I have mild suspected dyspraxia (it's hard to get diagnosed as an adult in the States so I haven't tried - I'm diagnosed ADHD, though) and about half of this is sooooo relatable. When I'm tired, my voice goes monotone and people think I'm angry at them 💀 I'll shout or whisper and not notice. I also often will say things like, "I need to go move my clothes from the oven into the dryer" - I'll sometimes mix up just, any device for automating cooking or other housework.
The biggest issues I have, though, are with spatial and time processing. I can't remember a map the second I look away from it, so I can navigate with a map in my hand while turning the map as I turn, but otherwise I'm lost. I navigate using memorized paths that are essentially a two-dimensional video playing in my mind. When I see a specific 2D "image" (landmark from a specific angle), I know to turn left or right or continue straight. If it snows heavily or I'm taken just one block off my memorized "path", I can become lost in a familiar place. My roommate is the opposite and makes maps in his mind without trying, so he didn't understand that to me, there's a difference between turning right at my usual place and turning right two blocks earlier. The difference is between me feeling comfortable and me having to hold onto his arm because I'm totally disoriented and distressed. So now we go on my paths as long as they're the same length as other paths! And if there are shorter ways to get somewhere, he shows me and I learn the new path, too.
Pokemon GO has been amazing for my dyspraxia-related spatial issues because it shows me on the map, facing the direction I'm really facing, moving the direction I'm really moving, with landmarks with PICTURES all around me! I don't need to know the street names if I know, for example, oh, that Pokemon GO gym is the church up there with the nautilus pediment clearly visible, so if I walk so my character moves toward that gym, I will be walking toward the church and thus walking toward the subway station entrance.

I really wish there was more awareness in the states. I wish there was a community I could meet up with here besides talking online on a Facebook page. I've never actually met another person with Dyspraxia and it's made me feel alone through the years.

I learned that something like 30% (iirc) of people with ADHD also have dyspraxia. If you start talking about your symptoms with people who have ADHD, I bet you'll find someone who is undiagnosed! It's just not a common diagnosis in the States, which frustrates me, as well. But I've met a couple people who have my symptoms almost 100% with only an ADHD diagnosis.

There's an irony to the 'laziness' label when you think about it... Why is it that the professional doesn't understand why the Neurodivergent person is behaving different? Probably because they haven't bothered to do a little research. So basically, its a case of 'You're lazy because I can't be bothered to ask a few questions and do a bit of research'

Some paraprofessionals may know certain things but this word is under diagnosed especially in women and girls. I was born with it and labeled by others as autistic and mentally retarded which doesn't qualify for my beliefs and experiences with Dyspraxia.

Oh my the copying from the board one was huge for me, I’d end up having to stay in during lunch and after school for most days near end of term times- my teachers could tell there was something up but I would still need to complete the work. My arm gets tired I struggle with self care/grooming it takes me HOURS to do an ok job at makeup. And ya internalizing being called stupid lazy and useless for most of my life. Still getting frustrated with my self and having better and worse days. Appreciate those who take the extra time/ have a natural way of dealing/helping. Thanks for the video!

I have dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, ADD .... I still now in year 11 have teachers think I’m stupid and lazy. I had a school report come back recently where a teacher blamed the class not listening and me disrupting the class. I am the only student who actually tries and listens it not my fault that everyone else gets it on the first time. I am the only student who listen . But because I am chronic ill and have education needs I’m easy for the school to blame there problems on. And unfortunately this happens to so many people like us.

I felt so stupid and inadequate my whole school education, barely passing some of the exams despite putting in so much effort. I have been the student who was making notes and had to read it back to understand it but there was no time, so had no idea what was being said. I was the student who misunderstood the question and failed even though the answer was correct to the misunderstood question. I was the student who didn't know how to start or what was being asked of me despite knowing how to do that stuff. Life was sad back then ...As an adult, I still get frustrated that I'm not where I would like to be, but at least I don't have anyone proving to me time and time again that I'm wrong. Now, I'm fighting my son's corner, with my poorly structured sentences, feeling inadequate again, but this time I will prove them wrong! Thank you for the video!

