Thanks for sharing, bought my first ever Milwaukee last week, but I'm just a DIY lover. The High Output 3.0 looks very appealing.

I really enjoy the HO 3.0 because it has a little bit wider of a base than a standard battery. And it really does help it stand up straight, there is one thing that can be annoying though with the 3.0 and that’s how far out it sticks in the front, for example, if you’re using a short 2 inch bit with an impact driver, you can sometimes hit the battery first before you’re done driving a screw which is annoying. But if you get the longer bets which I actually like a lot, you don’t have that problem.

@@kennethkuhlman8864 Thanks for sharing! I did notice the HO 3.0 is quite a bit beefier than the 2.0, and since what I bought was an impact wrench I should really take the overall length into consideration.

In my case, only having 6.0s, 5.0s, a 9.0 and a 12.0, having a 3.0 is a blessing on an impact lol which I just bought today got a 2 pack for 80$

I wish Milwaukee would design an M18 battery to fit flush/near flush with the baseplate of the driver. The 3.0 batteries often stick out further than the bit I’m using. It’s like they put so much effort into making every part of the tool compact and then said “f*** it” when it came to the battery, defeating the purpose.

Thank you so much for this very detailed analysis. I was so confused about the size and shape of the high output CP3.0 battery because I was hoping it was the exact same size as the 2.0 battery. One thing about the M18 tools, is they have the perfect small diameter, very comfortable handle design that is very comfortable; but once you install an XC or 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0 battery into the M18 tools, they are very heavy. I think the perfect tool is the M18 tools with the 2.0 battery, it's absolutely the perfect tool weight. With the bigger batteries, it feels like it's more difficult to control tiny drill bits?
I just purchased the #2732 circular saw M18 with 7 1/4" blade--they are on sale at Home Depot and come with a free CP6.0 battery. The 3.0, the 6.0, the 8.0 and the 12.0 are all a different battery chemistry and they produce higher voltage and higher amperage, they are the "High Output" batteries. They are significantly different, they aren't even in the same class, although Milwaukee hasn't made this very clear to consumers. They don't really tell consumers anything, but Milwaukee has 3 completely cells in their 3 different M18 battery lines, with the new "Forge" being a high output, and also a "Pouch Cell" technology, which is a first for Milwaukee. Torque Test Channel" on TH-cam shows an increase in measured torque that is quite dramatic when switching to one of the "High Output" batteries, and also they show the inside cells in the new M18 Forge batteries.

I'm ok with the 3.0 batteries. They've been great performing batteries compared to the larger ones...runtime for their size.

How does the run time between these 2 batteries? Not concerned about power output because I am using it in a heated jacket.

The 3.0 will have more runtime.

I use the 3.0 in my almost all of my tools, the run time is a lot better than the 2.0. I’d say it almost twice the amount of time for me(both of my 2.0 and 3.0 are new). Definitely worth the extra money if you can find a sale on them!

3.0 is as strong as the 5.0 but last less time
