It is so sad that at the age of 19 I have to come to TH-cam and finally find a diegnostic to what has gone on with me my whole life! This is insane and it has made my night that I finally have a name to my problem. I don’t understand why my doctors haven’t told me this I have told them my problem and how now I’m 260lbs because I can’t eat healthy because the textures and seriously gosh I’m so in shock right now I don’t even know what to say I’m mind blown 🤯

I dissect my food! Say if I had a sandwich I would ideally eat the filling and the bread separately. Thank you so much for telling me that this is a dyspraxia thing because people always yell at me for it.

This was so great, I have an 11yr old son whom I struggle with at meal time all the time as I just don't know what it like for him.
We just tell him to "deal with it, it will be ok".
But it is not us with Dspraxia.
To him it is big issue and his world is falling apart...to us and others he seem like naughty kid.

I'm 25 and was diagnosed with Dyspraxia whan I was about 5 or 6. For as long as I can remember I've had to deal with eating disorders and not being able to eat certain foods due to the texture being unbearable. I had no idea it was because of my dyspraxia. How have me or my parents gone this long without having any idea why I have terrible eating habits. It's seriously going to effect my health. More parents need to be made aware of this. Thank you so much for opening my eyes.

Dyspraxics inability to tolerate certain textures is because of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)

I was diagnosed last year at the age of 15. I can totally relate I have a whole order as to were each food item goes and non of the different types of food can touch
also I always eat in a specific order so I dont confuse the tastes and then if I find a chip at the end of a meal I will disregard it
    food can be really stressful
it also annoys me that evan now after a year people still don't know what dyspraxia is

the purple cheescake zebra Not even the specialist really 100% know, but I guess a lot of conditions are the same, we are in a time where we are still learning, and by communicating with one another and adding our inputs together, im hoping that throughout the process of making these video's we can all help each other understand, who knows I could come across some new discoveries that even the specialists don't know about yet. :) we will get there don't worry

OK...my jaw is now on the floor. The priority of texture in food and then the part about the "beans can't touch the mash" pretty much just did me in. Like why I love ice cream and I love pie, but just don't mix them, or I can't...as in CAN'T... eat it. I really had NO idea. I could leave like 50 more comments but I've learned not to gush...which I never new was a behavior related to dyspraxia...which I also didn't know I had, so I'll just finish by saying...thanks again and you go KB!

watching this is so relieving because everyone always bitches to me about how fussy i am with food and it gets really frustrating not being able to eat certain things, yet i never knew it was due to my dyspraxia!! i was diagnosed with dyspraxia when i was about 7, but i never really had it explained to me properly because i was so young thankyou so much!!!!

  • @patrickenright9311

    I’ve dyspraxia.
I had this phenomenon Krystal describes as a child, but grew out of it.
I used to go apes**t if the ketchup touched the chips. Everything has to be ‘just so’, black or white - no grey area.
Using the principles of CBT and settling into social situations, I grew out of it. Now I don’t care if all the food mashes together on the plate, coz that inevitably happens in your stomach anyway. Don’t cry over it, just relax.
Food textures never really bothered me. I used to be a fussy eater, and had bulimia at one stage, but thankfully not anymore.
You are doing a lot for us as a people Krystal, keep up the good work.

Nothing saucy/liquidy can touch anything else, and bready things cannot get wet. I also HATE fat on meat (unless it's crispy bacon) but my mum's a vegetarian and buys cheap meat OTL I have to drink between different textures which is probably the only reason I can stay hydrated lol. Food is really stressful, so I'm surprised I eat at all ._.

This made me smile because it's so relatable. I can't have carrots or sweet corn touching my beans or ketchup I can't handle it I won't eat either off them even if they haven't merged. But I can't eat jelly or raw carrots I forget how to swallow I'm the same with beef I also hate touching my wrists it makes me feel sick, people think I'm weird but i know that I'm just unique :)

It's very interesting. I have dyspraxia but I'm 100% not fussy about food. But I do work with children with autism and a lot of them do demonstrate this sort of behaviour. One girl will absolutely refuse to touch her food if it's touching another food. Fascinating. Either way, your take on dyspraxia as not being a disability is very inspiring.

