Having heard Martinet perform in a couple other voice acting parts, I feel pretty confident in saying even if that doesn’t 100% sound like Mario, it 100% sounds like Martinet to me.
EDIT 8/21- The poor aging of this comment does not upset me even a fraction as much as Martinet stepping down from the role.
Same! That's what I was thinking. The voice sounds a little different but still like Charles Martinet.
sounds alot like Mario Galaxy Mario as Mario's voice in Galaxy was higher
Man! What a great comparison to a game that hasn't had a sequel for a long time since the Wii. How great would it be if they made a Super Mario Galaxy 3 for either the Switch or the next Nintendo along with a "Super Mario 3D Maker" to create courses in 3D space. Don't you think it would be cool?
I agree matey
Don’t understand why everyone’s being weird about this. Mario’s voice varies even game to game. I’ve played this video back a few times and the clips in wonder sound like Mario to me. It’s just new recordings, maybe with some new software. Also there’s the fact that the NSMBU voice clips are taken without background context
Well. Now we know why.
😭
Now it’s official. Charles Martinet is retiring from voicing Mario.
Thanks for everything, Charles. You number one. ❤
As inevitable as death is for everyone, Nintendo knows perfectly well that Martinet's voice is an integral part of Mario's legacy. Yes, there are plenty of imitators online, but he knows these characters better than almost anyone else. Hell, have any of you ever *met* the guy? One of the nicest people in the business (so I've heard)!
That's something fans are going to have to accept that Martinet is getting older (67) and there will come a time when he either retires, or sadly is no longer with us, and in the future Mario and all these other beloved characters voiced by him will be played by someone else. Unless Nintendo decides to use an AI generated Martinet voice and have an AI of him voice Mario for years to come. But that would feel wrong.
@@ranpan6082 I don't even think Nintendo would want to use AI (nor should they).
Obviously, the best course of action would be to simply replace him when the time comes.
@@TeamSoraPresents I think personally whether they use an AI would have to depend on if Charles would be alright with that
I have met the guy at a convention along with the voices of Peach and Bowser. He's a really easy guy to talk to and even said he wants to voice these characters until the day he dies. I just feel its his old age catching up to him along with the fact that he's finally having to record new lines after so many years of Nintendo reusing the same voice clips. It still sounds like Martinet and Mario to me despite what everyone else thinks.
@@The_Ostrich Why should he dial back the fanboy in him? Is it necessary?
Charles Martinet did said in one interview that he will always love to continue voicing Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Baby Mario & Baby Luigi, in his whole life until he was drop dead.
That's dedication if I've ever seen it.
Was the same with Jack Mercer, Popeye's voice actor who voiced him for 50 years till passed away a year after Robin Williams movie which he was in at the start as the Cartoon Popeye.
Same thing with Goku’s Japanese VA too. I love the dedication
@@ClassicSonicSatAmThat's cool.
@@RandoGruntAs well as Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, Gary Chalk as Optimus Prime/Primal, and Frank Welker as Megatron and Fred Jones from Transformers and Scooby-Doo respectively.
the voice clips for mario definitely sound a bit different, but i feel if they were actually using a different VA the difference would be bigger. Even big name VAs have to do multiple takes to get the right tone, so if these are new voice lines it would make sence for the voice to sound slightly different despite it being the same guy
You are severely underestimating actors. If it was really a sound-a-like you could have never noticed the difference.
@@baggelissonicdamn you was super right
This didn't age well
r/agedlikemilk
What about Odyssey? Mario sounded slightly different there too. So it's highly possible that Nintendo just decided to re-record voice effects for appropriate new releases. Standard procedure that didn't cause a lot of concerns but somehow is doing it today.
Because they need to make like 10 videos a day and so they need to milk dry every little bit of extremely slight "controversy" they can find.
Wowie zowie is a new voice line for Mario!
