my take after owning an x100 for over 10 yrs is set it to B+W and mash the shutter button and let it do its own thing ... which it general gets right with its own touch of magic ...
I'll taking a trip to Japan in April. I planned to bid a X-T2 to take pictures in this trip (with one or two film camera), but it turns out that I didn't win the auction, which makes me REALLY upset. But after watching your video, I think I should give a chance to my old X100. You guys absolutely don't believe it that I bought it in 2021 and only cost about 100 USD! Thanks for this video. It makes me feel better : )
Still my favorite camera. I have 2 of them, the x-pro1 and both ricoh gr3's. The X100 jpegs just look real. Fujifilm created a very special camera with the Finepix. Make sure you update your firmware to 2.11 .
I do low-light with it iso 2000 no problem and i guess when u use a x100 u dont expect toget sharp photos its all about the feel and the user experience ☺️
My late dad bought the black edition in 2012 and took about 25,000 photos with it. When he passed, I kept it -- I knew he favored it over his zoom bridge cam (my bro took that unremarkable Nikon). I have a lot of better cameras -- but yeah, this one is a memory of his hobby. I shoot it in monochrome (+1 on highlights and shadows) or Astia for soft colors, turn off the display/evf and use the OVF, and use a 20% cinebloom filter on the front... it's brilliant for that. Most often f/2 or f/8. Simple and easy. I'll pass it down to my daughter when I pass, whether it works or not -- if inoperative, it's handsome on a shelf always. Is it my X100V? Heck no, but it's fine.
I only used the rangefinder, never the screen. I still believe this sensor, despite the low light lack, produces the nicest film character for stills - i didnt buy it for filming/videography.
No lag or 1 second freezes on my x100, what's the image count on yours? Suspect you have a well used one, mine is still under 1000 images which is mad for a 12 year old camera tbh.
The new Fujifilm X100VI has 7 custom user presets that you can assign 7 different film simulations to such as Kodak Gold 200, Kodak Tri-X 400, Agfa Scala 200 etc, how many custom user presets does the 13 year old original Fujifilm X100 have.
The Original X100 has 8 film simulations in total. Provia Standard, Provia Vivid, Astia Soft, Monochrome, Monochrome + Ye Filter, monochrome + R Filter, Monochrome + G Filter, and Sepia. To the best of my knowledge there is no way to add custom film simulations to the original X100.
An outdated screen …lol what do you expect it’s an old camera as you said ..oh and the lag you were moving the camera around in poor light ..it’s not good in poor light as you said 🤦♂️ Oh and I have one and love it’s simplicity ..it’s a camera that makes you slow down and I love it’s simplicity ..it produces great JPEG’s
Sorry, no rangefinder here. The X100 has an "optical viewfinder" as well as an "electronic viewfinder." Rangefinder focussing is a completely different operation. Research Leica M cameras for example, rangefinder focussing utilizing a rangefinder "patch."
@@MatthewSnyderPhoto No worries. For what it's worth, I recently traded my X100T which I owned since new for this camera. Reason? The files from this X100 EXR CMOS sensor look so much more natural than the later X100 X Trans CMOS sensor versions, at least to me. Also, I can accept going backwards in technology with a few less technical features for the overall look of these files. I use it whole heartedly for street, travel etc., Slower autofocus performance, lower res screen etc., is not an issue for me. It's the output that counts and I only need the JPEG's for this camera (normally I would shoot RAW). Fujifilm got it right with this one.
@@john_murch Oh that’s really interesting! I was wondering why the X100T is constantly cheaper than the original X100. That helps explain it, and I hope you enjoyed the video!
It does actually NOT have Classic Chrome. That is one of the biggest drawbacks for me.

Just bought one for $200 unfortunately with fungus on the lens. Already got a quotation for cleaning around $40. I still think it’s a win.

I own this camera and I love it, I can stick in my pocket and the images are beautiful.
Now THIS is CONTENT
Loved that camera. Dropped it in the Jordan river in Israel😭

You will notices screen lag, AF lag, this lag and that lag if you are using a Sony or Canon as your main camera.
Your point being?
Great video Matthew, really well put together! I wish you get more exposure by time, keep it up brother!!!
5:13 Was that a RAW file or JPG?
That was a RAW image

Haha you’re absolutely right. I should have said “rangefinder-style” instead of rangefinder. Silly mistake on my part!

Great video. I'm hoping to get one for my street photography.
