Completely agree. I started these games with Trails Of Cold Steel, but less than a half hour in I noticed that game was part of a series. So I decided to put that game on hold to start with the first entry - Trails I The Sky. It was the best decision I ever made. I played all the games in order (Sky 1, 2, 3, Zero, Azure, Cold Steel 1,2,3,4 and Reverie) and had a great time with them. I can fully recommend this game series!

VERY GOOD list. My 1st JRPG was on the XBOX 360. Lost Odyssey. From there I was hooked. Western games are great. But a well done JRPG can't be beat. These are the games I lose myself in. And yes, Granblue Fantasy Relink is totally amazing. I'll be playing this for a very long time.
You should honestly get into the Blue Reflection Ray Anime and play the Blue Reflection games. All of them. They are masterpieces worth getting into. And exploring the world of Blue Reflection.
@@BerryLeeBarbie I agree. Ao-Chan is amazing. You should try the first Blue Reflection game, Blue Reflection Ray Anime and Blue Reflection Sun games. I highly recommend the rest of the series if you never tried them yet.
@@brigadeleaderharuhisuzumiy8589 second light is all I’ve played. I was wondering if the first and sun were worth it. I already added ray to my watch list.
@@BerryLeeBarbie The first Blue Reflection game and the Blue Reflection Ray Anime is what got me into the Blue Reflection series to begin with. The boss battles in the first game are God like beings known as the Sephirot. The Vallians in the first game have more personality than the boss monsters in Second Light. I love both games. I love how in Blue Reflection Ray Anime it has some funny scenes. And you get Magical Girls who are Vallians known as Rouge Reflectors that the good Reflectors fight against. The storyline of Blue Reflection Ray Anime lead the way for the Ash Syndrome to happen. Blue Reflection Sun has the girls fight against the Ash Syndrome. And Tie Second Light shows scenes that referenced the Anime. Like Uta Komagawa in Tie, Second Light is a nice person. In the Anime she is a psychopath who loves to be in pain. And inflict pain upon others. The rest of the series is worth getting into.
I am with you with the Blue Reflection games. I really loved the first game for the whole atmosphere and music. The second game is a huge improvement of the first game. Watching the anime is not needed, but it does not hurt. You have to watch it before the second game though, because you will see some characters from the anime in the game (as you will see characters from the first game). Blue Reflection Sun, however, was a huge disappointment for me. Not only was this a mobile gacha game, but also it introduces a male protagonist that completely clashes with the Yuri-ish style of the previous games. In the previous games the girls where very close to each other and in one case even openly had a relation. In Sun all of that went overboard, and the male MC had all the girls mindlessly crawling at his feet. So yeah - Blue Reflection Sun killed the whole franchise for me. It made me feel sad and angry at the same time...😢
Ive played every game in this list and although you listed a couple of games that I wouldn't put anywhere near a top 10 (which doesnt matter since this is your list, not mine) You absolutely have great taste. The variety alone shows me you play a lot of jrpgs!

I thought I was going to die an army of one, in considering Trails in the Sky to be the best entry in the series and one of the best JRPG's of all time. I found your video today and I'm VERY happy to be proven wrong! So many RPG's get lost in scope creep and ever-exploding stakes. They're a mile wide, and an inch deep. Sky (lovingly called "TitS") shows exactly what's possible if you decided to do more with less. It has a focused cast, in a tiny part of the world, with stakes that are high enough but not world-shatteringly high. Instead it explores its characters, has some of the best dialogue ever written for video games, and as you say, just shows itself to be a real masterclass in world-building. I can't name another RPG quite like it. It's a masterpiece.

I really, REALLY like what Granblue is going for and I liked the demo HOWEVER there are times when the combat design feels just ever-so-off. Like the speed that you run, the slowness of the camera when rotating around your character and the way the lock-on camera zooms in and out kinda sporadically, and the way the explosive and particle effects take over the screen to the point that you sometimes cannot see an attack until it hits you - because you can’t turn the camera around FAST enough AND the dodge animation is so odd compared to other games. You can cancel animations by dodging but you can dodge forward when you are knocked backwards. I really hope they patch it with something that makes it feel more smooth.
