I pretty much agree with all of it. Especially Dragonborn. Very high up in my heart, but man do they do absolutely ZERO justice to the racial abilities. There's so many in traditional DnD that are just outright missing, and the breath weapon is literally useless due to non existent scaling, unless you're using it to trigger environmental effects, which could probably be more easily triggered by anything else anyway. I straight up downloaded mods that basically gave every race their true racial bonuses, and turned off the once per long rest limit of dragonborn breath weapons, and made it not use up an action.
One small advise about having more dialoge options: If you have the Disguise Self spell, you can get the dialoge options of the race you choose as well. If you later talk to the same person, but without any disguise - or even with a different one on -, they recognise you without a problem though, so it only effect the initial meeting...
@@Kieva_Storm Even the true racial bonus made it as once per a short-, or long rest, and still was an action. The damage would be scaling with your Constitution and get other increasements with your Character Level.
@@adhyanthajay No, don't you know that you don't ask for credit card? You want giftcards (or bitcoin) - back to scammer school (oh, I meant Microsoft certification) with you.
Well, Drow are actually evil, they're cruel and aggressive, they don't like other races, especially other elves due to their religion and culture, so no one likes them too If you want to experience modern racism, you should play as Tiefling, almost everyone treats you normally, but still you think that you're oppressed, if you look at the dialogue options
Speaking of Drow, Viconia owes me years of child support back pay. I marry her in BG2, we have a kid, she gets "assassinated" and then I find her acting all evil in BG3.
"I take offense at anyone clicking this video thinking I'm just going to be participating in some casual racism. No, no this is competitive racism" Best intro ever!!
My rp for first time playing was a teifling warlock cursed to be a teifling by my patron..and then I met mr steal your thunder wyll who literally had the same thing happen. Naturally we solved it via some good old who’s eldritch blast is bigger(his was, I’m a bard now)
Wyll doesn't become a tiefling. He doesn't get any racial abilities of a tiefling. He doesn't even look like one. Tieflings have pointy ears, tails and completely different bone structure than humans. Wyll just looks like a cursed human.
@@SignoftheMagi A cambion is a half-fiend. Wyll's patron Mizora is an actual cambion, powerful enough to grant abilities to a warlock like Wyll. Wyll doesn't gain any abilities because of the physical modifications. He doesn't look like a cambion (those have wings and tails in addition to horns, and are born that way). He doesn't look like a tiefling either, no tail, still rounded rather than pointy ears and completely different bone structure. He looks exactly like who he is - a human with a mild infernal curse placed on his person.
@@velinas_tieflings have a laundry list of random features you can literally roll on a d100 table to decide. The popular depiction just exists cause it's easier for artists to design for. Wyll's look and origin is entirely within the normal range for tieflings attributes. Really the only question is if he can pass on his curse, and if so he's basically just the progenitor of a new tiefling variant.
Drow are by far the most fun in dialog in BG3, especially if youre evil or doing a durge run. As soon as you said "Competetive racism" I knew the drow would be high. Its just what they are good at.
You know in normal DnD I have never really played as a dragonborn all that much because of their lack in racial features which makes it hard to make a build around them. Then in BG3 they just look so awesome it is very hard for me to play anyone but a dragonborn.
@@DoffyDogg I kind of feel like a hypocrite. I feel no guilt for using exploits as they are essentially "part of the base game." Especially for the exploits that survived the Honor Mode culling. As for mods though I am completely opposed as you essentially create new exploits not originally within and it becomes too easy. The fun for me is mastering the exploits already there and tailoring them to break the game that way. Granted, the Dragonborn having better racial features wouldn't necessarily break the game as both are already a part of the original. Its just being able to enjoy the best of both worlds, having an awesome looking character while also enjoying cool racial features. I feel like the half-elf racial features are a good baseline though, not OP of itself but versatile. I'd personally opt to give them the Duergar or Half-Orc features to gain access to some of the best.
@@stanktatiousd7732 personally I just find them to be the most interesting to customize, like hair is cool and all but LOOK, A CREST OF HORNS! it looks cool as fuck
Oh, so this video is okay, but when I decide to do a presentation on the Best and Worst races for my Antropology class everyone loses their mind and I am “Suspended from campus until further notice”. Fucking bullshit 😤
Voice 7 is fine for half-orcs, he still sounds really gentlemanly when he speaks normally but if you're going Dark Urge, Pieter Lawman throws some snarl on lines like "Wretched thing, pull yourself together" that works for me
@@БабаЯга-ш7х I don’t see why not 🤷♂️ Hell, throw in some Asian accents or even Native American or something. I’m personally kinda tired of fantasy being mostly limited to the UK when it comes to accents.
