One important thing this shines a light upon is the most expensive maintenance is deferred maintenance. If that were the case here the tragedy can be blamed upon those who should keep shore side equipment ship shape and Bristol. RIP to the deceased. The water cares not for man's follies.

This is tragic, apparently they were warned of problems and safety issues with the gang way and attachments to the Ferry and the dock .Why didn't they let the Gentleman at the end speak on camera.? What did they know and when did they know about this ? My heart breaks for all the victims and their families. Just a complete tragedy, apparently that could have been avoided. Thank you Cap'tn Andy for your continued coverage😥😥😥
I know you don't like politics, but here in Denver, Colorado we have no representation from the various boards and commissions. It's basically the same situation. I don't think the commentary by the residents is out of order at all. .
it sure appears to me that the natives of that land have been ignored by any government, unfortunately this seems to be the new narrative for every thing now , emergencies of any and every kind God bless all
The Gullah-Geechee in McIntosh county have been done dirty for many, many years. Harris Neck and Sapelo Island. Bless the victims of this tragic incident.
I’d like to see NTSB or USCG investigate this incident. Seems like there are lessons to be learned here that may escape notice. PS - dock and gangway were constructed in 2021 according to published reports. Seems a “Catastrophic failure” caused a gangway to collapse. What happened?
Has ANY State or Federal Gvt spent ANY MONEY AT ALL ON CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE FROM ANY DEPARTMENT WHO IS BUDGETED WITH MONEY YEARLY DESIGNATED FOR THAT SPECIFIC PURPOSE?? My goodness! We don't have a road that's not in pieces or potholes, a safe bridge or dam or water systems that aren't laden with poisons and lines that are falling to pieces. I hadn't heard about this and exactly what valuable minerals are they after there?
As an Englishman I'm kind of struck by (and a bit angry at) the amount of time all these civil & political representatives spent on invoking prayer and god! I suspect the back story to this accident and the future will demand rather more action on: oversight, inspection, finances and so on. I'd have felt it would be more appropriate for the representatives to address and promise on those fronts (including tangible help to the survivors & bereaved). Prayer seems to me to be even cheaper than talk, and we know talk is cheap. I'm thinking also of memes where people shout "Jesus take wheel" instead of taking skilled and resolute action themselves. It was also (to me) kind of callous to go from "sorry your family died" to "we'll get over this and move on" with barely a breathe in between. I can almost understand the sentiment (especially from a politician) but time & place guys, time and place! And again there was little tangible help offered - - medically, financially, investigation, justice, etc - - just political hot air and prayers.
The power of religion to help ease individual suffering for a affected individual cannot be denied when religion is the base for their own lives. I prayed for the lost souls and it made me feel less stressed about the event.
@@MinorcanMullet Sorry, Dear Andy, but the public's reliance on their religions to feel better is what their "leaders" rely on to keep pressure off them--leaders/government. As you can see, push back starts immediately by the PIO guy instead of acknowledging a need to look into the "public's" feedback given here.... This is why most of these types of "reporting" events not only start off, but also continue throughout, with thoughts and prayers as the most recurring theme.
Action and investigation is absolutely called for in this case in addition to prayer. However, as an Englishman, you may not be aware that this general graphical area of the world and the Gullah Geechee culture tend to be people of deep faith. Speaking about prayer and lifting up prayers would have brought comfort to many in the wake of this tragedy.

How long was the Aluminum Ramp from the structural dock fastenings to the ramp landing?? very unusual to see an aluminum access ramp to collapse in the middle. I think you will be looking at the age of the "ramp" and the Corrosion over the years.. I think you should have paid heed to the man who told you it was in bad shape back when.. I think one of them said it was installed in '21 so age and deterioration shouldn't be an issue, obviously with a gangway your first question should be what is the capacity.

Ramp/gangway slipped off floating dock at low tide. I'm sure the added weight was a contributing factor
It was NEW! 2021
Sadly if half of these resources were used in preventative measures these tragedy’s wouldn’t be so numerous.

I am beginning to wonder if they were just too many people on the ramp at the time of collapsed
All ramps have some sort of loan limit
Well, if the ramp was 2021, it's not old. However, salt is corrosive to some grades of aluminium, and there's no sign of the top bearing.