The reason we show a lot of traits of other disabilities is because them all link together get a piece of paper and write autism, dyslexia and ADHD dew a circle around them so they overlap that is the best way too show the links me and few friends agree the centre the bit where all three meet is dyspraxia and then you can be more towards different sections but for myself I am slap bang in the middle with traits from all three things and ADD on top so y.The food thing is abit bizzar but for me I was premature and have hardly any sense of smell or taste and so rely on texture too see if I like the food.I am also strange as a dyspraxia due to the smell and taste thing but I'm also partially deaf in my left ear losing my eyesight in my right eye and when I do yoga or have general aniphetic in the hospital I loss the hyper awareness and by that I mean I lose the judgement of distance after yoga and I lose 24-36hrs after coming round from general so too look at dyspraxia as everyone is the sam is like looking at the children you work with all being the same with autism.Hope this helps you with understanding it better

I never got diagnosed when I was young, my parents thought I was picky and stubborn when I couldn't handle most soft foods, could only wear socks inside out, was always cold and constantly wore the same jacket, etc. I masked very well because I was a savant true, so people thought I was still aloof academic. I've only recently been realizing so many of my issues are related to sensory processing and a lack of social skills.

hi its great to see a youtuber with dyspraxia :)
in my experience I see dyspraxia as just the motor skills problem. I do know that a lot of people tend to have both autism and dyspraxia but i think the're more separate than you mentioned

    • @Dinocub
      @Dinocub 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+nathanroberts as someone with dyspraxia I thought that I would let you know that I have traits of ADD and ADHD and Autism and Dyslexia which makes life pretty tricky. Unfortunately for me they all over lap and it causes havoc with things in life.It is not just the motor skills its the gross and fine motor skills and the organisation and the understanding and everything in between. And bore you jumps down my throat. I would like to tell you I was diagnosed at age 4/5 and I'm now twenty one and still struggling to cope but because in the last few yrs there has been more information and understanding on the learning difficulty I have found more coping meconisums and the info helps explain to people. Things I struggle wit on a daily basis, time keeping, grocery shopping, cooking, eating, sleeping, travelling. These are a few things I struggle with not even the physical things like being partially deaf in my left ear, losing my eyesight in my right eye and having practically no sense of smell or Taste or the fact that I can never truly relax because ill lose sense of distance or 24-36hrs of my life. These are the significant things I deal with not a monthly or weekly or day or hourly rate but every second of every minute of every hour of every day for my entire life.So please ask or at least research it before judging people cuz I hurts me too know that people think its a tiny thing when In reality its huge. For example did you know that 1 in 10 adults in the world are undiagnosed with dyspraxia that's a big thing

I was told at college I had dyspraxia! Wanted a full diagnosis but none of my local g.ps even knew what it was and wouldn't push for diagnosis. . I'm the same with food but I also eat in an order... everymeal I have whether it be a roast dinner. . Or fish and chips... I'm the same with textures and if something I don't like have touched my food I won't eat it. .. my mam tries to put broccoli water in the gravy to get me the nutrients but I know immediately and just won't eat my dinner if it's there.. my brother has adhd and it's okay for him to act how he does but sometimes I think because I'm older (22) if I get in a tizz with my emotions or something it's stupid to her... I'm gonna show her this video so it makes more sense to her x

I have texture-with-taste issues. I love pickles, but only if they're crunchy and super sour. Sweet, soft, or fried pickles make me want to brush my teeth a thousand times. I hate apple sauce but I love apple butter (which is just apple sauce but heavily spiced). Any kind of yogurt, pudding, pasta dishes or soups with fruit/veggie chunks is impossible for me to eat without making a face. I've always been a picky eater, but now that I'm in my 20s, breaking the habit and trying to broaden my diet is hilariously difficult.

For all of you in the comments please go look to other videos and research the disorder because it’s not just about the textures and the foods. There’s so much more to it and you might self diagnose yourself with something you don’t have so go look it up before doing so please.

I was misdiagnosed as having asperger's syndrome in early Primary School. It would be another few years before my learning support teacher told my parents to get me tested for dyspraxia.

Not being diagnosed as a child I was always punished for being fussy with food. I couldn't eat lots off food because it all made me feel sick which turned out was because I also had coeliac disease. However, the best way I can cope with food is I stick everything in a bowl and make sure it is mushed up before I eat it now that I cook for myself. That way it is all 1 thing. However I only really like to eat mushy things with rice like chili or curry.

Hello! I looked up food/texture problems and this is the first thing that I saw. I have a little brother who is 7 years old now, and he has been eating baby/puréed food since he was a baby. His big thing is textures, and it's just been a big mystery to our whole family. We've gone to doctors, done physical therapy, and nothing seems to work. I'm not quite sure if he is in a similar situation to you, but if you could help me out with things that helped you, that would be really awesome.