The only thing that hurts me with this game is how no one in the party is a dwarf, halfling or gnome It would actually be fun hav9ng a gnome given Astarions hate for them hell, it could play into him becoming more accepting of them
18:00 you can get Minthara and still be completely good, all you need to do is bonk her in the head with non lethal attacks. Just make sure shes still alive and she'll be recruitable. Its a shame the game doesnt give any hint this is possible.
That’s not all. After knocking her out you have to make sure not to long rest before completing the quest. I made that that mistake and she never appeared after.
@@zariffidachowdhury3664 Just did this today, you knock her out and finish act 1 with as many rests as needed (I had like 8 after). She's recruitable halfway through act 2 at Moonrise Towers- just walk in the main room, vibe to the music, stay neutral when she's interrogated, and save her from the dungeon after- everyone at camp has some neat dialogue about her (and she has a thing or two to say about them). Good luck! 🍀
It probably gives no indication because she was meant to only be recruitable for evil runs. Players whined about not having her on good runs so they changed it, even though they should've accepted the repercussions of playing a good character, the same way evil PCs can't recruit good aligned party members
@@whit9172 I was the one who complained, must have the funny purple lady on every playthrough good or evil. But it was partially caused by a bug, non-lethal attacks were coded as the character being dead instead of unconscious when it came to story progression and quests. It affected other NPCs as well (could knock someone out and fail their quest because of it), but Minthara was the most noticeable one.
The design did gnomes, halflings and dwarfs dirty. Even though Barcus is one of my favorite npcs whom I can't hurt even in my durge playthrough, I can't imagine playing gnome seriously with those proportions.
Honestly it was hilarious. I couldn’t reach shelves sometimes and it made me feel very small and helpless. My tav turning to Astarion with puppy eyes “can you please get that, I can’t reach” I had more fun as a halfling though, femme halflings are some of the cutest in game. And as a storm sorcerer it would make for a terrifying and hilarious sight in battle. This tiny woman calling forth the wrath of talos and decimating everyone.
I adore the fact that golden dwarf barbarian is arguably the best tank in the game. Race HP, class HP, bear subclass that halves the damage, straight up chonky lad. But what makes it the best party tank, is because you don't need high AC. If your AC too high, enemy wouldn't target you that much, leaving more squishy characters voulnarable. But with that type, and advantege on you from reckless attack? They gladly will throw everithing at you, only to find how you laugh your beard out at they feeble attempt to scratch you.
I prefer going tiger barbarian with aspect of the wolverine that way you can choose which enemies to lock down by bleeding them and stopping them from moving. If you can throw them you can even skip their turn
So many items give blade ward through healing i don't think barbie rage is needed. Its easier to manage for sure but i'd say shapeshifter druid with damage resistance is the tankiest class with tons of hp to soak and low enough ac to keep enemies interested and good spells to prep the fights Another amazing tank is dex cleric with light domain and reverberation items. You just run into the fray with 30ac, use flares to deflect what attacks might crit you, nerf the enemies to oblivion with radiant damage (-1 all physical saves per reverberation stack) and blast them off the grid with dex or con save spells such as glyph of sleep or plain old fireball. Cleric can neither get hit or be ignored.
7:27 The Half-Orc is my brother's go-to character. If it weren't so straightforward to play, he probably wouldn't join us. He enjoys a simple playstyle: when he sees strong armor, he puts it on; when he spots a more powerful sword, he chooses that one. He doesn't like to sneak around and typically charges into every situation with enthusiasm. The Half-Orc is a necessary choice for players like him who just want to run in and start clobbering.
Gnome fits my default playstyle best. The bewildered, but generally good-hearted guy who happens to also be knowledgeable, a bit mysterious, and quite unexpected. Didn't jive with a Durge playthrough though. He's a moody half-elf Bard with Twilight/Boy Band vibes. Better fit.
The races with the most role-play ability and race-specific dialogue are really unbeatable, other playthroughs feel boring in comparison (not that they are necessarily)
Just started the vid so I haven't seen the inevitably low rating of dragon born. But I have played 2 of them and the one thing they really get is an insane amount of specific dialogue. It's a shame most people won't see it because dragonborns suck. In tabletop you can be a metallic dragonborn and it's so much better. Straight upgrade
Like no darkvision.... On a DRAGON MAN? you know the creatures that lurk in DARK CAVES full of treasure? The creatures with TREMORSENSE OR EVEN TRUE SIGHT?! so unbelievably stupid I can't even. And they are my favorite race story wise that's why it triggers me so much that they have 0 effort put into them
agree with this list a lot. gith have so so so many unique dialogues. i did a gith run and went full knight of valkeith with laezel. watching the unique interactions was very interesting
I love drow, I made a Drow warlock who turned to being a warlock so he could seek the power to kill as many lolth sworn as possible to avenge them killing his former lover.
