It's hilarious seeing the former slavers cry about not being catered to despite the fact the only reason they're allowed in Windhelm to begin with is because the Nords let them in as refugees. Only for them to act against the interests of the people that granted them asylum.
My first skyrim character was an Orc battlemage named Klarrg. I roleplayed him being constantly high on Skyrim's various mushrooms and poisonous plants. He was really fun to play even though I barely did the main story at all, focusing more on the mage academy questline
Very much a non-gameplay/strategy list, which was cool and not what I expected. Here's my ranking, which I base ONLY on gameplay: #10-8: Wood elf, Imperial, and Khajit: No useful abilites, daily powers, or passives. #7 Dark elf: Resist fire is very useful, though not as applicable as magick resist. Still has lots of applications. #6 Redguard: Their daily power lets them regen stamina quickly, which is fairly useful. Their posion resist is negligable. #5 Nord: Frost resitance is useful because frost is very common. All undead, necromancers, frost dragons, frostbite spiders, and so on will be resisted by their passive. It's not as applicable as magic resistance, but nothing to scoff at. #4 Argonian: Having access to hitskin is extremely useful and always applicable in any combat situation. Skyrim has faceroll, tank and heal combat - and this ability fits perfectly in that zone. #3 Orcs: Berserker rage makes you take half damage and deal double damage, but only psychical damage, no magic. This ability works for melee as well as archery, making it the best archer or dual weilding sword race. #2 High Elves: They get 150 magicka, which is a full 5 levels worth of stats that no other race can, at any level, match. This ability is only useless if you NEVER use any magic at all. On top of that their daily power is insane for any mage. #1 Bretons: magic resiatnce is bar none the best ability in the game and it's on a PASSIVE.
eh, orc active ability is way to strong to sleep on, at least in skyrim. Argonian's are very balanced one and very good too, honestly dont see myself playing a breton, the magic resist just is not that good in skyrim when you can gain absorb magic so easily.
Counter argument: while the magic resistance is good in the beginning, every character can reach 100% magic immunity or close, making the magic resistance useless. Orcs for the win!
Considering how many things use frost based spells and will slow you down while backing up makes Nord better because of the resistance Halfling the stamina and health drain. For a warrior in the frozen north bumps it up to #2 or even #1 for me.
The Problem of why Imperials are considered bad and bland in general is, because the bigger part of the recent audience of the Elder Scrolls franchise has almost no experience with Morrowind and very little experience with Oblivion. In Skyrim 9 out of 10 quest solutions is to simply kill whatever stands in your way of ticking the box. In Oblivion there are several quests which can be solved by asking the right people - speechcraft had some weight. In Morrowind, solving crap without talking to NPCs, is simply impossible and a lot of NPCs require you to not be a shitmouth. Oblivion and Morrowind can give you a hard time as a murderhobo. Skyrim gives you a hard time, if you are not a murderhobo.
@@RogueRanks Clarifications: Bosmer can eat plants and fruits BUT they can't harvest them or eat harvested plants that means that the fruits need to drop from the trees.
"Voice of the Emperor" was basically rewritten between Oblivion and Skyrim. It used to do the "charm/persuade" effect, rather than "calm". Which, I found much more useful than Skyrim's counterpart.
I was SHOCKED that Altmer was ranked so low. Useful ability and they get an extra 50 points in magic. Magic builds aren’t for everyone, but second lowest in the rankings feels plain wrong.
Playing morrowind made me love the dunmer and almost replacing argonians as number one, but playing eso just made me love the argonians even more, they are some of the most caring people in tamriel, sacrificing themselves for others and such. Also the added benefit of playing an argonians means you will experience racism.
I feel like the Dunmer got a great lore because of Morrowind (the game). Since at the time, Bethesda was probably trying to compete with other lore heavy RPG, they made the intricate history of the dunmer, with it's religion difference, lore dissagreement within the game (who killed nerevar), and other political power at play (Im thinking about the great houses, but also the interaction with the empire establishment, like Telvanni vs mages guild). All of that lead to greater Dunmer development as a race compared to the meagre lore we got in oblivion / skyrim imho. In my experience, I found that it was easier to imagine a compelling dunmer character, with loads of background ties, compared to a Nord or a Imperial. Also Argonian into Dunmer ranking is wild considering their mutual hate xD
You kinda got the Nord pantheon backwards. Alessia basically retconned the Nord gods and hybridized them with the Altmer gods to create a syncratic religion for the new empire. All the religions of Tamriel basically originate from the same monomyth(except for the Argonians), but are interpreted differently based on whether or not the cultures philosophy is Anuic or Padomaic.
Races I have ”never” played as (anywhere from zero minutes to sixty minutes) dating back to Morrowind’s launch on Xbox, from least time to most time: Redguard, Khajiit, Argonian, Orc, Imperial, Bosmer, Altmer. I have at least one hundred hours with Dunmer, and thousands with Nord, and Breton.
I love how one of the biggest sticking points against the Stormcloaks is that they're racist. When it comes to Tamriel, that's just the pot calling the kettle black.
