  • ( www.brightonfo... ) The 5.0L Coyote V8 is back for 2021 in the Ford F-150. It's still a powerful alternative to those who prefer an eight-cylinder option over the EcoBoost V6, and here's how you can spec your own.

      Thank Chrysler, Jeep Dodge and Ram, because Ford was writing V8's off. Ford was absolutely done with em, they were doing everything in their power to switch everybody too turbocharged small displacement engines, but the absolute massive sales success MOPAR has had with putting giant V8's in their vehicles, cutting into Ford's sales significantly, has made ford rethink their whole ecoboost master plan.
      And besides all that, the ecoboost engines have been underperforming, underdelivering, overpromised unreliable piles of junk.

      @@FeatheredDino Ford sells a million trucks a year, ram isn't cutting into their sales very much at all. The ecoboost engines are as powerful or more powerful than the 5.7L, better gas mileage, probably more reliable. Soon as that hemi eats a cam (as they're known for) its done too

      @@BullittKid08 I'd agree that fiat Chrysler isn't known for quality, but we have no idea how the ecoboosts will age. The very oldest eb are about 10 years old. Every other vehicle here is a 15-20 year old truck. We'll see if the ecos join them in the next decade

    • @jamesalexander958
      @jamesalexander958 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @asteinmann well 10 years are the oldest and there's been problems with them. If the turbos break, you're talking about a lot of money into an older vehicle.
      Yeah agree unfortunately oil companies say like every 10,000 miles between changes. Maybe in a lab or all freeway miles, but most people should change it twice a year (what I do) if they drive a normal amount of miles. And save a ton by doing it yourself, which is a piece of cake for a truck

      @friday1941 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@FeatheredDino The only thing Ram had on ford was interior and now Ford stepped up their game. Other manufactures had nothing to do with Ford keeping the engine. Ram has been cutting into GM sales more than Ford. But with the new F150 those days of cutting into ford sales might be over.

      @@davidporter7051 the first thing you want to do for maximum fuel economy is get the revs down. The 4 cylinder engine in my brother's Ranger is a 2.3 L4 and lugs at 1200rpm while the 4.6 in my Thunderbird doesn't at 900.
      Low revs allow lots of time to burn AF mixture with so less timing advance is required reducing back work and giving highest Mean Effective Pressure. If the engine is cold it will cause more heat transfer to the engine warming it up instead of going out the exhaust reducing cold start enrichment time. An engine in cold start enrichment usually burns 3 times as much fuel than when hot and running.

I now have my afm disabled thanks to the aftermarket... ford guys just look up afm/ dod problems on sierra/ Silverado... my truck was using 1 quart of oil every 2500 miles, luckily I didn't have lifter failure like alot of people. I bought a 2019 F-150 XLT 5.0 new. I have enjoyed the engine. I have left the exhaust stock which is fine. Mileage is actually decent when everything is considered. I do have the 3.73 rear end. So less a little mileage. Better power. Cylinder deactivation? Wow! I am honestly fighting shy of that. The auto stop/start is enough in my opinion. I do honestly feel that this engine has maybe 3 more years. We’re lucky that they kept it.

      LOL I thought I was reading my own comment when I read yours yes this is how Ford rips people off they give you a garbage spec truck and for just three or $4000 you can get a quite nicely specked out with accessories or you get a piece of garbage like this that is yes not worth a penny more than 33,000 that would be the max I would get for this truck so you’re forced to spend three or four more for a bunch of accessories that cost $500 but will have a much better resale value...

      Gm doesn't have issues with cylinder deactivation anymore. That was the pre 2014 versions. Anything after 2014 are different engines and the system was improved. The #1 cause was lack of oil changes and/or not keep it topped of as the lifters are all oil activated. It also didn't help that full synthetic wasn't a requirement either. Better oils and updated tech pretty much solves the problems