My first playthrough was as a gith and I LOVEEEEDDD it but let me tell you DROW HITS SO DIFFERENT Drow is DIFFERENT like it’s a whole new game with Drow I 100% agree with you!!
Human fighter may look basic but beating the absolute living shit out of all kinds of monsters and powerful entities due to your sheer human determination just hits different
My first playthrough was as a half-drow, and honestly im surprised this choice wasnt mentioned in the video when half-elves as a whole were brought up. Drow get more dialogue more often BUT half-drow are still treated very poorly and some characters will even treat you badly based on being half-drow instead of drow. You get a lot of the same perks as humans and drow, of course, and honestly the mixture of genetics is very fun to experiment with when creating a character. For me it was also fun to think about what their life wouldve been like up to this point and creating an attachment from there.
I love the video, and the humour was top-notch. I really sympathize with your pain regarding gnomes. I'm still having nightmares about a gnome rogue assassinating me in Undercity. I can't entirely agree with the Drow ranking; I could not play Race that cannot grow a beard. A real shame.
Well, my favourite Tieflings and (wood) half-elves went pretty well. As a patron of my warlocks (that's how I RP - my character is always warlock, and I do not play as that character, but as that patron instead), I approve this video.
@@DeadHardTV Exactly. I mean, from RP perspective, acting as Warlock's patron (probably eldritch or undead - something very alien to DnD world since we players are aliens to those worlds) gives us plenty of opportunities to use. Of course, some might say the same applies for clerics and we can RP as their gods, but the problem is, gods are already established characters we can hardly identify with. But as patrons, we can truly be us, the being that helps and holds protective hand over their character.
So I'm not the only one to notice the size of Dwarf hands. They're the size of Cricket bats. At that point you have to become a monk, right? You're obligated to backhand the Elder Brain until it forgets its name, tis only fair.
Made my Durge a green dwarf berserker, he is called The Dulk. Seriously looks just like the Hulk with zero mods, just those ham hands and some green skin wearing purple underwear
I went into bg3 with no prior knowledge of the game nor dnd and picked a tiefling bard and it made me so much more motivated to save the tieflings than i likely would have otherwise "If we dont help our own kin, who will?"
I only used an elf because of their advantage on perception checks. I knew going into my first ever playthrough that there were a lot of hidden buttons, levers, passages, dialogue perception checks, etc. in this game so having my main character have that would be very important and useful if I didn't want to have to be constantly reloading my saves. lol
I remember really wanting to play a drow in BG2. It was sad for it not to be an option. One of my fav part of the game is going to the drow city in the underdark. It was so fun to go against the grain with my good aligned party.
Gnomes actually make weirdly good barbarians mechanically because gnome cunning helps with the number one weakness barbarians have: weak mental saves. Dark gnomes are also one of the mechanically strongest races along with halflings and githyanki. But yeah if you dont like gnomes its hard to enjoy playing one
So much of the game is cinematic, and so it's really about what avatar you enjoy looking at. Drow is pretty good for a first timer as going into a goblin camp is pretty scary
I'm currently playing as a half wood elf druid, and the only reason why I'm playing as a half elf rather than just a full elf is that the faces look better. Though I can understand why, I wish there were more customisation options for the faces. It really freaks me out when I meet a random NPC that looks exactly like my tav.
I am so glad it wasn't just me. My first playthrough was a female Drow cleric with red and white hair. I was very surprised and also a bit uncomfortable when I saw my mirror image being one of the Drow twins lol
@shadowdroid776 On the way to the Last Light Inn, the Main Harper in that Cutscene looked exactly like my Tav save for a different hairstyle and eye colour. But yours is definitely more awkward. When I've finished my first playthrough, I'm going to have to install some mods for more customisation. That's why I've ended up playing as a tiefling because then you can make them look distinctive enough that it isn't an issue.
Half elf is already my favorite 5E race and yeah I’m glad that it carried over into BG3. I usually don’t like drow because of the sunlight sensitivity but it was good to see they don’t have that in this game
My only problem with Human is that you couldn't choose your home region. Actually any race could've had a background choice of place of origin. Imagine being a Dragonborn who was born in Drow cities or even the Feywilds. Getting a special ability to see in the dark or invisible creatures. Baldurian is great and all but Gale at least talks about Waterdeep and Wyll is already one.
