My farts are better than Whangâs farts ðĻ
I still have my copy of ff3. If you play with play with Gau im the veldt, you can fight a white dragon. Beat it and fight tritok. Beat it and you get 99 of every item, even items not in the main game. Agiest shield, agiest gloves, helm, armor, gloves. 99 x-box'es. I've bgeen trying to tell people about this for years. Every char can attack 10 times. My stupid brother deleted my file but its there I SWEAR!!!!!!!
CORRECTION IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET MEW IN POKEMON RED & BLUE
You are one of my favourite content creators.
I love FF6 too, it's a legend. but kefka is such an overrated villain haha. Destroying the world, sure, but hes just creepy clown man and that's it, never got the appeal. The whole rest of the cast is damn good though, 7/10/12 are funner to play but 6/7 definitely have the best story
General Leo. My brother swears he did it on the SNES to this day. The look in his eyes, if it ever was a lie, he believes it now.
Bless your bro for keeping the magic alive âĻïļ
My farts are better than Whangâs farts ðĻ
Your brother named Chris lol. Jk, Chris didn't have any siblings. I SWEAR I PLAYED WITH GENERAL LEO LOL WITH MY BEST FRIEND CHRIS ONE SUMMER.I had to pause and give my testimony lol. am like oh shit mandala here we go again.
I haven't even watched the video but I already knew lol. Looking forward to seeing how the video goes
Kefka is a Hall of Fame villian, EAZY AS KILLING AN ENTIRE FREAKING TOWN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN INCLUDED. DUDE WAS COLDER THAN THAT FUCKING KNOCKOFF SASQUATCH THAT THOSE LITTLE DEMON BASTARD MOGS TORMENT. COLDER THAN LOCKE GIVING CELES ONE OF THE COLDEST SHOULDERS EVER.
These damn young uns talking about "demon ðŋ time this, and ðŋ time that" WELL PULL UP THEM BRITCHES AND GET ME A DRINK AND ILL TELL YOU ALL ABOUT THE ORIGINAL DEMON TIME, KEFKA.
Every time you seen this guy he was being AN. ABSOLUTE. MENANCE.... HE WAS OD, NO CHILL, MASK OFF AT ALL TIMES WHILE CACKLING AND YOUR PITIFUL ATTEMPTS AT STOPPING THAT WHICH WAS HIS DESTINY TO OBTAIN AND TO CONTROL. Just when you thought this asshole couldn't out do himself. INSERT HIP MEME OF KHALID "Another One" to establish yourself as the Walter White to these young gun Jesse's running around... These kids could never "dude your getting a dell"!
I have similar memory about beating the postman in ocarina of time. He gave me a heart piece. It is so vivid in my mind that I truly believe I stepped out of an alternate reality where it was possible.
"Reviving general leo" is a badass band name
Where is the lie??
It really would ðððð
My farts are better than Whangâs farts ðĻ
General lee would be better than leo
How about stillborn unicorn?
Aeris's extra limit breaks was a red herring to make the player assume she stays for much longer than she does. According to Hironobu Sakaguchi they always planned to kill a major party member off from the start of the game's development. This wasn't the first "main party member dies partway through" plot element they introduced. In Final Fantasy V for example main party member Galuf dies in a battle against Exdeath. However his fight against Exdeath is portrayed as a heroic sacrifice where he dies fighting. Whereas Aeris's death is essentially treated as the character being murdered out of nowhere.
They said about it that they originally planned to kill off Barret but decided against it as they felt most players would probably shrug off Barret's death. But killing off Aeris was more interesting as the player would definitely be attached to the character and would react to her death in a much bigger way. Sakaguchi said about it that killing off a major character was a goal with the game as it was inspired by the untimely death of his mother and how he had to essentially pick up the pieces and keep going in spite of a major person in his life dying suddenly.
That motivation is unbelievably sad, true, and captivating at the same time.
If you have aerith in your party most of the time it's quite easy to max out her limit breaks, and considering you get her ultimate weapon super early too I did feel something was up on a meta level
â@@Roboshi2007. Not necessarily, you need to spam a lot of her limits. Also, most people would probably stick with Healing Wind and Seal Evil.
