  • Being unable and too impatient to purchase the X100v, I recently purchased an X100 to see if it could fill the void in my consumeristic heart. This video talks about what I like and dislike, while showing some of the images Ive taken with this camera.

I recently hacked my X100s to get more film simulations, including Classic Chrome, Acros, Classic Neg, and custom LUTs like neon noir. I need to write up a tutorial (stay tuned!) but keep the camera on the shelf, it honestly breathes new life into the thing what you can do with customizable film sims.

O that’s very very cool. I ended up buying an x100v at an amazing price with 700 shots on it, the evening before my trip. I’ll be shooting with it all month in Australia and love it so far.

Hey Philip! Could you elaborate on this hack you’re talking about? I have the original x100, not the x100s, but having classic chrome and classic neg on it would be a game changer.
Thanks for your answer in advance!

I have my late dad's black paint X100 he bought in 2012. He took about 25,000 photos with it. I have an X100V, but I'll *never* sell it. It's a memory of my old man. And let me say, I shoot it exclusively in Mono+R, +1 to shadows and highlights with a 20% cinebloom filter. It's perfect. My daughter uses it a lot. My only rule is she doesn't lose it.

It's crazy how Fujifilm is having it's boom right now. All their gear has skyrocketted in price and I'm constantly seeing videos on the X-E1. It's kinda funny to see the hype since throughout college I was the Fuji hipster with the XE1, XT1, and X100S. Now everyone's hyped for those again and justifiably so. That original sensor is just so freaking good. What made me sell the X100S and later X100F was the lack of a flip screen. I just can't go without one

    • @TheWeddingGuest.
      @TheWeddingGuest.  ปีที่แล้ว +3

I fully agree with the "hipster" association. I never really gave Fuji cameras the time of day until recently. The lack of flip screen isn't a deal breaker for me as I primarily shoot with the viewfinder but I can understand the situational uses of one. Having a flip screen would save me from awkwardly squatting for those low angles.

i have had the X100 for 10 years ... my take is its B+W is its party trick ... put it in b+w and just shoot
and then things happen ... as for focus just press and hold and it just does its own thing!
its so dated but when you twist the dials to achieve a shot .. and it comes off ... its very rewarding.

If you need it in 4K there are settings to get you close and a software program to upscale 1080 to 4K and I can’t tell the difference. You can pick them up for a few hundred dollars used. Great video. I've had my x100 for several years now and it's sill one of my go-to camera, yes it's old and slow but I'm fine with that, I really think its the images this little 12 megapixel camera can produce, many say because it uses the old Bayer sensor, that could be true, there is something about the colors that I don't see with my other fuji cameras. I also love that it has a built-in ND filter how convenient that! I've printed 16x 20 even 18 x 24 and the images look great. There is so much hyped that has been made on the latest model, when older cameras can produce great images if not better. Enjoy and thanks for sharing!

Mate liked and subbed cheers. When the X100 was released I was obsessed, I had to have the camera, I had Nikon and Canon DSLRs and a swag of film gear but this wee Fuji had me pining. Sadly back then I had two kids, a missus, and other commitments blah blah, so I managed to squirrel enough together for a used X100, this was just after the X100s landed. Anyway I soon found the X100 pretty sluggish for what I wanted, so as soon as the T came out I bought that, then killed it in a flash flood, thankfully insurance replaced it with the F, which last year I gave to my old dad, he loves it I miss it, so I've just dug out my X100, see if the loves still there haha. Looking forward to making a few shots with it.

The X100 is a very good camera for it's age. True, it's not the fastest camera but I don't use it for sports, action or bird photography...I have other cameras for that. 12 megapixels is good enough for 8x10 prints...how many people actually print images or even that large? And finally, many people shoot film which is a slower process than using this camera...I'm one of them. Photography should be fun and enjoyable not stressful and fast paced. I think too many people are too concerned about the latest and greatest gear.

Totally agree! The original Finepix X100 is a very good camera. I use mine with back button focus. I've a page about it but can't link to it, so here's the text, if it's of interest to you.
In 2014 I bought a barely used Fujifilm X100 and case for a very reasonable price. Unknown to me, and the seller didn’t go out of his way to tell me, it was from an early batch that had an infamous problem that became known as “sticky blades”.
In their early mirrorless days Fujifilm messed up a few times. Apart from the company making absurd claims about the focussing speed of the X-E1, Fujifilm’s R&D department overlooked faulty shutter blades in the original X-100, and the sensor in the X10 that turned small areas of bright light into weird “orbs”, or “…the peculiar circular, hard-edged appearance of clipped specular highlights” (DPReview, 2012).
I haven’t used my X100 extensively as yet-it lay forgotten in a drawer as some gems do-but it’s likely I’ll be facing the sticky blades problem at some stage. Until then the 2011 X100 impresses me. My style of photography means the focussing speed isn’t a problem. Nor am I bothered by close focussing softness and 12MP images.
Even today the X100 would be a useful travel camera, but I recently discovered its used price is now almost twice what I paid for it in 2014. And if you’re after the X100V (or its successor) you may have to wait.
If you’re getting the original X100, make sure it’s not a unit from the batch manufactured with those bothersome sticky blades!
