I'm convinced that almost nobody but the best of the best of DMC players can actually kill every chess piece without resorting to this method. I've only been able to do it once before finally getting ended by the boss rush afterwards, dying so many times to the point I just finally gave up. This mission is ridiculous and I've been stuck on it for almost a year due to its sheer difficulty and it's probably not even going to be as painful as Mission 19 will be, much less the final Vergil fight. Thank God I found your video man.
You know, not to perceive your comment as a challenge, but I dont think I've ever cleared out the chessboard on DMD without taking damage.....that might not be a bad video idea. But this Royal Guard strategy cant be touched (no pun intended). Its simply the quickest and safest way to get to the terrifying boss gallery and risking a triggered King is not worth the effort. For stylish purposes, theres an argument for it. But for my style of play, it's not worth mentioning clearing the board out completely.
@@DevilMayAsian I'm the first to admit I'm not very good at this game. I'm probably an above average player, decent at best, but I'm no master at it that's for sure. And I've tried almost a thousand times by now to beat this mission without any tricks. I like to go all in, full out assault style until I finish the job completely, but this is the one instance I just can't do that. If you can post a video of you taking no damage from this section that would be lit, I'd be interested in seeing how you do that. But as of now your method is the only one I know that has worked for me and without it I don't think I'd ever have progressed beyond it like I have now. So again, you have my thanks. All I got to do now is beat the boss rush.

There are some significant applications to DT with different weapons. Rebellion DT gives a general boost across strength, defense, speed, and health regen. Cerb gives a massive speed boost. A&R gives a defense boost. Nevan gives a health regen boost. Beowulf gives a strength AND defense boost, more so than A&R. So when I Release on the King, I DT with Beowulf to give me some extra juice. I think 20% extra power. Never Release with DT'd Rebellion, as that only gives you a 10% boost.....if memory serves. When you do a costume change that impacts Dante's trigger form (classic Dante), his stats get averaged out and doesn't change based on what weapon he's using. So that 20% Beowulf boost gets watered down to 12% or so. But that 12% is applied to Rebellion and possibly Cerb and the others. But I prefer a 20% bump over smoothing the other weapons out, which is why you never see me with a Classic Dante/LDK costume. This is all based on PS2 research. I don't know if these stats carried over to the HD collection.

If there is a mechanic, it probably involves basic chess movements, like the rook's positioning?
Holding the Devil Trigger button will cause individual runes to glow red. When you release it, depending on how long you've held your DT button, an explosion will be released and cause massive damage.

I super dante on this mission and equiped Nevan as a weapon to abuse Air Raid+lightning ranged attack to focus on the King, I spent 30 mins smashing the gun button but the King hp is not decreasing wtf!!! I can't pass through this mission because im not good at royal guard. I dont know if the lightning attack doesnt do anything at all to the King or the damage is so minimal that it only do about 10 damage per hit and the king has around 1 million hp.
I did the same thing and managed it so my advice would be to take out the bishops, I think they heal for more damage then nevans gun attack will do, so if you take them out the King should fall, it will still take forever but if you don't care about rank then it works.
@@WinterFox1000 The problem is that the rooks keeps summoning more pawns, knights, bishops, and rooks. So it goes on forever. I tried to take out the rooks first, but before i could kill 1, they will summon 2 more.
@@neloangelo7297 I know it's been several months, but in case you still have problems with the Chess part, here are some good tips. 1. A normal jump has invulnerability frames up until Dante starts falling down. If you use Swordmaster or Gunslinger, this is probably the only good way to avoid damage. Rolling is a bit risky, so only do it if you're confident you can dodge something. *Be careful with the double jump since it doesn't have iFrames. If you wanna double jump, remember to do it only when Dante reaches his highest with the first jump. Using double jump too early will get you hit sometimes. You can avoid this problem by not mashing the jump button.* *Sometimes, it might be easier not to double jump at all. This might help when you fight Arkham and his stupid missiles.* 2. Even if you use Trickster, you can still pull off some good damage with jump cancels and certain attacks, like Beowulf dive kick and and AgniRudra air attack. *Don't forget DT explosion.*
@@TrueSangerZonvolt thanks for the tip, but what i did is just farm a lot of red orbs in bloody palace and then buy a lot of healing and devil trigger items, ised royal guard and try to stack damage with the help of healing items and then DT explode to the king and royal release. There is no honor in that but i want to get past it lol
@@neloangelo7297 In that case, there's an easy way to practice Royal Guard if it's still hard to use. The video even shows this too. Just block in the middle of a roll or normal jump. The iFrames basically guarantee you a free parry.