Also, about her weapon, there is no way to know that's her final weapon unless you had a guide or something.
Poor Barrett.. Iâm glad he lived but I guess itâs because people didnât care enough about him
But you really can bring her back it was just discovered, not too long ago

The Aeris rumour that ruined a whole summer for me was that if you got her to level 99, she'd be too strong to die in that cutscene. I grinded for so long just to be let down!
that would lowkey be really funny tho.
Some years ago, there was someone on a grind to get cloud to lvl 99 in the first reactor, where all you fight is wolves...
âThey managed to it both cloud and Barret before first Scorpion boss.â@@SilentProti
I remember that one
I remember that one
The idea of Locke suddenly changing his mind and choosing Leo instead is hilarious! Square should definitely add it next time they port the game.
10/10 would be glad to see it
I mean there's probably a dozen other characters they could give you the option for as well. Tons of characters experience perma-death in the game. It could be pretty interesting.
And add a good game too
I love you, Rachel, but you also don't have shock.
Final Fantasy fans _really_ aren't too keen on letting go of their beloved party members, aren't they?
thats what happens when games are written well my man
It's like, omega levels of cope.
It's not just Final Fantasy. Phantasy Star II (or IV) are in a similar case.
The PSII remake actually allows you to revive a certain character, but the steps seem as insane and random as any playground rumors.
XC1, too.
RIP my homie General Leo.
He was a real one
ðĒOn the dead generals, cuh!ðððĪðĪðĪgang gang
Kefka: mwahahahaha hate hate hate hate hate hate
i remember rumors to revive Leo by fighting in Thamasa and using the invisibility spell and then x-zone to 'pull him out of the afterlife' or something.
I can see that developing when someone figured out x zone always works on invisible mobs
Never clicked on a Whang video faster. Leo is one of the coolest characters.
Agreed. having just come off of ff4 I always wondered if Leoâs crystal sword was the same one that Cecil had..
Like as soon as I seen this in my push notifications, I left the room I was watching a movie with my wife and kids to watch this lol
RIGHT?!
It ripped me little elementary school soul out when he got murkt
Damn I never expected to see you cover General Leo. God tier. Thanks as always brother.

Gau can legit use Leo's Shock attack through one of his rages, Yojimbo.
I was looking for this comment.
I remember stumbling into that and was legit a wojack lol
Hi there! I'm glad that we haven't purged our forums for 20+ years!
Please never do, I used to frequent them a ton
Mew WAS coded into Pokemon. It was a give away for attending sponsored Nintendo events. Or at least is was supposed to be. If you had a gamegenie you could use that to generate whatever pokemon you wanted tho. I had a gamegenie and access to the internet before it was common. Figured out how to make whatever pokemon I wanted with whatever moves I wanted . Ended up with a side hustle selling Mews at school for like 25$ each .
Profit.
There was also the whole thing with the nugget bridge. That's how I got it for my son.
25 each? Jeez man, count for inflation and that's like 40 big ones. How much did you end up making
Damn. Boi really got his entrepreneur on early.
We all remember the infamous truck by the SS Anne. I remember the first time surfing there and being so excited that there was an actual truck there. I tried to do everything to move that truck or try to open it. I remember being certain that the keys for the truck was in the Celadon Game Corner, one of the slot machines says "someone left their keys here...." Good old days!
Sure you did, kid.
One of the main things that I think of when I hear FF6 is how it's indirectly connected to Sonic.exe
I can't believe ppl are STILL using the kefka laugh in exe games, it's so corny now lol
It's a corny laugh, but it's also genuinely hilarious
You have no idea how depressed I felt when I once saw a kid online refer to it as the "Sonic.exe laugh".
playing ff6 for the first time after knowing abt sonic.exe was eye opening
Sonic.exe has so many other examples of that, too. Dude really couldn't convey scariness unless it was in the form of something scary from another game. Like yeah, the narrator immediately recognized the music as the Giygas fight from EarthBound but reversed, sure.