My first ever Legendary playthrough was on the xbox 360 with the argonian race, hitskin came in handy for a lot of situations. My second was with was with Kahjiit, I just felt like playing the cat Maybe for my third I'll try a Dunmer or Nord playthrough but unlike the last two which I relied on Sword and shield, I'll try more of a spellsword playthrough where I'll rely on conjuration and destruction magic with my sword being the back up weapon.
I'm consistantly confused how the people of Skyrim are so easily able to tell what race my character is when Imperials, Bretons and Nords look so human comparitively. Maybe I'm missing something. At least with the elves, there's some sort of tell, and there's no mistaking a khajit, and orc or an argonian
Imperials usually have darker features than Nords, darker skin, hair, eyes, etc. Nords look more, well, Nordic. And Bretons, iirc, are supposed to have pointed ears and other elven features. Skyrim doesn't convey this, but lore wise that's why they stand out.
@@CaptainEffortHeight can be a factor. I think Bretons are the shortest, then Imperials, and Nords the tallest. Their names can be a giveaway too. Nords obviously have Scandinavian sounding names, Imperials are Latin, and Breton are French inspired.
Nords are taller then the others. But I can only say who is Breton or imperial by the name. Bretons have frensh names and the imperials has old Roman names
Compare NPCs then: Nord Male: Ulfric, Balgruff Nord Female: Aela, Serana, Moll the Lioness (The Stormcloaks are mostly Nords, as is the Eastern cities. You hear the accent the sweet roll guards use, those are Nords. Tall, hair ranges from blonde to deep brown with a fair complexion, strong frame and build.) Breton Male: Belethor, Mercer Frey Breton Female: Delphine, Sybille Stentor (The Forsworn are all Bretons, as is most of Markarth. You hear the Courier's accent or that Wesr Coast American bland twang? Breton. Mid height, deep blonde to brown with more elvish skin tones.) Imperial Male: Tulius, Cicero, Dexion Imperial Female: Vittoria Vici, Camilla Valerius (They have a surname that's not Nordic? Imperial. They sound Latin/ Roman? Imperial. They're shorter and a bit more swarthy? Imperial.)
I’ve been playing Daggerfall as an Argonian. The number of times I’ve been called stupid or dumb by npcs because I’m playing Argonian is numerous. Argonian are certainly perceived as just being mindless lizard men by most people in the earlier titles.
High elf and Breton are my literal favorites. Hear me out, I fking love roleplaying as a Mage. High elfs and Bretons are the best for that role. (Note: High elfs have a great lore too, like that time they literally made them moons disappear, bet the khajiits are scared as shit now XD)
For real bro hope New players actually pay attention to their ancient history and when they do they will know that most of the civilization was made by them the ancient aldmer specially were the ones who taught other races how to govern and build civilization
@@shadowborn1456 Yes. The Altmer are truly superior, Nords are fools who believe magic is weak. Bretons arent half elves, the elven blood in their veins is far to weak, Dunmer are respectable and a Tarnished elven race. Falmer, broken and betrayed by the Dwemer who tried to create their own god with Lorkhans heart. In my opinion the elven races should be looked at more, new players dont know much about them and just assume, Altmer = Arrogant = Weak and the Worst... Completely overlooking the fact that the Arcane arts, weaponry, diplomacy etc wouldnt exist without the ancient Golden Mer. There is sooo much overshadowed lore. There is more Lore than Bethesda could ever put into one game.
@@TheCatabolicTrex One of the many races in Tamriel, coming from High Rock, they were mix-blood descendants of Nedic and Aldmeri or Atmoran and Aldmeri. You should already know that if you are literally watching an Elder Scrolls Video.
Personally I like to play as an Altmer that became an outcast from the Aldmeri Dominion and have adapted to the harsh climates of Skyrim, a muscular and skilled fighter visible by his scars (mainly at the face) but also adept at the arcane. A High-Elf Heavy Armored Spell Blade master. Plus, High Elves have a long lifespan which means a long era of peace (or chaos) for Skyrim. And plus, they're the tallest race in the game. So my character looks towering with those Daedric or Dragonbone armor. Nothing compared to the Ebony Warrior and Tsun though 😂
Who better to be born of a dragon than a character with scales for skin. Love those oblivion stopping chads born of the hist, especially those shadow scales.
Yeah... Can't disagree, Dark Elves are the best in Elder Scrolls. If I ever play another one of those games I might have to just straight up rip off Drizzt.
The Argonians counter invading Oblivion is my favorite lore in TES. Everyone else was shitting themselves as daedra were pouring out of these gates and the Argonians decided to get jacked on Hist sap and go fuck shit up
wierd putting high elves in second worst . they are by far the best . their ability can be used until end game plus 50 more extra magicka is usefull no matter how u put it even for non magickal build as u can use most spells early on and or use healing when u low on health instead of making potions
4:20 There is a way to incorporate the cannibal / carnivore aspect of playing as a Bosmer. You would seek the hall of the dead in Markarth, wherein a side quest can be started to obtain the ring of Namira. This daedric artifact allows the player to exponentially raise their health and stamina by feeding on the dead.
Honestly a very respectable list. Very thorough, very researched. I would personally disagree as i love argonian culture and lore but that is my personal preference. I also love dunmer lore. Their hierarchy reminds a lot of menzoberranzan and faerûn lore for underdark drow which i find awesome as heck
You didn't mention the part about orcs being elves. All races in Tamriel with "mer" in their race name are considered elves. Altmer, Bosmer, Dunmer, Dwemer, Falmer, and Orsimer. Yes, even the dwarves are considered elves in Tamriel.