I just would like to say fair play on the work that you are doing and hard effort you are putting in for Dyspraxia. Before I developed schizophrenia paranoia and psychosis and before I was medicated, I had plans and began to even write about my life and write a book maybe even an article for parents to spread awareness of Dyspraxia and to raise awareness about how to manage their dyspraxia children. However this was many years ago and any way it seems like you are already on this mission so I don't need to worry about it or focus on it! I felt like my Dyspraxia left me when I was on a spiritual journey but maybe it was always there in the background! I am enjoying your content. Good work!

See, for me, being told a hundred times isn't something that puts me off. I think my ego and intellect tell me: 'No, they are wrong: go prove it wrong.'
It has fuelled me, but perhaps because as a male it is different. Anger fuels me and the feeling of injustice. I have often won.
Also, I don't get the motor issue with muscles. I have been an athletic top guy at school.
However, I have suffered at work and school and Uni when learning. I learn in a different way.

What you said about writing notes in class is so true! It's the story of my freaking life, always had that issue. I'm learning now (having only learned at the beginning of 2019 that what I have is indeed Dyspraxia, cause my parents got me help but then didn't tell me till 2019 that Dyspraxia is what I have, in an attempt at me avoiding stigma or something) but anyways, help wise in school I got very lucky with how good of help I got and it's quite honestly the only reason I graduated at all. Starting in elementary school I had a computer that was mine to use and practice typing on (was the 90s so it was on of those big colourful macs), and starting in middle school TA (Teachers Assistant) was assigned to work with me specifically and basically take notes for me in class, they also switched me over to a mac clamshell laptop in middle school so I had that the 2 years of middle school and all 4 of high school. I'm realizing though these days that my experience is not the normal one and I got incredibly lucky, that people around me realized early on that writing by hand wasn't going to ever be fast for me, but if they could get me typing on a computer, then I could do it. And the theory proved to be true, I can actually type quite quickly and with minimal errors, but even if there are errors it doesn't bother me cause I can always go back and fix it, can't do that writing by hand, not neatly at least, lol.

Very relatable! Thank you for making this video. I've also had issues with driving. Learning was hard, and even after, there have been multiple incidents with mailboxes, and that one time I thought I was pressing the brake and pressed the gas instead and rammed the guy in front of me. Try explaining how that happened to people. As a child, I was told I was smart enough to build a tv, but then would not know how to turn it on! As an adult working as a teacher's assistant, the teacher called me a turtle behind my back. Got constantly yelled at by customers and chefs back when I was a waitress. Makeup, folding clothes, cutting vegetables: all disasters, and like you said, there are too many things to list, but that's a sample of how dyspraxia affects/has affected my life.

The funny thing is I got dyslexia and dyspraxia, I have all the same problems when I was at school as well dyslexia problems! With dyspraxia to me it more to do day to day living eg walk into door, drop thing and most things you say on what you talk on! Dyslexia is more problems written think down and reading which could do with both! Lost place which read and just do not go in! I use my hand to talk as well! Keep doing your good work!

I’m trying to educate myself about Dyspraxia as my 14yo son has similar issues. I am fighting the school and the gp for help to diagnose him. I don’t mind what the label is whether dyspraxia or something else, I just want him to get the help and recognition he needs. The school work and memory problems you described are very much in line with my sons, but he is ok with physical stuff. It’s hard to describe in a few lines, but he trains in parkour so is very physically fit and is great at what he does, but with people he has no spacial awareness. He also excels while gaming and likes streaming but can’t transfer those fine motor skills to handwriting.
He was fantastic during lockdown as I had to homeschool. Being able to take things at his pace and 1-1 meant he really took in the information and was so proud of his achievements. I wish I could do this all the time but unfortunately it’s not possible. Being back at school is really tough for him and I want to help as much as I can. Any tips would be so appreciated 😊