@@DANCERcowlook at that, Luigi beat Mario to something. You go, green stache
i think people are more worried after charles didn't get to play mario in his movie. so it's now becoming a question of how long is charles martinet going to stick around
@@Alfonso162008Hey, this wouldn’t even be a topic for them to be able to milk if Nintendo fans weren’t so pissy about the possibility of Mario’s voice changing
Aight it’s confirmed 😔
I think Mario's voice in Wonder is still played by Martinet, only instead of using what he already recorded, it was decided to record again and that's it
That’s what I’m saying
At least we're finally getting new voice clips the last time Mario and Luigi got new voice clips was in Luigi's Mansion 3 back in 2019 5 years ago
@@gamerman95482019? 5 years ago?
Considering just how much of an overhaul this is for the 2D Mario series, it would make a lot of sense that they wanted to add more to the feeling of a fresh start by recording new voice lines
@@brolytriplethreat That's right I'm so happy that the character's that talk are getting new voice clips because I was so tired/annoyed that Nintendo just uses recycled voice clips from past Mario games mainly Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and what they did with the intro for Mario Tennis Aces where you can hear Waluigi say "He walks funny" which makes no sense because there was no one else present with him and Wario and the "He walks funny" voice clip was from Mario Power Tennis where he was referring to the way Bowser walks and at the end Mario says "Luigi" in a happy tone and his mouth doesn't move.
I just love that Mario is now saying ZOWIE!
It’s so dumb and unexpected it rolls back around to being great. I hope it’s now just one of his go to lines in every game now going forward, just like Wahoo and Mamma Mia
It reminds me of the "wowie zowie" he did for Luigi's Mansion 3 when Luigi sees the inside of the hotel for the first time
it's a nice funny line, I like it
@@fabby2998 I had a bit of a lol when Luigi said that in LM3. I'm kinda surprised Mario says it too -- kinda hoped it would be just a Luigi thing.
@@fabby2998 that’s exactly what he said 😊
I might be wrong but I think I already heard that sound in Super Mario Galaxy 2, in a different pitch of course
MARIO DOES NOT SOUND DIFFERENT! PEOPLE SAY THAT BECAUSE THEY'RE PROBABLY USED TO HEARING RE-USED VOICE CLIPS OF HIM!
P.S. I put it in caps so people can see it, not because i'm mad lol
Bruh. Ain't no way people coming back to this comment to say i was wrong, it ain't that deep LMAO
Based
I agree. Plus I think he confirmed that he said he's gonna continue to voice mario and the other characters long ago
i met him a couple weeks ago and he sounded exactly like his old voice. Not this one tho.
Yeah, I think so too
Fr
To me, it just sounds like martinet is doing the Mario kart 8 take on the voice where it's higher
Hearing again this Energetic Voice For Mario is like going all the way back before Mario Galaxy when Mario actually Sounds More Happy and Loud, not like in MK8 where they High Pitched Mario Voice Clips for some reason
That’s true actually. He did have a higher pitch back then
I literally misread that mk8 is like mortal Kombat 😂
I have a theory. In the files for the sound clips in mk8, some of the clips have mk64 in the name. Are these clips perhaps unused recordings meant for Mario kart 64? It would explain the energy behind them.
I know Charles Martinet is still voicing Mario! It’s just he’s getting old and he’ll sound different than usual. Plus, I think he likes voicing Mario and others.
met him a couple weeks ago and he sounds like he does in the older games so that’s wrong
@@Roxleton Maybe the acoustics were off in the studio? Maybe he was under the weather when he recorded? Maybe the audio mix wasn’t optimized? He doesn’t sound the same as the old recycled clips, but that absolutely IS Charles Martinet and I honestly can’t believe that there’s people who think otherwise
His voice hasn’t really changed despite getting older though. He sounds more like Mickey in this new game trailer
@@juansanchez209 and what are the chances of any of that happening?
According to an interview, he said that he'll be voicing Mario until the day he dies.