Loved this as it was very close to my heart. Me & my big brother were Action Replay hackers from the UK named the "Lemon Brothers", famous for our codes early on in the SNES scene, so much so lots of our codes made it onto the actual cards provided by Datel with new hardware revisions of the Action Replay. Our most famous code was we were the 1st finding the 97th "Test Coin" Level in Super Mario World which we provided in the UK magazine "Super Play". When Final Fantasy III/VI came out we turned our hand to trying to make a cheat code for having General Leo in our Party after his death, but it was def glitchy as you describe in the video! Other fun things we tried way before that was saving Tellah in Final Fantasy II/IV, who dies casting Meteo because he does not have enough MP. Fun fact with an experience point cheat, Rydia can learn Meteo right at the start of the game which is pretty funny as she is meant to be afraid of fire, so the game code only does not let her learn Fire 1. Anyway thanks for the video brought back some lovely memories of my childhood =D
I remember once having a dream where I had found a simple and obvious solution to saving Leo. I remember waking up and being so frustrated that the details were slipping away before I could write it down.
Not sure if this comment is gonna be seen, but back in the day, Game Trailers had a show called Pop Ficiton where they tested urban legends in games. Through a series of steps, you can have General Leo in your party for a period of time and he can even help in batttle. Granted, its short lived but possible.
Pop Fiction was a special little nugget of the Internet. Early 2010's, was a comparatively more innocent lad back when.
@@unlockablebossmfer Late 00s and early 10s were a great time to be a gamer online.
@@JBlingBlang BO1 online Multiplayer, nuff said.
Leo was dope as hell. Was so damn excited. Thought for sure he was just one of the MANY characters that VI featured. Rest in peace sweet General.
It amazes how much lore people have in the west when it comes to video game rumors, I remember being a pre teen kid in 2007 buying Final Fantasy Advance with the money I saved up. After seeing General Leo's death I googled ways on how to possibly revived him and saw a lot of forum discussions on the said topic. I even stumbled upon the Silicon Era article. Sad to say, fact checking wasn't much of a thing back then and I immediately believed some of those forum posts I read and tried replicating them, only to find out personally that they don't work. Having said that I really enjoyed FF6 Advance, having played FF4 Advance and FF5 Advance. Those trilogy made my childhood and teenage days bearable. It's fun to see people still discussing the 2D FF games haha.
"Saving General Leo" is my favorite Saving Private Ryan parody.
One of my favorite games of all time. There were so many rumors about this game; Shadow's extra cut scene, General Leo's return, the Hyperdrive sword, etc... There were more, it's just been so long ago I can remember them all. What a crazy time in the internet back then. Great video.
Until this video popped up I hadn't thought about the AOL games forum in years, but now it's all flooding back. Way before social media, and even before I'd discovered the UBB/vBulletin style boards of the internet proper, 90s AOL had this little hole in the wall discussion area that was the perfect breeding ground for rumors like this. Reviving Leo, getting the Triforce in OOT, playing Mario 64 as Luigi, all the classics that my adolescent self was still just barely dumb enough to believe. I swear I must still have printouts of some of those "guides" stuffed in a box somewhere, I really should dig them up for old time's sake.
I remember on those same AOL forums someone posted a doctored screenshot and claiming somehow Gogo really being Golbez from FF4 and you can get him to transform. People love propogating lies.
*_General Leo!_*
_- Hello._
It was a crime of passion!
FF6 is my favorite game of all time. I love any time you talk about it.
Justin: If you haven't played Final Fantasy 6 - Play Final Fantasy 6.
Me: If you have played Final Fantasy 6 - play it again.
Narrative death in Final Fantasy has always been kinda weird to me because all I can ever think is "Dude, use a Phoenix Down, pop a Life spell, _something"_
Even worse is non-narrative cases like in Final Fantasy X where in some circumstances, a petrified party member can be shattered, completely removing them from that battle and technically absolutely, definitely killing them, but they're suddenly back together and [mostly] fine after that battle
And then there's Dragon Quest, where characters are just straight-up coffins in the overworld if they're out of HP, but even then, a trip to the local priest solves that problem too, so how the hell does anyone die permanently outside of, say, being vaporized by a big ol' explosion [or having your body be inaccessible to drag over to a church]
I dunno, in-universe revival methods just kinda open up some plot holes when you take even a single step back to think about it, certainly something I have to consider with my own endeavors down the road
I'm pretty sure the idea of Phoenix Down and life spells is that your characters aren't dead but knocked unconscious.
