I've currently got a fault on my Peugeot 3008 where the BSI has malfunctioned and is causing the battery to drain completely overnight (something isn't being told to power off by the BSI itself). Peugeot want £700 to fix it so I'm going to try a reset of the BSI and see if it fixes the drain. Hi, thanks for the video! On my P5008 (2012, Petrol 1.6THP, Left Hand Drive, 7-seats) I have recently only the following lock/unlock problem and only during winter: while pressing the lock/unlock key button, the car seems to get the signal (because the led [P] on the parking lever turns on) but the locks don't lock/unlock. Everything else works fine and even lock/unlock problems disappear when weather gets warm. So, I assume my lock/unlock problem this is because of cold weather and humidity. Can you please advise which components or cable connections are prone to humidity or watertightness issues? Thank you in advance. Gregory
Ok, you can start by cleaning the car battery's poles, then clean all the main cables attached to the chassis (negative). Then remove, check if there is bad connection or corrosion and reinstall all the fuses and reles.
@@WhatTube Ok, I will do. Besides, I would appreciate much if you could also advise where I should check for any exposed cables or cable connections, regarding cables routing from or to the BSI. Finally, please let me kindly remind you that the malfunction I have described above happens only when locking/unlocking the car and only during winter. Thanks again!

2 years ago on my C4 mk2, when the RAC connected jump leads and removed the red tag on the battery positive to make sure the leads were connected... This action of connecting jump leads and removing the positive caused the fault to sound the alarm everytime the doors were locked with the fob, I had to lock with the secret key to stop it from happening. I tried some of this, door closed, window down switch off disconnect battery. reconnect battery and then press lock button, there is no key ignition only a fob start button, but when I did that the alarm immediately sounded. This method did not work on the new C4. I had Citroen do it they said they uploaded a new BSI software to fix it. To clarify, removing the battery positive with the engine off, did not cause this fault. The fault only occurred when the RAC had charging cables attached but also at the same time disconnected the battery. I think this is what caused the fault.
It's always better to remove the negative terminal first. If the battery needs to be charged remove completely the battery and charge it. This method is working on the C4 as well but in your case the RAC mechanic damaged some components that's why it didn't worked for you.

Excellent video. Please continue to post more videos. I have a question regarding disconnection of the battery for post 2016 Peugeot 308. According to the manual, it says before disconnecting the battery, the doors and windows should be closed and wait 2 minutes before disconnecting the battery. I guess this is to put the BSI to sleep. However, I have seen many instructions including this video to leave the windows open so that the side lights can be turned on. So I am not sure if the newer models BSI are detecting the state of windows open or closed position. Any thoughts? Thanks. P.S. The peugeot 308 manual for 2016 model can be found online.
L Emech thanks, You need to open only the drivers window, if you don't leave it open before disconnecting the battery you can't reset the BSI and you can have various electric problems. Even the older BSI can detect the windows but if you wait few minutes the BSI enter in "sleep mode" then you can disconnect the battery. I hope that is helpful. If you have more questions let me know. Thanks.
Thank you for your kind response. I guess what I am not clear with is: 1. What is the difference with closing the doors and windows and after connecting the battery, wait 3 minutes then open the door to reset the BSI versus, leave the windows open and turn on the lights to reset BSI. I thought as long as the door is open after connecting battery, the BSI will reset. Or should a higher current draw be needed, then open the door followed by turning on side lights. 2. Is it necessary to always do a BSI reset after disconnecting the old battery and replacing it with a new battery? Or, the BSI reset is carried out only on a need to basis like there are problems with BSI. Thanks again.
L Emech 1. If you close the doors and windows then reconnect the battery and wait 3 minutes, then you open the door, in this case you are waking up the BSI by multiple functions (doors lock/unlock, door light, interior light, dashboard operation, ...) If you open the windows and after reconnecting the battery you switch on the light, you are turning on the BSI with only one function, so th BSI can't be "confused" by multiple operations. 2. Is better to do it every time the battery is changed but is not essential.
You say put the drivers window down but what if that is one of the problems like you have said above (Windows stopped working?) So how can you do the correct procedure and reset the BSI?
I left the light on in my 2010 berlingo and now it beeps every 15 seconds even when the ignition is off. Everything still works. It's just so annoying. Any ideas?
Good video. Got couple questions a) Can you disconnect the battery at either the positive or negative terminal. I have had Eco activated, Engine needs repair, gearbox fault and parking brake fault all in space of a week when I start car initially
Hi thank you. a) yes you can disconnect the positive terminal. b) the Eco mode might get fixed, for the others you need to check for any faults stored in the ecu.