So, you can say that he REALLY loves to voice em'.
It’s most likely because Martinet is getting older, and that his voice is changing a bit
That would have been the good ending
Martinet has given voice to the franchise for so long. It was inevitable, but it is still saddening to see him go.
I know Charles Martinet will be replaced eventually, but I don’t think that time has come quite yet. Even though Mario sounds a little different in the Super Mario Bros. Wonder trailer, it still very much sounds like the Mario we know and love.
Welp. This comment aged like milk
He’s still sounds like Mario. Not exactly but still there
Please leave me alone
incorrect.....at least imo...I feel like at this point they have enough voice samples to keep the voice the same even if the unthinkable should happen...is it the best idea?.....probably not but it stays iconic
bro was right
Damn, coming back to this video after all the news, so many people denied that Charles wasn't going away from Mario.
But here we are.
I remember Martinet talking about what would happen if he passed. He says he records new Mario lines almost daily for when he passes. It’s possible that some of these new lines are some of those clips.
I still think he’s got it in him to perform great. My theory is that this was Martinet’s more casual take of Mario since he’s recording whatever he feels like from the comfort of his home.
I imagine him just screaming every word in the dictionary in-case Nintendo needs it for a game title opening.
@@joeyvg07 i think that’s the bear minimum
Martinet has been voicing Mario since the late 90s. Almost 30 years nonstop. His voice is going to show differences. The Mario movie could've just done a ton of retakes and maybe some editing as well.
I'm not opposed to Mario getting a new voice actor as martinet is getting older, he can't voice Mario forever. Let's just enjoy our time with martinet in the role for the foreseeable future.
Thank you took took the words right out of my mouth same could say the same with sonic roger craig smith won't be able to voice the character forever but well that make the game bad hell no if anything the game can still be good even without the original voice actor which keep in mind sonic has always his voice changed throughout the years so for me you won't come into surprising same could say charles martinez its been 30 years now and he has gotten older so it may sound a bit different
Sonic's at least had several different voice actors over the course of his lifespan, so that franchise is no stranger to different voices. Heck even characters in the Mario universe have had different voices over the years. I'm not too worried about Martinet's eventual successor doing a good job with Mario whenever that happens.
Maybe it’s because Nintendo finally decided that it was time for Martinet to record new audio.
As a little example, despite Kenny James becoming the new voice of Bowser in 2007, many spin-offs still used the Scott Burns Bowser voice clips until around 2009. This was likely because they needed time to amass enough voice clips of Kenny’s Bowser.
Charles or Not, I don't think this is evidence. Otherwise, "Too much? it's-a-perfect!" would have also sounded off. Charles uses the voice pretty frequently so If these are new voice lines, they shouldn't sound too different than performances he's done recently. Personally I didn't notice and don't know if I believe it or not.
I feel like either the lines in the game aren’t final because lines haven’t been recorded yet, although this is unlikely since the flowers literally have voice acting, or Martinet had to change the voice due to age or something. Kinda like Sonic Frontiers. Martinet was pretty vocal about not being Mario in the movie, so I’m sure we’ll hear something soon if anything happened.
Who's here after Charles Martina was announced to be retired
It could also be that martinet was simply given a new direction for mario. After all, the art direction changed drastically too.
Edit: I was wrong :(
Yeah, he was given the direction to retire.
@@worthless_opinion yeah, this didn't age well
I thought your comment was unchanged then I saw read more 😢
A new voice actor is doing the voice of Mario, confirmed.
Considering Martinet started voicing Mario in the mid 90s, I wouldn't be surprised about understudies. For comparison, it took until Mel Blanc's *DEATH* for the majority of the Looney Tunes to get new voices.
Honestly before finding out he was stepping down, I would never have guessed it was a new va. The imitator is doing a good job. That being said, without Martinet we wouldn’t have Mario’s iconic voice. He’s had a long and fruitful career, let the man rest of he so chooses
Why man... We all thought it was Charles... God I'll miss him.