You just have to suspend disbelief. Resurrection of party members via in-game mechanics only exists because it would be too punishing or potentially break the game if you couldn't do it, so when a character dies for narrative reasons you just have to pretend that option doesn't exist because as far as the story goes, it doesn't.
It does make ya wonder. Like, Aeris, I kinda get what with Sephi being as powerful as he is, but Leo? No way Kefka is powerful enough for those kinds of shenanigans.
Actually this is actually acknowledged in FF5. Without touching on spoilers, at some point in the game one of your party members dies fighting the final boss and in response (obviously) the rest of the party tries to use healing spells like curaga, life and even elixir's and phoenix downs up to no avail. still weird how they didn't incorporate that in later games tbh
@@iseegreen5297 if you play a healer in ff14, there is a scene where a story npc dies and you have an option to try healing but it doesnt work either, cause the aether damage is to strong (yes that scene.)
some kid told me that you if you finished metroid 15 times that she'd be naked so I skipped school a couple of days to see it but of course it was a lie. I still play ff3. the whole reason I bought a nintendo switch was to play it again. I am a little pissed there is no chrono trigger but I have that on steam. ff3 is one of the best games ever. it's funny how when i play it now it takes me back to how i felt playing it in the 90s. I love the story, I love the music, I love flying around in the air ship and i love the whole esper system. I actually hated how ff7 was linier where you could go where you wanted in ff3.
For that old school metroid zero suit I wanna say you had to use the pass code Justin Bailey?
Somehow in 1995/6 when Australia had no internet I'd heard Leo could be brought back by fighting 100 dinosaurs in the forest.
Edit: Was it ever brought up in SuperPlay magazine?
Final Fantasy III/VI wasn't released in Australia...
@@killer7smith inports and adaptors brother. Maybe thats why FF3 crashed so often
Actually the beginning is wrong. You can save aerith. Well kind of, there's an Easter egg where you can unlock her ghost in your party that was discovered like three years ago i think. From oddheader.
lol no.
That's fake.

Final Fantasy Six needs and deserves a reboot like VII got, heck Crono Trigger does too
My farts are better than Whangâs farts ðĻ
I wish. With Toriyama as the character designer, we might need to raise dead.
6 deserves a lot better. I really would have liked to see FF stick with turn-based combat and how it could have expanded it.
We don't want a chrono trigger remake right now, WE WANT CHRONO BREAK
guess what chicken butt?
i got a game even better
tactics is basically confirmed as getting one
Wedge and Biggs do not die. They get transferred to CronoTriggers world.
Absolutely loved this video âĪ
That music took me baaaaaack
Man that overland music in FF6 is like my eternal internal soundtrack
"Dinosaur" in English isn't that much different to the Japanese literal translation. It's made up of "deinos" -> terrible, and "sauros" -> lizard, both from Greek. While Greek had a separate word for "dragon" -> drakon, someone working in translation could easily come across what is literally "a terrible lizard" and come to "dragon" when assuming that the literal translation must be a bit off. If they know they're translating a fantasy game, they've much more likely to assume the "terrible lizard" refers to a dragon rather than a dinosaur.
Who's your favorite sonic character, whang
always seen him as a shadow kind of guy hope we can get an official answer
Maybe Vector
ððð
â@@JustinWhangYtI see you are also a man of culture.
Idris Elba baby!!
Final Fantasy 3 and Phantasy Star 4 really set the bar at the time.
I absolutely love yoshitaka amano, the artist for 6. And many many others
The old artwork for this beautiful game has lived rent free in my head since i was 12-13. I think a lot of us at the time used Leo, saw how fucking sick Shock was, and were instantly pissed he was ripped from us lol. Damm near all the music from this game is burnt into my memory and I've got dogshit memory. I heard every rumor as a kid and tried them all, believe me when i say i killed over 4,000 dinosaurs, well over. Experience Egg you are my only friend, alongside Offering and Genji Glove.