One of the reasons I always play Stormcloak is because it’s funny seeing the Dunmer having only a slight taste of their own medicine
It's hilarious seeing the former slavers cry about not being catered to despite the fact the only reason they're allowed in Windhelm to begin with is because the Nords let them in as refugees. Only for them to act against the interests of the people that granted them asylum.
Dunmer till I die 🔥 best vampire race. Also fuck Ulfric he can catch these hands for how he treats my dark brethren
@@Esraug9012 maybe your brethren can stop leeching off the nords and do something for themselves?
I still hope that we find a long hidden colony of dwemer someday.
I would love that but also love the idea of keeping them mysterious and gone.
Both sad and fascinating that the only dwemer we see are the guy who got corprus and several ghosts in Morrowind.
My first skyrim character was an Orc battlemage named Klarrg. I roleplayed him being constantly high on Skyrim's various mushrooms and poisonous plants. He was really fun to play even though I barely did the main story at all, focusing more on the mage academy questline
Does it make you a Furry if every single character you create is a khajit?
Yes
Yeah
@@aidandixon6028 Great
Welcome to being a furry, brother. It sucks.

Are you a Pyro main?
Very much a non-gameplay/strategy list, which was cool and not what I expected. Here's my ranking, which I base ONLY on gameplay:
#10-8: Wood elf, Imperial, and Khajit: No useful abilites, daily powers, or passives.
Yes I realize I learned much more into the vibes and lore of each. Great breakdown of each race! Bretons are crazy good
High Elves and Bretons are my "go to." In almost 13 years I don't think I've ever played as a Wood Elf, Nord, or Argonian.
In the nicest way possible, I hate you. I refuse to play high elves over argonians, orcs, dark elves or nords
eh, orc active ability is way to strong to sleep on, at least in skyrim.
That meme at 12:49 though😂
The dunmer are obviously the superior race
The nords are better because they're capable of more racism
The Dunmer Memri TV memes are why they will forever be my favourites

Every single time it's a Breton. I like to summon things while hiding in heavy armor behind a shield.