Now its confirmed its not Charles here
Let us not forget Martinet is also getting old and when old age happens the voice changes and becomes weaker. It could still be Martinet but his voice is ever changing as he gets older so it would sound different if they are using his voice to voice new lines
Charles Martinet is retiring! Which is likely why Mario sounds different.
Hail to the king.
is it me or does he sound a lot like lakitu in mario odyssey here
Thank you for shaping our childhood, our dreams, and for becoming an inspiration to several generations and further forevermore to come, goodluck on your next adventure Mr. Ambassador.
Thank you Charles Martinet, *YOU ARE A SUPER PLAYER!!*
I think Charles won’t be recording anymore but he finished Wonder’s voice lines for the next decade.
Nm Nintendo confirmed its a new voice actor
@@Ironclover-Composer Well, but its good tho, because it sounds fine to me.
Don't know why, man, but I saw Charles on a random thumbnail by you guys and had a damn heart attack lol. Glad we're just talking about the voice in general, which, yeah, sounds a bit different.
this vid aged like wine
Really? He sounds like martinet
The one that doesn't sound like martinet is WARIO'S VOICE
After hearing to the new voice lines closely, it sounds like Martinet. I guess he’s getting older and we’re not used to hearing new voice lines after hearing the ones from 2007 over and over.
Well... this sure aged well...
Called it
you can tell it's not charles at "wowie zowie"
Is also possible that they change the pitch in post production in a studio, to make it sound in a higher pitch, and that can change the color of Martinet's voice a little, but it's definitely him.
well you were right
I think it's pretty simple - Charles Martinet has gotten older, and your voice changes with age. He's in his late 60s now and it makes sense that his voice would sounda bit different from lines he recorded in his 50s. A good comparison point is Mark Hammill's early performances as the Joker and the more recent ones he did.
If anything, Mario is sounding more like Mario from the GameCube era, in my personal opinion. Mario’s voice was a little higher pitch and a little more energetic. But after years of hearing the current Mario voice, it’ll take time for many people to get used to what it was.
Welp, this aged well!
yeah official announce charles retired mario voice...
If only we had known
well darn, retirement explains why..
we’ll miss you, mr. martinet
Wario was definitely the one that stood out to me the most, but if that wasn't the voice used in the game, then I can believe that Martinet is still gonna voice these characters for a while longer
If only we knew…
Well it looks like we got our answer!
Just read the news of Charles Martinet stepping down from voicing Mario, so maybe Mario's voice in Wonder is from unused/recycled voice lines or someone new.
Regardless, it sucks that Martinet won't voice Mario anymore, but he's earned his retirement. And as long as the new Mario voice isn't Chris Pratt, I'll be fine with a sound-alike going forward.
I hope Charles still voicing mario
He is
Y'all notices that he has a Twitter in social media
I love him voicing Mario, Luigi, and others!
Charles is gone….
Well, they have been reusing the same Mario sounds for about 20 years, so maybe it was hightime they got new sounds from Charles.
Of course, Charles may be retiring, which is understandable, though that news would've broken the internet by now
That is a good point. His voice could be different when he cast new lines.
No
The Mario Wonder voices are also a little hard to hear under the music and sfx. If its not Charles, it's a damn good impersonator. I love that the character are getting little voice clips again, reminds me of Super Mario Advance 'Woo-hoo! Just what I needed!'
That brings back memories of me playing the GBA, I loved hearing the voice lines, I played it again on the Switch Online, love it. I can't wait for Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
From the future here! Charles martinet is stepping down as Mario for game recording lines
Thank you charles
Probably just Martinet showing his age. It’s still him, but it’s just because we don’t often hear him record new lines that new sound effects are unfamiliar.
I don’t think they plan to replace him, especially since he sounded perfectly fine in his Mario movie cameos.
Lmao
the end.
