  • Hi Everyone,
    Introducing the new addition to the Retroratchet fleet, the 1997 Audi A4 B5 2.4 SE V6 with a manual box.
    I am trading down from a 2017 Volvo xc90 to this Audi and we will see over the course of the project series how practical it is to daily a car of this age.

    Had a 1.8SE on a P reg. Pre face lift. Was green. The lifestyle colour one. My daughters were very young so happy family memories. I kept it until 2012.

    The kid’s blue jacket matches the leather seats. That’s reason enough to keep it.

    Av had the b5 Audi a4 pretty bulletproof if am honest. The same v6 in the Passat if i remember correctly. They do leak oil from gaskets quite common. I am Currently running a b6 tdi Avant sport 1.9 Tdi PD remapped to 170hp it's my daily. Only problem av ever had was a power steering pipe burst it blew the pump put new one on it searched for a few weeks and got a new pipe from rack to pump. The LCD screen can be fixed easy enough buy the stuff yourself or send it off to be repaired. Make sure the bulk head water drains have been cleaned or it will have standing water. The upper control arms tend to make them wander around when worn. The pinch bolt in the upper control arms tends freeze with rust lots of heat and plenty of lubrication it will come out. Abs be due to the wheel bearing. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍

      Cheers mate, ill check those drains out when i detail it, done the timing belt (vid to come) cv boot and service next on list!

    I had one of these as a company car, back before we were all forced into diesels by the tax changes. That shot of the back seat takes me back. Worst rear cabin space of its class, lol Didn't bother me as a young single dude. I remember it being easy to park, comfy, and looked great when it was clean (mine was black). Great build quality. A fuel card meant I cant even remember what mpg I got as I didn't care, you paid the same BiK tax regardless. Happy days.

      @RetroRatchet  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah they are tiny in the back, happy days when there was interesting company cars to be had!

    I bought a 1989 100 e 2.2 auto in 2003 and ran it for 6 years. It failed to start ONCE, after the bodyshop forgot to tighten the battery terminal ......youse nae a bampot, it'll go for years😁

      @@RetroRatchet I miss it terribly....I thought it had terminal rust issues with the bulkhead so reluctantly scrapped it, as the wife wanted something dry inside.....3 months after it had gone, I read on an audi forum that if the "duckbeak" plenum chamber drain thingy gets easily blocked and as it fills up the water goes guess where....I can only say that distraught totally fails to describe how I felt, because the entire drive train from engine down was behaving perfectly......sob😁

    Lovely rare find, Ming Blue? my mate has a 1998 S4 in the same colour. B5's were the last properly built B platform, B6/B7 went downhill especially for rustproofing.

    I have the a6 c5 avant with this engine its a great engine capable of launching my a6 c5 fwd tiptronic from 0-60 in 7.2 seconds really good for a 1.6 tonne car also these engines make way more power than factory claim on paper they have 170HP 230NM but they exually make a solid 200HP 285NM wich is really good and you can chip tune them with a ecu tune and airfilter you can get a extra 40HP 55NM a audi 3.0 V6 ASN has around 250HP 350NM and your 2.4l v6 with ecu tune will have 240HP 340NM wich is only 10HP 10NM less than a 3.0 v6 from audi and then your making 100HP per litre

      @@RetroRatchet just an old 1997 A4B5 1.9 tdi, nothing special like an S4.
      Personally being 24 and driving a 90’s car just feels like a time capsule I love it

    That warning you got i think it is a bulb or wash wiper fluid low. I have a audi s3 8l 2000 which has the same dash set up. Yellow warnings are normally bulb related or wash wiper fluid anything serious would be red

    The missing my matrix led display can be sent off to get fixed - not expensive..
    A fair bit of white smoke when you first drove off - did the coolant level drop? Also saw some light blue smoke as it was warming up... But at the mileage it shouldn't be engine wear..

    • @RetroRatchet
      @RetroRatchet  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hey, yeah I seen a vid on the matrix repair, if I hold onto it, ill get it done,
      I think the white was just condensation, was super cold up here, coolant spot on so far, I might have an explanation for that puff of smoke on next vid, watch this space!