Aye. Same with my new half-elf rogue. The NPC he is inspired by is a sailor and not bound to a particular city, though BG does make sense in a way because does have a harbour. Doubly so because I chose criminal as his background (his misdeeds are the CG variety, going against the corrupt elite of the city, so I suppose Gortash could have had something to do with his abduction specifically).
My most iconic character was Pixie, a halfling Dark Urge rogue assassin fighter champion. She was impossible to find, holds the record in my group for strongest single attack, and was the most evil and terrifying member of the party. Ontop of all that, i loved the idea of a the smallest member of the party transforming into the most terrifying behemoth. Highly reccomend the build, being able to slip away from ambushes, start ambushes, and transforming when shit hits the fan is such a crazy level of versatility.
Good breakdown :) I have a softspot for Aasimar, based on a long played Paladin/Sorceror. Sometimes you just want to be an Aas who delivers fiery vengeance in the name of Pelor... ;) Thanks to mods, this is now an option.
I try so hard to play one of the lesser races, but every time I play as a non-dark gnome, I just... can't. Failing every saving throw, being blind in the dark, not being able to fit into half the doorways in the game, stumbling around wishing I could use stealth, it just breaks the game for me. Also, the pure joy of playing a melee combat character and absolutely wrecking guys twice my size is just hilarious. Dark gnome monk is simply a game changer for me. I do admit, however, some of the cute bigger races are fun to look at.
My first BG3 character was a drow druid. The amount of dialog options I got was wild just in the first act. Druids in the first act said it must be a great sign since a drow showed up being a druid. Bypassing sections without knowing I was doing that was fun. Overall the best introduction to the game imo
One of my favorite moments in Act 1 was when my drow character got to the entrance of the goblin encampment and started vibing on the war drums…which then summoned a slavering squad of goblins. The sheer look of “Oh shit!” on her face followed by a nearby goblin very trepidatiously asking her to please not do that again while he smoothed things over was priceless! 😂
My savage half-orc barbarian sounding like he was valedictorian at Cambridge... 😂 Speaking from a strictly meta standpoint, though, half-orc is one of *the* best races in the game.
My first character was a gnome but I had so much fun with him as a dragon sorcerer (gold/fire). He quickly became a demolition expert, misty step solved my short legs problem, and at high level, you can just fly instead of walking with your little legs.
I made a halfling warlock/bard and I decided that his lore was that he made a deal with his patron to become the best musician in all the realms, and after escaping the nautiloid, he needs to put the band back together. The band is named Metallurgy. The contrast of a heavy metal appearance on a polite little halfling is gold.
Elf is a good race for monks as you get longsword and Longbow proficiencies, and wood elf boost the movement range of a monk if you choose not to wear armor. If you want armor better to go Githyanki but you lack the ability to use most bows. But the cantrip going off intelligence makes it hard to balance the stats so it's actually effective. Sometimes better to select a cantrip like friends so it isn't a factor. But sometimes it's good to have firebolt.
Dragonborn: What feats do I get? Larian: Um... *looks around the corner* uuuh you can uuh... pick which elemental you want to be resistent to! Dragonborn: ... that's it?... No darkvision, No advantage Constitution Saving throws, be able to carry more weight or anything??? Larian: ... That's it really.
Fire resistance is good at least. Shame tieflings are a thing which solidly makes sure the Dborns are always gonna be mechanically outclassed. But the game isnt that hard and they look fire so fashion wise they are a winner
Soooo…I just finished my first solo HR with a deep gnome stealth archer, and the stealth bonus and wisdom saving throw advantage are the reasons I chose it. Did not disappoint.
The Underdark really elevates this game; not only is it my favourite looking area, but it has the best variants of the three (and a half) ancestries that live there. Drow, Duergar and Svirfneblin are all excellent, with Half-Drow only losing out because they don't get the Drow conversation prompts. My first playthrough was a Dark Urge Svirfneblin Oathbreaker (back when DU was next to Tav in creation) and it was great, I'd put them way above humans.
I bg3 i loved playing a half orc with the wild sorcercy barb subclass. I was roleplaying as a “cleric” of ilneval. Whenever the wild magic happened it was his tactical mind helping me.
