My personal recommendations are Gravity Rush 1 and 2. These games not only have a solid story told in a comic style, but it features a female main character who grows so much during the story, going from a confused lost girl to a strong heroine. The music is fantastic and the art style is so good too. All of it is improved in the sequel with larger maps, more places to explore, two gravity styles and even better musical tracks. I am so sad that we’re likely not getting Gravity Rush 3, these games are so good and I would love it if more people played them.
Did you not like Star Ocean: The Divine Force? The ability to explore vertically with your Duma ball really opens up the maps and makes the game a blast to explore, especially the towns.
Nier: Automata at #1 makes total sense to me; it's a masterpiece. But not seeing a single Bayonetta game on the list was a little jarring, especially with Astral Chain at #6.
@@daikatton As per my previous comment, if you don’t consider Bayonetta an action RPG, you should hold that same opinion about Nier: Automata and Astral Chain.
@@likenedthus I can't speak for Astral Chain as I don't have a switch but Nier has RPG elements. You level up, earn and upgrade gear, do side quests, loot, etc. Bayonetta doesn't have RPG elements. It's an action game not action RPG. Nier is an action RPG. DMC isn't on this list either for the same reason.
Very interesting list! I'm missing games like Tales of Symphonia and Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, as I feel they are arguably better than the other series compatriots that were included in the list, but it's also awesome to see titles like Astral Chain and Vagrant Story given love. And you'll get no argument from me for the #1 spot, Nier is one of my favourites of all time.
No place for Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom ? Other games worth a mention: Folklore, Tales of Vesperia/Graces F, Ys 8, Tokyo Xanadu, .hack//G.U. Last Recode, God Eater 3, Final Fantasy: Type-0 HD, Toukiden 2 and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.
Can someone recommend some good jrpgs that are like tales of arise I want to buy the trails games but they are way to expensive right now for me and I bought Zestiria but was kind of disappointed I liked the story but the battle system was so confusing unlike the other tales games wich were easy to understand. Either that or recommend some good horror games as I've played almost every old and new one that's came out I'm about out of options.so if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them thank you.
Maybe try gran blue fantasy? it's kinda like tales of arise, although the story is not as deep. As for horror, you can go with silent hill 2 or alan wake series
I bounced off of nier automata pretty hard sadly. I came more from the dmc side of things originally and was expecting more of an action game so I found the combat a bit underwhelming. But I've recently been playing Scarlet Nexus and loving it, glad to see that made the list, and now I'm thinking about checking out the tales of series next some of those look pretty great. And of course I'd love to play ff16 that looks amazing but sadly no ps5 so I'm waiting for whenever it gets ported to pc.
Stranger of paradise AND NEO TWEWY?! Holy based list Its a shame only like 6 people played Neo, it's one of the best JRPGs of the generation, it really deserved more attention
Thank you for putting so many classic in this list. I see you prefer star ocean 3 than star ocean 2, and that's okay for me 🙂 keep making the great list
That is the worst list ive ever seen, what the hell is strangers of paradise doing on there its not even top 1000, till the end of time over 2nd story? its an all time, masterpiece, crack its a hell of a drug
What a weird selection. I mean, some you choose are definitely typical fan favorites like nier automata or the Final Fantasy VII and Tales of games, but others feels rather obscure. Sure, games like Fire Emblem Warriors and Kingdom Hearts 3 are okay, but "Best Action JRPGs OF ALL TIMES"? Are you really sure about that?
The last few final fantasy games were not turn based so to bring that up doesn’t make sense. Also the identity of final fantasy games is party based gameplay, mechanics and management. That’s what is lost in the new release and replaces it with the identity of DMC. Not saying it’s a bad game but what FF 7 remake did is keeping true to the identity not FF 16. I for one don’t want to see the series go this route. I’ll play a DMC game if I want DMC mechanics.
dont see why ppl praising ff16, its not even an actual ff game at this stage, so far away from originals, they should of just called it something else instead they just milking the FF name. They are really targeting the "i dont want to think, just mash buttons , herp a derp generation"
FF16 has a lifeless world, endless cutscenes, boring sidequests, flimsy RPG elements, uneventful towns, etc. Even the combat as flashy as it is, every fight can be won the same way with the same spamming abilities. Number 2 lmao. After its sales they won't make another one like this.
Disagree the game looks and feels damn good its way better than the last Final Fantasy games except the FF7R ofc And it sold impressively for an PS5 exclusive like 3 mil in 1 week just dont expect like FF7R numbers on PS4 like 5mil in one week cuz its FF7 plus they will make another actionJRPG because this is their 3rd one and the repeatitive arguement doesnt hold any water when any game can be repeatative too
@@dxtremecaliber The moment I Played the demo I bought the game digitally. Many people did the same, especially now a days when its most common to buy digitally. It was a deceptive demo. I don't care if the game is action or turn based as long as it's a good FF game. I did enjoy FF7 remake. Sure, many games are repetitive but FF16 gave you no breaks. It was cutscene after cutscene. With FF7 Remake at least you were able to strategize, and fights played out differently. FF16 every fight can be won the same way, it's just spamming abilities and waiting for cooldowns.

Those two games are in my heart forever!! For me, Gravity Rush is a masterpiece ❤
Great list! FF16 being one of my favorites this year for its combat alone and boss fights.
You putting Brave Fencer Musashi in the list shows you have good taste!
Especially Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core Reunion, Jade Cacoon, Final Fantasy X, Legend Of Dragoon & Wild Arms 2
I was gonna say if Brave Fencer Musashi isn't on this list I will be sad, and it was the first one! :D

Vagrant Story & Alundra 😊

Bayonetta isn't an rpg though

I love the Musashi Series. I wish Square Enix would bring it back along with Dew Prism
Great video i love it, some of this games i didnt know, so i subscribe immediately.
Alundra is actually more action adventure than action RPG, but it doesn't really matter. It's a really good game and I still have it on Playstation.
Vagrant story definitely makes this list. Thank you for recognizing. This needs a remaster.
Absolutely!
Such an underrated and too much of a forgotten game. It was solid all the way around. My favorite to this day.
Muramasa sword have super fluid combat with is pretty rare in jrpgs
Included Musashi? Already liked :)
Thankyou for the recommendations bang ✌🏻😁
did you ever play Infinite Undiscovery for the 360 pretty fun game that i dont see meny people ever talk of or list.
I haven't tried it
Where would you say ni no kuni 2 revenant kingdom?
Probably top 30-ish. Not because its bad, but i just don't like theme of ni no kuni series as a whole.

My favorite action jrpgs are Brightis on ps1 and Tenerezza on xbox.
NEO: The World Ends With You visually looks a lot like Viewtiful Joe, which is cool looking.
What is the game at the very end ? thx !
