  • Firebird or Camaro? Which do you prefer? I know I'll take both. I've always been fascinated by the Firebird, but as the brother in the shadow of the Camaro, I believe it never fully gets the recognition it deserves. All the way in from Vermont, Adam Strang's ride is a staple of the 1st gen Firebird family and what a deal he got when he snagged it! Let's take a ride with him down track while he discusses the ins and outs of the car, engine, clutch, and transmission.

    Damn that's a beautiful car. Gotta love Stock Eliminator, a drag race/car show/party all rolled into one. Pro Class cars are so homogeneous now but the Stock classes are the TIT'S!! Thanks for another awesome interview my friend, Semper Fidelis.

    Very cool car more rare than a Camaro of the same generation and what makes it cool is it's Pontiac powered GTOs are cool but to me this is even more so being a Pontiac 400 powered pony car

    Been a Pontiac fan since my Dad picked up a '62 Grand Prix, 389 Tri-Power, T-10 4-speed when I was in the 9th grade. Used to watch John Angeles run his Firebird at OCIR and Pomona. The guy was a phenom when it came to making a Pontiac run, in addition to being an extraordinary patient man while I was drooling over his '69 Air-4 Firebird asking question after question after question. Thanks for the video my friend, good stuff! 👍 👍

      @@driverinterviews 1984 was the last season at OCIR, very sad indeed. Used to be so many drag strips across SoCal and now they're all gone. I can't even watch the NHRA Pro classes anymore, but I absolutely love the Stock Classes. Backbone of the sport, no doubt!

    Firebird 400's and GTO's came with a Pontiac 10 bolt rear axle. Probably the best 10 bolt ever. With after market parts they hold up well. With 12 Bolts being reproduced it's easier to buy a new axle housing. Nice car, and a great guy. Thanks Bobby.

      The 8.2 bop rear is weak, even the corporate 8.5 is stronger.

    • @RealDougFields
      @RealDougFields ปีที่แล้ว

      The early cars came with the 8.2 10 bolt that was a piece of junk. The later 10.5 10 bolt was the one that everyone used.

    • @RealDougFields
      @RealDougFields 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 8.2 was junk. It would not hold up to any real power at all. Every Stock Eliminator Car ran either the 10.5 corporate rear or a 12 bolt (if rules allowed) . The 1967 Firebirds with the 8.2 did have acool Factory Ladder Bar traction aid that was pretty cool.@@1972Ventura455ho

    To run this engine with the OEM D-Port heads, Can you use the RAIV heads/intake setup although car was not born with it has those parts on these cars.?
    68 had the #96 Round port heads, 69 the #722's.

      It's a radical cam with stock lift as measured. Probably using "launcher" lifters that can actually open the valves more than the lift on the cam will provide. Alot of tricks in these "Stock" drag engines. Those flat tappet lifters probably cost more than a complete roller cam setup for a SBC.