First of all thanks for the video. Secondly after having completed more BG3 runs than I should have while still being only moderately competent at best, I've gotta say that I tried Honour Mode with two "meta builds" as half-elfs and was bored out of my mind. Didn't like what I saw and made lots of mistakes. My first successful HM was with a buff female tiefling, my "all bosses"-HM was with a female shield dwarf (bard) and I'm currently slashing my way through another HM with Patch 7 as a female half orc with two hand crossbows and I love it. Therefore my rating based solely on fun and loooks, because there are many proper rankings out there and nobody will read this comment: 1. Female Half Orcs 2. Buff Tieflings 3. Drow 4. Duergar and the other Dwarves 5. Halfling 6. Githyanki 7. Gnome 8. Half-Elf 9. Elf 11. Humans and Dragonborn Once did a run as Dragonborn Paladin with a salami as a weapon. I can't stand the race, even though I want to like it.
Dude, Gnome is my favorite BG3 race, because they get advantage on WIS/INT/CHA saving throws, and there are a LOT of important saving throws in BG3. Like the Zaithisk
My half orc monk is my lawful good playthrough, and the monk makes them even more intense. I’ve adored this playthrough, so different than any playthrough I’ve done in any game
that gnome WoW reference hit home 🤣... or at least until you mentioned "the most important encounters" for Duergar with a picture of Karlach... I chocked 😆 (and my top race is also a Drow, indeed I was unable to finish the game on any other yet... may be I'll manage with half-elf, tiefling and elf eventually)
Played drow since 1996 in dnd, mostly vhaeraun neutral evil. So lloth drow was the best playthrough especially noble backround, female, lvl 1 cleric (life but knowledge also works), 1 lvl wizard (int amulet so dumb stat later with respec) rest bard lore college. It was practically choose your answers as you wish lol, best support, since i could learn ALL spells thanks to lvl 1 wizard uber versatile too combined with lore bard. The amount of rolls you win with this combo borders to cheating combined with the plenty options from drow, lloth drow, cleric, wizard, lloth cleric, bard was more than amazing. But beware take wyll with you and let him lead the group before going to act 1 burned village else you find yourself in the real reaction dnd put you into as drow on the surface in faerun so amazing :P
I remember from my cancelled DnD campaign that our DM joked how I'm not gonna get darkvision unlike our half elf and rock gnome. But it was fun to tower over everything and scream at people at throw the dice 😂. In BG3 I play as a Dragonborn for roleplaying purposes but I'm considering modding the game just to make my dragonborns more beefy and stronk.
I LOVED playing as a Gith- Dark urge- Bard! The diologue options between Gith and Bard alone were a riot and even though at first I tried to cover his skinny body up as much as possible- by the end of the game I was so attached to my skinny legend that I just had to give him orins armor (in black)! It looked so good on him too!
I really enjoyed playing as a Duegar and Drow. Going into the underdark as a Duegar and hearing the hobgoblin saying "another Duegar? RUN LITTLE MUSHROOMS! ...oh wait you aren't with that raiding party. How can I help you?" Was hilarious 😂
I really enjoyed my playthrough as a half elf rogue/bard/fighter. I forget exactly what the allocation was, but I think I started as a rogue through level 2. The next four levels were bar to get the college of swords. Then two levels of fighter for better melee. Finishing off with rouge the rest of the way. In the end I was rogue 6, bard 4, fighter 2. I had a character that could talk and charm his way through much of the game, which I like. In a fight he could hold his own with good AC (dex), martial proficiency (bard/swords) and backstab (rogue). he could also pick locks and disarm traps. The biggest downside was lack of points in wisdom which limited perception. I play the character as chaotic-neutral. Pretty much up for anything and willing to go wherever the mood takes him. Playing through as a drow now and pretty much doing every evil thing that I can think of. it's not my preferred style but I want to experience the game from that perspective. Pretty much everybody that I helped in my first playthrough I am killing in this one. My next playthrough I want to try a rogue//bard. Not going to bother with fighter because playing solo I am going to get killed in any straight up confrontation anyway. I will be interesting to see how far I can get with combat limited to quick kills.
My first playthrough was as a halfling bard. I gave her a bit of a pirate look with dreads and scars and decided she'd be a swashbuckling swords bard with twin rapiers and twin crossbows. I loved just talking my way out of everything super easily, was lots of fun.