I just started replaying FF6 yesterday for the first time in 20 years and then this video dropped ððð
As a kid, I got fooled by the geocities website on how to revive Schala and Cyrus to be in your party in Chrono Trigger (Open up another whirpool portal in the Middle ages!). Even fell for the Aerith one, give the white chocobo in Mideel 100 Regen Greens and he spits out a Super Revival materia which you can use at the City of Ancients!
I remember following Elephantgun's Let's Break thread. It blew our minds to see that she figured out how to glitch into your party after he died.
Got this game for my 11th birthday, a few months after it released, and spent the next few years obsessed with it. I remember being scouring every single way possible to recruit General Leo and following up on the various gaming magazine rumors. Of course nothing ever came of it but it's still a cornerstone of my childhood gaming experiences.
Also remember Cid who you can save if you give him the right fish, so there's two savable characters that helped this narrative. If I remember correctly there were two extra spots in the character select screen too that never got filled.
Btw ff6(3) was my favorite one too, I think it had the best story of them all and I wish they would make a newer version like they did ff7, but that might be a gigantic ask considering everything there is in ff6.
Ironically, one of those character slots, actually, belongs to Leo.
If you have cheat codes to add Leo to the party you can see it, he is very safe to use because he has his own character slot.
What a wonderful time to be alive hanging out in AOL chatrooms making up all kinds of bullshit ways this could be done. Back when the internet was lawless and fun.
Love the less than âgrossâ internet stories/mysteries like this one
Donât get me wrong, I still love the strange and obscure. But a video game urban legend is a beautiful pallet cleanser
Terra's theme always gets to me, timeless classic.
When I was doing my conscription service in the military a guy in our squad was convinced you could play as Sephiroth if you found all the 1/35th Soldiers, and that Aeris/Aerith was revivable, even stating he'd seen it himself.
"I swear dude, you can do it"
"I bring you love" definitely hit my funny bone just right! :P
I was wrapped up in this conspiracy growing up, thank you for bringing it to light! My brother and I definitely slew a whole lot of dinosaurs for nothing!
I never once thought about saving leo and ive owned this game since launch
I love that I grew up in the same era as you. I totally understand the love for FFIII(VI) and Chrono Trigger. Great games. I still play them at least once a year. Same with other FF games like VII and VIII.
I lived through this in real-time. I had the game when it came out and this rumor was all over the bulletin boards and AOL and GameFAQs. And this was back before people could just datamine a game 24 hours after release. I kinda miss those days where anything could be possible.
I legitimately forgot how fucking cool Shock was. Unlocked an old ass formative memory.
Vicks and Wedge didnât die, they were warped to the Chrono Trigger dimension and put to work at Norstein Bekklerâs.
I remember there were urban legends surrounding finding Schala in Chrono Trigger as well, since there's no real explanation about what ends up happening to her other than Marle ends up with her pendant. I remember a lot of them having to do with Magus/Janus or his cat.
Of course that ends up becoming a major plot point in the sequel. Even before that the same outcome is portrayed in that weirdass satellite Japan-only add-on Radical Dreamers. Magus was also going to be in the sequel as Guile (because he is named Gil in RD) but they ended up making it a completely different character.
Rachel merging with phoenix is actually very important, it kinda tells you where espers come from, how theyre formed, etc.
5:17 I got the impression that Kefka wasn't evil by his own choice. He went bonkers from magiktek experiments that messed up his brain.
Yes! Please do more videos of your old passions. Nostalgia is prevelant and is reflected as such.
Merton isn't useless, it's by far the most powerful and OP spell in the entire game. If you equip everyone with fire shields or gear that absorbs fire, you can not only do 9999 damage each spell, but fully heal your entire party every turn as well
Just turned 20, been watching since around 2019, through most of high school, and continue to watch while getting ready in the morning, itâs always a must. Neva eva stop posting man, I love this content you dish out.
Finally, another gaming mysteries video. I absolutely love these. Especially since Whang is around my generation.
i was really hoping they would expand on the connection between general leo and terra in terms of her discovery herself and understanding her place in the world
Finally a video from you about FF6! I know you played this game a lot because of all the back ground music in your videos from FF6. Now we just need a River City Ransom video!
Gaming Mystery: You and me KISSIN under the bridge Whang
That Terra tattoo is awesome.