Thank you for 27 years of pure happiness and joy brought to so many people Charles. You are the voice of my childhood and always will be
Finally new voice clips!
Everybody was right.
This aged soooo badly! 😢
Wario in Japanese Warioware games is voiced by Japanese voice actor Hironori Kondoh and 1:43 is his voice.
Fans were smart predicting this one.
Guys I’m pretty sure it’s still Charles but it’s definitely his last game, what a game to end on
👍
Its definitely charles still Nintendo Has just been reusing Charles clips since 2009-2013
There's just giving charles new voice clips
When he turns into the elephant it sound so much like Martinet that I can't believe this is even up for debate.
Chris Pratt and Charlie Day were asked to change their original voices for The Super Mario Bros Movie because they were “a little New Jersey”. The pair voice Mario and Luigi in the new film, an animated adaptation of the hit Nintendo game.
So it is true.
Well, ummm. Yeah. New guy
It would make sense that they would find a replacement in case for the worst, but maybe for the wario thing they probably wanted someone to fill in for Charles while he’s doing the new voice lines for wonder and who knows maybe on full release for the new wario game they’ll add Charles in it for final production.
Looks like he's probably be recast as I read Martinet isn't in this game.
It could still be him, I've listened very closely and I think it's Charles probably recording new lines, The man himself is 67 years old so he's still got it.
Uhhh of course it is it was clear as day that charles martinez hell it was like that with mario odyssey and he did some voice work with the runner games mario sounds the same just a bit deeper
@@raphaelbrown6314 Exactly!
@@raphaelbrown6314LMAO
This didn't age well
Yes it did.
That's what I notice when I first watched the trailer for Super Mario Bros Wonder is the characters voices sounding different notably Mario and Yoshi
These new lines and sound effects do sound pretty different, but I really like them. It makes Super Mario Bros Wonder feel like a completely different installment in the series, which also goes along with the drastically different graphics, music, and power ups.
I can't wait to see the credits of Wonder and Move It to find out who voiced Mario and Wario.
Well….
I thought someone did an interview with him and that he's not going to be replaced and jokingly replied that he'll voice the character until he drops dead. It's almost like that scene from Up where he Carl says to the Construction worker that he can have the house when I'm dead
You can definitely hear Charles when Mario says “Wonderful!”
welp
Yeah now we know why….
It’s funny hearing Mario say “Wowie Zowie” when he picks up the elephant power-up
now the question is answered
i pointed this out too. I think something’s wrong
Maybe we are getting a new voice for Mario after all? Whoever it is still sounds great though, and did a pretty good impression of the character (if it’s not him that is).
I mean he does sound more like cat Mario from SM3DW, which are new voices
I actually like this he sounds a lot more excited and energetic
You were right
it definitely sounds like someone younger, the one line that i think was pretty damming evidence for it was mario saying "hey" when he was being bounced around (the one line they didn't put in the video), i wouldn't be surprised if luigi is still voiced by Charles since Luigi's voice is generally more soft and likely less straining for Charles but it definitely seems like the time for Charles to pass the torch on to someone else, I'm just wondering if they're gonna still have the same person voice both arios and luigis or they're gonna give each character their own voice actor
I'm thinking it's a case of both new lines and possibly new and better recording equipment. He sounds right, just clearer than the old lines they've been using.
Charles is 67 now. He started the role almost 30 years ago. He's bound to sound a little different this much time later, but that's definitely still Mr. Wahoo Man himself.
maybe he did a lighter voice to match the new happy artstyle
That would make sense
I hope he ok
Charles did pretty good on his movie cameo
I noticed!
This was gonna happen sometime soon, if it's him or not we can only be thankful for the amazing memories in all these long years guys
and we can also hope the new VA carries the legacy am I right?
You are. People don’t work and live forever; sometimes change is inevitable and you have to move on.
But there isn’t a new voice actor, it’s just Charles…