The best race + class combination for the face of the party (if you're not playing solo and have some spellcaster and a melee tank in the party) is wood half-elf + bard College of Swords (max DEX, 16 CHA, high persuasion and sleight of hand skills for lower prices, dialogues and picking locks) because half-elves have 1) the BEST looking faces; 2) shield proficiency (practically free + 2-3 AC bonus, and you don't get it otherwise unless you choose some melee (sub)class); 3) wood half-elves have movement speed bonus +3 m which is much more useful than the stupid bonus fire cantrip in case of high half-elves (the cantrip is absolutely useless unless you have high INT or high count of bonuses to ranged and/or spell attack rolls, so Shadowheart is much more useful as a spellcaster than melee class); 4) free 12 m darkvision
I thought the same thing about gnomes, until, I played one with friends. The true power of a gnome really comes out. I chose to play one for my friends Durge playthrough. He is a Deep Gnome who is just as messed up as the Durge. Classed him as a Rogue and of course, went assassin. When he was revealed in game, my only words were "Nobody messes with da boss." I am now a murder hobo who steals, murders, lies, and cheats his way in when my boss cannot. The amount of times my friends have laughed at me getting sent to jail (and subsequently breaking myself out) , stumbling across a dead body and saying "Ziz, was this you?", seeing me in a cutscene standing behind the NPC they are talking to full well knowing I am robbing them blind, starting fights because I failed my sleight of hand checks, and just being an overall 2ft tall asshole was well worth it.
Drow Dancing Lights were so useful in the shadow lands. I was set up in a way where if I had a torch bearer, I would pretty much be down a character, but the lights meant I could just step up and keep shifting where my lights were to make sure everyone was safe
I don't about the other races, but I agree that Drow are in a completely different class of their own. Creators expected many people will play Drow, thanks to a Mr. Salvatore. Likely also the reason why none of the origin companions are Drow, as they were earmarked for player-made protagonist.
dragon born and dwarves for that clan and kin vibe... my fav charecter type is a dragon born paladin. it just seems to fit really well, and honestly human or tiefling is another solid choice i would go
i like the short races because it's funny playing a bloodthirsty gnome or a megalomaniacal halfling. i just wish becoming a mindflayer worked more like canon dnd. i wanted to play a gnome ceramorph so so badly. they could've even made it more inclusive to other shorties, since dwarves and halflings and the like aren't supposed to be ceramorphable.
An elf walked into a bar only to be accosted by several drunkards. Mostly making fun of them and calling them twinkle fingers and such. With a smile they just roundhouse kick the first guy and throw the second onto the floor. Walk over to the bar and sit down asking for something strong. Bartender:... sure thing. Plus some extra for the show.
Was a Elder Scroll player for years. I always heard how DnD treated dark elves so i always stayed away. The sheer joy i had playing a seldarine drow on my blind playthrough was overwhelming
Of every campaign I’ve done so far, Seldarine Drow Durge Cleric of Selune was my favourite. Really let me immerse myself in a tale of a Durge who never wanted to be evil but was forcefully twisted to become so, and uses this second chance to its most so he can forgive himself for his actions as Bhaal’s Chosen.
Duergar beats drow by far with racial abilities, and dragonborn beat them with awesome looks. If you really just want to play drow for their dialogue options, then I would suggest disguise self...
Deep Gnome Ranger/Gloomstalker with misty step is just absurdly OP. Like, Ill shoot you from across the map at max four times with three of those attacks hitting like a mid tier sneak attack and the other just out of spite from not being dead from my initial volley, Gnomes are just perfect.
Yeah its the best racial for sure. Lucky makes your character amazing at saves, skillchecks, attacks and is absolutely amazing on honour mode. Negative movespeed on the other hand sucks for most melee classes. Duergar with invisibility and enlarge have greater power spikes, wood elves/orcs make for better melee classes and zariel tieflings are all around pretty amazing at being party face with built in fire resistance. I wouldn't say halflings win by a mile but swordsbard or gloomassassin halfling is the best build in the game.
@@timo6762 Duergar invisibility is no joke the most broken racial feature, granted invisibility is better when in a party of assassins or as a lone wolf. Where most racial spells are just once per long rest, invisibility is at will and once per battle, meaning as the gloom assassin, you can start your turn with your 7 crit attacks, disappear, then start another round of surprise. While you are invisible, you can use doors, light and dip into candles, swap gear, and drink potions all without breaking invisibility. And of course invisibility lasts until long rest. Not to mention you need not have any worry about lighting. These guys are the ones who can really claim to have passive stealth.