I swear some people on YT after playing Granblue. A pretty good game, have a fun time, and immediately try to sell it as the pinnacle of a genre. There's dozens of JRPG considered masterpiece before Granblue out there.
FF14 is the best narrative in the series to me next to FF7 and FF6. Shadowbringers was just a legendary story arc. FF14 is an RPG MMO not an MMO RPG to me.
This might be somewhat blasphemous, as I don't think I can come up with a full 10 because my bar for "masterpiece" is pretty high, but mine would be: - Final Fantasy 6 - Vagrant Story - Final Fantasy Tactics: WotL - Chrono Trigger - NieR Automata
Solid list. I believe Chrono Trigger is the GOAT, and knocks out Cross from the list. Same goes for Xenogears knocking out Xenoblade and FFVII ousting FFXIV. But still a good list. I really appreciate you adding Granblue Relink in there, it's a masterclass in character design and personality. The story is only above average, but those characters are chefs kiss. You should try Vandal Hearts (the first one) for a really great SRPG
As a person who recently played FF7 original, so I have no nostalgia for it, I dont consider it the best final fantasy game. It might be because I played both Chrono Trigger and Xenogears literally back to back to back with FF7 being the last one for me to play. I wasn't burned out or anything, the two before it just kind of overshadowed FF7 for me. Also, FF14 is most definitely the best FF story of all time and this is coming from someone who hates MMOs.
@@joeyisabsb1 I love 14's story and gameplay, but did you play 11 too? For me its story, difficulty, and music still has it higher on my own list than 14
So sad I have not gotten to play trails in the sky yet😭😭 don’t have a PC unfortunately so I’m still here hoping the sky trilogy makes its way to the switch some time in the future. Absolutely adore the rest of the trails games. Is the remaster of crono cross on the switch worth buying a physical copy of? Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to play the original. Not really a switch game unfortunately as it’s my fave final fantasy game in the series. However I still find myself hoping to see final fantasy 13 get ported to the switch 😂❤ These may not be all JRPGS games, however their my top 10 favorites so far. 1…Haven 2… Nier Automata 3… Unsighted 4… Star ocean the second story R 5… Xenoblade chronicles 2 ( TBF all of them are great❤ 2 is just my favorite) well X is but no switch port😭 6… the legend of heroes trails of cold steal 3 7… Harvestella 8… Atelier Ryza 2 9… Nights of Azure 2 bride of a new moon 10.. Trails of mana
I missed the boat on Earthbound. I don't know why but didn't play it when it first came out. And I'm not a fan of not seeing your characters in battle. I enjoyed the heck out of Chrono Cross when it first came out. Loved getting dual Einhanzers (spelling?) for Glenn. SuperDerekRPGs absolutely loves Chrono Cross. His favorite JRPG I think. I enjoyed Sky FC and Sky SC. I don't know if I could separate them as games. I'm going to play 3rd chapter this year. Making my way through Trails. Slowly but surely. For me I'd definitely put Rise of the Third Power on there. Persona 4 Golden.
try radiata stories its underrated game and typically a masterpiece is just sad that it only has a low fanbase and almost every jrpg lover dont know abt it
The newest final fantasy really took me by suprise. Yes the battles were insanely amazing but I think it has one of the best stories in the series as well as the best characters. Clive is bad ass and the relationship with him and Jill was done so well. The last dragon quest game was pretty great. The last ys game is amazing as well. Im replaying the final fantasy 7 remake right now and that game is to me is just something special. It stands out .
I stop Grandblue because the next day, i receive Persona 3 Reload... And i had to go for a second turn ( speed run). For some reason, with all the new stuff, i miss like 1 week to have the last s. link! So, yep a speed run because miscaculate my time for the last trophy! So, i'm waiting some days to relax, before jumping back to Grandblue! so far, it's a good game...but on the easy side! unfortunately i'm at the 6 acts...so...I will probaly make a second turn and put it on the high difficulty! I seen people asking for a Persona 4 remake... I personaly thing Persona 2 should have one! But 4...they already done the Vita G. port...who's been lately port on PC ect... This game is already pretty much polish! I don't really see what they could add to it! Except new visual! I just hope than Atlus will not do the new trend and go with a Persona 3 Reload FES with the famous-quote unfamous story...