"Voice of the Emperor" was basically rewritten between Oblivion and Skyrim. It used to do the "charm/persuade" effect, rather than "calm". Which, I found much more useful than Skyrim's counterpart.
You sure nailed the viewer engagement with this video XD
Having Imperials so high and Bosmer so low is unforgivable.
in vanilla skyrim i always play as a dark elf, i just cant be any other race, dark elf vampire assassin is the most overpowered build possible.

I was SHOCKED that Altmer was ranked so low. Useful ability and they get an extra 50 points in magic. Magic builds aren’t for everyone, but second lowest in the rankings feels plain wrong.
Good points, I definitely wasn’t being very objective here 😂

I love argonian lore. A genocidal tree looked at a lizard and was like. You're a person now.
Tool bad, Breton's are the most superior race in Skyrim
I've been a Redguard ever since Morrowind. Redguard for life
@@rogerm1764 Redguards are awesome
Seems like you definitely know what you're talking about.. When it's comes to race..
I've subbed..
Playing morrowind made me love the dunmer and almost replacing argonians as number one, but playing eso just made me love the argonians even more, they are some of the most caring people in tamriel, sacrificing themselves for others and such. Also the added benefit of playing an argonians means you will experience racism.
I've had arguments with people about redguards being based on Japanese culture. Thanks for confirming. My favorite race to play.
What's interesting about Redguard lore is they came from a different timeline where Alduin actually won & the dragonborn died
Thanks for the insight! I didn't know my lore as well as I thought
redguards are also very different because they aren't originally from the world of tamriel. yeah, it's weird.
Nord are really the only choice for the dragon born
ABSOLUTELY BASED
Breton, just like Tiber Septim
Races I have ”never” played as (anywhere from zero minutes to sixty minutes) dating back to Morrowind’s launch on Xbox, from least time to most time: Redguard, Khajiit, Argonian, Orc, Imperial, Bosmer, Altmer.
I have at least one hundred hours with Dunmer, and thousands with Nord, and Breton.
I love how one of the biggest sticking points against the Stormcloaks is that they're racist. When it comes to Tamriel, that's just the pot calling the kettle black.
Probably due to most players first or only game being Skyrim and not realizing how racist everyone really is here
@@RogueRanks It's also incredibly ironic that it's the dark elves on the receiving side this time.
My first ever Legendary playthrough was on the xbox 360 with the argonian race, hitskin came in handy for a lot of situations.
My second was with was with Kahjiit, I just felt like playing the cat
Maybe for my third I'll try a Dunmer or Nord playthrough but unlike the last two which I relied on Sword and shield, I'll try more of a spellsword playthrough where I'll rely on conjuration and destruction magic with my sword being the back up weapon.
12:45 Dunmer in a nutshell.
@@CyranofromBergerac Good point, and I'm sure accents play a part too
Nords are taller then the others. But I can only say who is Breton or imperial by the name. Bretons have frensh names and the imperials has old Roman names
Compare NPCs then:
Nord Male: Ulfric, Balgruff
Nord Female: Aela, Serana, Moll the Lioness
(The Stormcloaks are mostly Nords, as is the Eastern cities. You hear the accent the sweet roll guards use, those are Nords. Tall, hair ranges from blonde to deep brown with a fair complexion, strong frame and build.)
Breton Male: Belethor, Mercer Frey
Breton Female: Delphine, Sybille Stentor
(The Forsworn are all Bretons, as is most of Markarth. You hear the Courier's accent or that Wesr Coast American bland twang? Breton. Mid height, deep blonde to brown with more elvish skin tones.)
Imperial Male: Tulius, Cicero, Dexion
Imperial Female: Vittoria Vici, Camilla Valerius
(They have a surname that's not Nordic?
Now this is the list I’ve been waiting for
S tier : White
A tier : East asian
B tier : Arabian
C tier : South east Asian, Hispanic
D tier : indian, black people

Love those oblivion stopping chads born of the hist, especially those shadow scales.

wierd putting high elves in second worst . they are by far the best . their ability can be used until end game plus 50 more extra magicka is usefull no matter how u put it even for non magickal build as u can use most spells early on and or use healing when u low on health instead of making potions