I was diagnosed in my first year of university too. For me I can´t stand dried fruits having them in my mouth and chewing it makes me want to crawl out of my skin. My first complete sentence was grandad I don´t eat raisins, he was teasing me about it. I don´t have the same habits about things not touching on my plate and stuff but I absolutely can´t eat in dim light, I am very sensitive to light and light changes and I need to see 100% whats on my plate. I used to be extremely fussy about food I could only eat bland foods but as I got older I´ve become more used to and even like spicy food but anything slightly sour I am extremely sensitive to. I can´t eat a lot of fruits and vegetables because they are not all uniform in taste, shape and texture.

Hildur Vignisdottir light, taste and touch sensitivity is something have spoken a lot about today with other Dyspraxics, its quite a big thing for us I have come to realise so after the next video I will no doubt cover that topic. I am exactly the same with dried fruits, and if I food that has a tiny bit of 'burn' on it, I cant even finish eating it I have to spit it out and just pretend the rest of that food doesn't exist on my plate, in fact I rarely ever finish my meal if that happens because it puts me right off. My family used to get VERY frustrated with me because of it. but what can you do aye?

Excellent - though it may seem odd to those who have not come up close and personal with a person with the disability (according to equalities and human rights commision, UK) Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) more commonly known as developmental dyspraxia and similar to acquired dyspraxia.
DCD/Dyspraxia affects different people in different ways - |I had not heard of the one type of food not touching another before and I have been dealing with my dyspraxia for 20 years now - I am 69.

With what you said, I realized that I do make sure that certain foods aren't touching. Like I don't want my veggies touching certain foods like mashed potatoes. But ketchup, my family and I are ketchup lovers lol. I am also the pickiest one out of my family with food. I hate onions, peppers, cherries, anything spicy, caramel, I can go on. My family loves those, and usually tries to force me to eat them by cooking them into our meals. I always pick out them out. Spicy food, yeah I'm 40% mexican but I can't stand the spicy taste.

angel101heartsJB from my understanding, we are likely to be more..ermmm sensitive? to spicy foods, in the same way most of us will be over sensitive to light and light changes. But there was even one pea or bean, or anything that shape, on my plate as a child I wouldnt eat the entire plate. I'm better now but I would still all wrong food items removed before I could eat.

I've been diagnosed with dyspraxia but my parents don't really know much about it, so I looked it up, and when I tell them stuff about it, they say it's a load of rubbish. But it's true...I apparently have it mildly, but I don't know what stage that is, or how much of an extent it is to etc. The only reason why I never really got help was because I went to orsett but they treat you like a piece of shit, they think you're stupid. she tried to teach me how to hold a knife and fork, and read out a short passage to her. 1. I ain't stupid, 2. It's DYSPRAXIA, not DYSLEXIA

I know how you feel I have dyspraxia and people have been treating me like I'm stupid, making me feel left out of activities and they I mentioned dyslexia

Yeah, I won't eat it either if I don't like the texture.

My worst food is definitely potato. I gag everytime I eat Potato and my tongue for some reason shrivels up. I've had this reflex problem since I was little.

I can't stand the taste of most fruits or vegetables. Stuff like cherries or strawberries I find way to sweet most vegatable I find way to bitter. stuff like peas and sprouts I can't stand the texture of. I don't have much issues with mixing foods together though like I often scoop up some mash with my sausage when eating bangers and mash

My son is dyspraxic and throws up when trying new foods... he's 7. Any tips ?

Keroc Ryghteous this is a tough one, ensure new food is likely to be a texture he will like. Introduce new food in small amounts to help him get used to it

So I might have dyspraxia but I don't do this? I don't like the texture of grainy foods (hummus or mashed polenta), which sucks because I LOVE the taste of hummus. I can't have tomato sauce/ketchup on mashed potatoes, and I like my sausages plain (Mum gets gourmet flavoured one and they taste so bad). I love trying new foods though - Mexican, Korean and Japanese (NO SEAFOOD) being my favourites - and aside from dukkah, I hate the taste of Middle Eastern foods.

"its a disability, sort of" basically how I explain it every time I have to, cause it is a disability, but I'm not disabled.

Beans, yogurt, and oatmeal. Really anything with those consistencies for me. I like the taste, but they make me want to throw up. Man bodybuilding is tough rn