This is all nice and all, but I wonder how much-- and by this I'm implying that at least a decent amout is there, recency bias is involved in your decision making here
I agree, I can't tell you how many times I've played a game thinking its one of the best games ever only for a year to pass and I decide it was definitely recency bias and that the game was good but not as good as I initially felt. Breath of the Wild might be one of the best examples, I remember thinking it was my favorite game of all time when I was done with it only for me to now think its not even in my top 10 and also decided its not even my favorite Zelda game! 🤣
Persona 3 Reload? Is that recency bias? It's not even the definitive version of Persona 3 lol. Personally think Persona 4 did everything that Persona 3 did way better and had superior characters/story but I guess it didn't recently get a remake...Apart from that....Final Fantasy....Not any in particular, just Final Fantasy lol. A lot of the list sounds like a "games I played growing up that left an impression on me" over games that are a masterpiece as very little description if what justifies that. All we get is a quick blurb on how much you liked it.
Ppl might think it’s wild to see Granblue Fantasy Relink on here but I don’t think it’s crazy. That game slaps!!!! Great list!

Granblue is so good!
However I still find myself hoping to see final fantasy 13 get ported to the switch 😂❤
These may not be all JRPGS games, however their my top 10 favorites so far.
1…Haven
2… Nier Automata
3… Unsighted
4… Star ocean the second story R
5… Xenoblade chronicles 2 ( TBF all of them are great❤ 2 is just my favorite) well X is but no switch port😭
6… the legend of heroes trails of cold steal 3
7… Harvestella
8… Atelier Ryza 2
9… Nights of Azure 2 bride of a new moon
Persona 4 Golden.
try radiata stories its underrated game and typically a masterpiece is just sad that it only has a low fanbase and almost every jrpg lover dont know abt it
On psone: xenogears, ff7, suikoden 2 and then star ocean the second story. Is remake is really so much better?
I think so! I really enjoyed the remake.
As a huge fan of the original so2 (and the others you mentioned), yes, the remake is much better while staying true. It's worth a playthrough or 3
As hard as it is to believe, the Remake Blows the PS one and PSP versions out of the water.
it's a crime not to include Suikoden 2 in this list.
Good list. I think Dragon Quest XI is a no doubt masterpiece as well as Lost Odyssey and Disgaea 5. Also I would sub P3R for P5R but tomayto tomahto 😂
No Ys VIII? :(
Granblue is definitely not a masterpiece but it has potential.
Solid list, not sure we needed the MMO there tho
Ff14 story is so incredible that i replayed the whole game 2x just for the story. It is THAT good. 😂
Is there some reason why you don't tell what platforms these games are available on?
great list for me to get my shopping list.
No Dragon Quest?
I think i need to finish my xenoblade chronicle
List does not include Suikoden 2: 9/10
Disappointed there is no DragonQuest XI S :O :O :O
This is all nice and all, but I wonder how much-- and by this I'm implying that at least a decent amout is there, recency bias is involved in your decision making here
I agree, I can't tell you how many times I've played a game thinking its one of the best games ever only for a year to pass and I decide it was definitely recency bias and that the game was good but not as good as I initially felt.
Breath of the Wild might be one of the best examples, I remember thinking it was my favorite game of all time when I was done with it only for me to now think its not even in my top 10 and also decided its not even my favorite Zelda game! 🤣
Just add sponsored by granblue relink lmao
no mention of earthbound 1 & 2 remake?
Bro did you just basically make the same video twice?
Xenogears
tales of arise ?
Persona 3 Reload? Is that recency bias? It's not even the definitive version of Persona 3 lol. Personally think Persona 4 did everything that Persona 3 did way better and had superior characters/story but I guess it didn't recently get a remake...Apart from that....Final Fantasy....Not any in particular, just Final Fantasy lol. A lot of the list sounds like a "games I played growing up that left an impression on me" over games that are a masterpiece as very little description if what justifies that. All we get is a quick blurb on how much you liked it.
He clearly talks specifically about Final Fantasy XIV, are you sure you watched the video?
Too much marketing speak in your script, man. Like tell us what the games are actually like.
SUIKODEN
Ys ?
Reload ? 😂😂😂
final fantasy 14 online and money grab
Chrono cross SUCKS. LMAO
List immediately starts off with a game that I find super overrated 😂
Biased piece of crap of a toplist