@@dallinadams9422 Yeah, duergar invisibility is great. Its what i mean by powerspike; its more effective than lucky when you use it situationally but that lucky thing is passively on at all times. (Lightfoot halfling with greater invis can often get off 5 or so turns before combat starts because of his lucky and stealth advantage. Halfling makes better skill monkey because of rerolls. In combat if you dont have assassins auto crits your attacks will likely land more often with lucky. Your saves get better)
@@timo6762 Agreed, its definitely a good passive ability that can affect pretty much everything you do, especially with skill monkeys, although just having advantage severely reduces the need for that. Lucky is useful, but it is not game breaking. Duergar take invisibility though to a whole new level, which has a huge impact for avoiding, entering, and escaping combat. Their invisibility is the best you can get for a passive stealth. It still has some limitations as it uses an action, concentration, and can only be used once per combat, but that is really all you need for it. It's definitely one of the most exploitable racial abilities there are.
I do have to say. I really appreciate that the stat boosts are completely separate from the racial choice. In old 5e it definitely felt restrictive as you chose more based around what stats fit your build, but when it is apart you can choose your race based more on which looks the absolute coolest and/or has the best racial abilities.
Had to take a break from Skyrim weapon rankings for a quick BG3 vid
Your intro cracked me up. Great vid. I subbed.
I really like your videos, but you don't release many videos. I think you should release more videos.
One small advise about having more dialoge options:
If you have the Disguise Self spell, you can get the dialoge options of the race you choose as well. If you later talk to the same person, but without any disguise - or even with a different one on -, they recognise you without a problem though, so it only effect the initial meeting...
@@Kieva_Storm Even the true racial bonus made it as once per a short-, or long rest, and still was an action. The damage would be scaling with your Constitution and get other increasements with your Character Level.

the best and most immersive part of playing drow is experiencing all the realistic racism

Absolutely agree tbh
Well, Drow are actually evil, they're cruel and aggressive, they don't like other races, especially other elves due to their religion and culture, so no one likes them too
If you want to experience modern racism, you should play as Tiefling, almost everyone treats you normally, but still you think that you're oppressed, if you look at the dialogue options

Bro bullied you into a character repsec😭
Wyll doesn't become a tiefling. He doesn't get any racial abilities of a tiefling. He doesn't even look like one. Tieflings have pointy ears, tails and completely different bone structure than humans. Wyll just looks like a cursed human.
Wyll isn't a teifling, but a devil. A cambion.
"no i am not obsessed with dragonborn thank you very much"
Starting 8th campaign as dragonborn
You know in normal DnD I have never really played as a dragonborn all that much because of their lack in racial features which makes it hard to make a build around them. Then in BG3 they just look so awesome it is very hard for me to play anyone but a dragonborn.
@@dallinadams9422 just flip on some mods that give them some racials, some1 gave them half elf racials and thats enough for me.
The only thing that hurts me with this game is how no one in the party is a dwarf, halfling or gnome
It would actually be fun hav9ng a gnome given Astarions hate for them hell, it could play into him becoming more accepting of them
Gale's should have been a gnome. His story would still made sense, and there's literally no reason why we have two humans in the party.
I would have loved it if Wyll was a half orc. That would have added some extra intrigue.
@@TreeckoJedi9 you know, I can see it working! Thought I can also see why they didn't go that route, as Wyll is the only visible poc in the party.
I think it was a missed opportunity to not have one short-folk party member.
It's also crazy that there's no Ranger or Bard party member.
There’s a dwarf character that was cut very early on, she was supposed to be a werewolf bard
Doesn’t she also have to be temporarily hostile? I remember one playthrough I just fought her straight up non lethal and she disappeared

My tav turning to Astarion with puppy eyes “can you please get that, I can’t reach”
I had more fun as a halfling though, femme halflings are some of the cutest in game. And as a storm sorcerer it would make for a terrifying and hilarious sight in battle. This tiny woman calling forth the wrath of talos and decimating everyone.
I was a storm mage Gnome! Honestly, playing as a gnome was different but it’s kind of cute how romance works with the in-game height differences.
Yup they don’t have the classic d&d look I expected, seems a weird oversight or decision
Duergar Supremacy, forever
I’ll be honest only time I’ve kill d Barus is when I hit the wrong lever. In honour mode
Only it's not. It only gives you 12 health, which is nothing by end game.
@@Titansdragon75 better to go duergar for growth and invisibility
So many items give blade ward through healing i don't think barbie rage is needed. Its easier to manage for sure but i'd say shapeshifter druid with damage resistance is the tankiest class with tons of hp to soak and low enough ac to keep enemies interested and good spells to prep the fights
Another amazing tank is dex cleric with light domain and reverberation items.
@@timo6762 Radiant retort would like a word.
Better fit.

Human fighter may look basic but beating the absolute living shit out of all kinds of monsters and powerful entities due to your sheer human determination just hits different
Guts enjoyers never go out of style
Glad to hear it!
