I bought 2 new reals. Same models. Both had the same dog problem new out of the box.

Thanks for the great repair video. This reel looks very similar to the Penn Warfare and the setup on the double dogs. I guess the repair would be comparable to the Penn Warfare Reels with the double dogs and the instant anti-reverse.

Hey brother. Not sure. Can you record it and post in on your TH-cam account so I can see what's you're doing and what's happening? Reply to here when you post it (you can always delete it after).... just say that "it's available" and I'll check. DO NOT mention a video or provide a link.... TH-cam is pretty particular and may delete your response without me even seeing it.
I have the 20lw and when I pull on the line with with it in gear and any amount of drag set it skips and the handle go backwards. Make a clicking sound. Definitely coming from the handle side. No the line out alarm isn't clicked in.

I purchased this exact reel on a combo. Finally got to take it out on a trip and the drag doesn't function at all. I threw on my bank sinker and couldn't even reel up the sinker.

Hi, thanks for the upload, this was the exact problem on mine - both dogs were all bent up. One problem i've having though, is the main drive shaft (the brass bit the stack goes on) is really wobbly, any ideas what's causing it? It moves side to side around 5mm. Im kind of wondering if that's what caused to dogs to get bent in the first place.
If that amount of movement is happening after the reel is entirely reassembled, then something's probably wrong. Check parts #41, #41A and 98 on the schematic for wear and/or fit. Yes, that could be a contributing factor to wear on the dogs.
Wouldn't a new reel like that be under factory warranty? Or did your customer not want to send it back?

I don't have enough experience with it to say that the part sucks. Remember, many of the reels I get need repair, so I don't necessarily see them at their best.

Thanks for checking out the video. If it's doing it while still in free spool, could be a bad bearing, or something damaged/loose in your levelwind system.
Mine wont go from retrieve back to free spool for some reason
Take it to your local repair shop.

How do you know what parts to buy if I were to take one of mine apart cause i can't even find what kind of reel it is I bought a ugly stick Camo rod and reel combo and after 4 catfish that were pretty big my drag won't even work if I let go of the reel handle it just starts getting taken back the other way with the line and I've never had this happen so don't even know where to start and the reel only says shakespeare on it nothin else
Thanks for checking out the video. Sounds like the anti-reverse on the reel has failed. It can be difficult to source parts for those combos, so you probably can't fix it yourself, but your local tackle repair shop might be able to if you take it to them. Otherwise, the best course of action is to purchase a new reel. Sorry I don't better news for you.

Man new reel and something is wrong with it
Thanks for watching. I suspect it wasn't really new and the guy who brought to me to fix was mislead about it being new. However, defective parts are still possible, even if it were new.
A bout one year ago I bought a new penn 9 m casting reel I used for a couple of hours the reel locked up bad I brought it back to wear I bought it very disappointed to say the least