I feel like the only one of these video game easter egg urban legends that's **actually** true is that you can totally microwave the hamster in the NES version of Maniac Mansion (those silly Nintendo censors were lackadaisical in performing their job). I imagine in the 80s the fact you can do this in the most family friendly of video consoles probably made its way around many a playground back in the day and the lucky few that actually tried it out were rewarded with utter astonishment.
I loved this throwback. It's crazy how many people love this game... But really talked about it back in the day. At least where I grew up. I remember hearing about this rumor and always wondered if it was a thing. Thank you for this!
what a great video. the game has so much depth, loose ends and incredibly hidden story that it was entirely believable leo could be brought back. theres tons of theories about gogo being this or that character, or the shadow cut scenes that are easy to miss at every inn in the world of ruin, it really felt like someone somewhere would find something eventually back in the day
You know Justin is a real one when Chrono Trigger and FF3/6 are his #1 and #2. Legend.
So great to hear JRPG music in Whang videos again
I miss the era of video game urban legends! Much better days!
I rememeber hearing about this one before glad you covered this Final Fantasy game Urban Legend
I can tell you are a true classic fan of FF6, as my sister and I were. You pronounced Figaro exactly how we did as kids! A lot of people in our age group first encountered these words (in a personal capacity) through gaming, and brained up our own ways to say them. It created this generational phantom bond. haha
This just scratched an itch I didnât know I had. Ty Whang new best series.
was rewatching a lot of whang videos and got confused that i hadn't seen this one.. forgot new videos are a thing
Dang. Didn't expect this topic on one of my fav nostalgic games.
Kudos my dude.
Ahh love these types of videos from you!
I was able to revive General Leo back in the day. It was through Relm's sketch glitch, and he disappeared when I had to reset. But he was back on the battlefield for a bit. Close enough.
This reminds me of another online rumor about FFVII. I think it went something like getting 99 Masamune replicas from the roller coaster game in the Gold Saucer, and there was some way of either getting a real Massmune for Cloud to equip, or somehow getting Sephiroth to join your party. Of course that was a lie too, lol.
Bro, that Terra tattoo is badass.
Best Game and soundtrack ever!
I have the album kefkas domain lol
I remember i discovered the genji glove at the returners hideout and my friends who introduced me to the game were blown away.
Theyd finished it multiple times and i was on my second playthrough i think? Maybe even third...they had no idea. We had no idea, no strategy guide or internet..
"Will you be mankind's last hope?"
"No."
*Gets legendary item*
My childhood right here.
My favourite dude covering my favourite character in my favourite game. Something I never expected to see. Amazing.
In the Brave New World fan patch, Celes gets a relic that replaces Runic with Shock. Due to the way the characters and enemies are rebalanced in that game, shock ends up actually being fairly significant in terms of strategy, as it gives you a strong source of dependable damage against enemies that often have special defenses.
I never heard that one either. I just remember rumours about extra characters from the coliseum and reveals about Shadow.
Back in the usenet era of Final Fantasy rumors, I was always more interested in the various ways that people claimed you could return to the World of Balance after the floating continent sequence.
Interesting. I thought there might be a way to prevent his death/bring him back, but I never had a clue how to do that. Cool to hear various ideas people had and the reasoning behind them.
I love how the Espers are like this cool beasts, warriors or colossal creatures. And a fucking cactus with a twirly mustache ð
Silly the best way to revive General Leo is to cast Vanish on his corpse then cast Life2
I love this game so much. First time I played I left Shadow to die, not knowing you were supposed to wait on the Floating Island for him. When I discovered that after having saved the game post World of Ruin, I started the entire game over because no way I would continue onward having left behind a character I could save. Absolutely worth it!
Itâs a Final Fantasy game that doesnât get near enough love. Iâd be willing to see a faithful remake, but given what they did to Final Fantasy VII, Iâm in no hurry.
I feel like what happened to Final Fantasy VI was that it was really appreciated for a brief time, but it quickly got overshadowed by other games. It also hasn't helped that Square Enix has focused a lot more on FFIV over the years.
The story of Locke and Rachel still gets me in the feels ðĒ
I have a Celes tattoo.