Fun idea! I found funny to think that occasionally your character hear in their head how you yell "How did you miss 95% with advantage you fool!"

Playing a half orc monk and I’m honestly loving it, I don’t have many half orc dialogue options but combined with monk it has been a cool play through
Not a combo I would have thought of personally! Sounds like a super cool character
I always use elves because my first D&D character was an elf and I just adore her. Can't get out of the elf phase lmao.
I only used an elf because of their advantage on perception checks. I knew going into my first ever playthrough that there were a lot of hidden buttons, levers, passages, dialogue perception checks, etc. in this game so having my main character have that would be very important and useful if I didn't want to have to be constantly reloading my saves. lol
My first ever experience of BG3 (without any DND background) was a Seldarine Drow and I instantly fell in love with this race.
I remember really wanting to play a drow in BG2. It was sad for it not to be an option. One of my fav part of the game is going to the drow city in the underdark. It was so fun to go against the grain with my good aligned party.
Best part of being a Drow is that unlike in 5e is that you don’t have disadvantage on attack rolls just for being in the sun
I have way to much fun with a gnome berserker running around in boxer shorts. Knocking down an ogre by throwing a dead rat at it... good times
Good breakdown :)
I have a softspot for Aasimar, based on a long played Paladin/Sorceror. Sometimes you just want to be an Aas who delivers fiery vengeance in the name of Pelor... ;)
Thanks to mods, this is now an option.
Bro I know what you mean, but the phrase lesser races sounds so bad out of context
Considering I almost always played as Dunmer in Skyrim... I thought I'd take a break from that in BG3 so... high elf to look down on everyone.
"Deep gnomes do have dark vision, but also, that means you have to play a deep gnome..."
My first BG3 character was a drow druid.
The amount of dialog options I got was wild just in the first act.
Druids in the first act said it must be a great sign since a drow showed up being a druid.
Bypassing sections without knowing I was doing that was fun.
Overall the best introduction to the game imo
Dwarf being Numbee 4 is super respectable! I respect that. As its my favorite race.
Bae'zel is the only reason I play as a Gith
Can’t play male gith the genuinely all look like crackheads
She's ugly and has a boring personality. Literally the worst romancable character in the game.
Pretty based list but I do wanna correct that githyanki actually have the highest number of unique dialogues and scenes in the game
Speaking from a strictly meta standpoint, though, half-orc is one of *the* best races in the game.
You had me at competitive racism 😂 What an intro, and a great video. Look forward to you ranking the BG3 classes next
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, your human at 3:55 is an absolute chad.
Sorry mate but I will always ROCK AND STONE for my fellow Dwarves.

Drow is 100% the best!! Drow lore is so fascinating to me. One day i hope we can go to Menzoberranzan in a future game
When he was revealed in game, my only words were "Nobody messes with da boss."
I am now a murder hobo who steals, murders, lies, and cheats his way in when my boss cannot.
I'm a sucker for wood elves. I just love the green nature feel of the characters 😅
They can look very cool
RogueRanks returns 🙏🏿
💀
Completely new to the game, started my first play through as a Lolth Drow and cannot agree more, they are SO badass
Making a Half-Orc Paladin is too crazy to not try out at least once a playthrough.
Drow, hands down the best race in BG3, no contest there.
From a gameplay perspective, it'd be Githyanki or Halfling. Drow bring pretty much nothing to the table except some dialouge.
They’re one of the weakest in the game
Duergar beats drow by far with racial abilities, and dragonborn beat them with awesome looks. If you really just want to play drow for their dialogue options, then I would suggest disguise self...
Naw, human 100%.
@@dallinadams9422 Role-playing is before the game
Deep Gnome Ranger/Gloomstalker with misty step is just absurdly OP. Like, Ill shoot you from across the map at max four times with three of those attacks hitting like a mid tier sneak attack and the other just out of spite from not being dead from my initial volley, Gnomes are just perfect.
Halfing wins by a mile, never rolling a 1 is better than anything in the game
Yeah its the best racial for sure. Lucky makes your character amazing at saves, skillchecks, attacks and is absolutely amazing on honour mode. Negative movespeed on the other hand sucks for most melee classes.
Duergar with invisibility and enlarge have greater power spikes, wood elves/orcs make for better melee classes and zariel tieflings are all around pretty amazing at being party face with built in fire resistance. I wouldn't say halflings win by a mile but swordsbard or gloomassassin halfling is the best build in the game.
@@timo6762 halfling gloomstalker ranger gets longstrider, superior darkvision, fire and cold resistance and 4 to 5 attacks per turn.
