.