Great video! I have a Volvo so I don’t know why I’m watching but thanks for showing this. I will try this i if I ever have a Citroen or Peugeot that has these problems.
Well don't be so pedant! If you have a Volvo, it's quite possible that you also have a Peugeot /Citroen engine in it! Particularly diesel, for which Volvo's have pretty much close to 100% of Peugeot/Citroen in it's guts! On petrol it's just loose components! ;-) Either case Independently of brands and models. 100% of modern cars have computers (ECU's) meaning that some might need a reset on occasion. Just like your computer at home! As an example a basic 3 cylinder Peugeot 107/Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo has some 7 or 8 modules. On a car that doesn't even have electric mirrors! Any run of the mill Peugeot from 15 years ago can have >20 separate modules ! With this said I have/had several Peugeots and Citroens, NEVER purposely reset them! Because, quite honestly, it's rarely needed. Many drivers tend to do it as a "cure all" solution! From low tire pressure, to old battery. LOL 😂

Hi thanks for the vid, I have two questions: 1 ) Does this clear the learned adaptions of the ECU? I.e. can I use this to reset the adaptions after installing a new VVT and chain , without the need for a diagnostic tool ? 2 ) does this clear fault codes ? Many thanks
Hi 1) yes, this method will clear some of the adaptions learned but not all of them. If you replace just the timing chain usually there is no need to reset but for the VVT you need to use a diagnostic tool. 2) This method does not clear fault codes, in some cases the light may not show on the dashboard but the fault is still stored in the ecu.

THANKYOU! My 2003 Peugeot wipers stopped working. It spent 2 weeks at the garage - they tried a whole bunch of things to fix it but gave up. I’ve just brought it home and tried this as a last resort and boom. Wipers are working again. Can’t believe it!!
Great 👍
Thanks for video. Problem I have is that the lock button on my key doesn't work (I just lock it manually). Is there any way I can perform the BSI reset without doing the "Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds." bit? Thanks.
Yes, just skip that point.
@@WhatTube 👍 Thanks, will try that.
@@MrWibble
Hi , did the bsi reset worked for you even you skip the holding key lock button step ?? Because for me its the same case i have no central loking at all neither from the key nor from the lock button
@Wipols Walid Didn't try in the end as someone I work with suggested this - 'Switch lights on & disconnect the battery & leave for a while (I left it for about an hour) to totally discharge the system, then reconnect'. That worked for the problems I was having (no speedo/odometer, random engine management & PS lights & horn operating by itself even when car was locked & I was no where near it!). I guess it's basically the same sort of thing as the BSI reset process in the video. Hope this helps. :)

Hi,
Did you try to replace the battery in the key fob?
@@WhatTube Yes, but with the same results.

There's another cause of non-start and ECO-MOD display. If you replace the Key Shell, you must also locate the key code chip in the old shell (a little black chip in the corner, easily missed) and move it to the new shell.

No, the transponder chip does not need any connections, it can be easily removed with just the fingers, sometime can be dropped accidentally .

L Emech thanks,
You need to open only the drivers window, if you don't leave it open before disconnecting the battery you can't reset the BSI and you can have various electric problems.
Even the older BSI can detect the windows but if you wait few minutes the BSI enter in "sleep mode" then you can disconnect the battery.
I hope that is helpful.
If you have more questions let me know.
Thanks.
Thank you for your kind response. I guess what I am not clear with is:
L Emech
1. If you close the doors and windows then reconnect the battery and wait 3 minutes, then you open the door, in this case you are waking up the BSI by multiple functions (doors lock/unlock, door light, interior light, dashboard operation, ...)
If you open the windows and after reconnecting the battery you switch on the light, you are turning on the BSI with only one function, so th BSI can't be "confused" by multiple operations.
2. Is better to do it every time the battery is changed but is not essential.
WhatTube Excellent! It’s all clear now. Thank you very much.
You say put the drivers window down but what if that is one of the problems like you have said above (Windows stopped working?) So how can you do the correct procedure and reset the BSI?

Well don't be so pedant! If you have a Volvo, it's quite possible that you also have a Peugeot /Citroen engine in it! Particularly diesel, for which Volvo's have pretty much close to 100% of Peugeot/Citroen in it's guts! On petrol it's just loose components! ;-)
Either case Independently of brands and models.
LOL 😂
crpth1 i do have a PSA engine in it and I’m not stupid I do know that stuff so don’t need it explaining to me like I’m fucking retarded.

1 ) Does this clear the learned adaptions of the ECU? I.e. can I use this to reset the adaptions after installing a new VVT and chain , without the need for a diagnostic tool ?
2 ) does this clear fault codes ?

1) yes, this method will clear some of the adaptions learned but not all of them.
If you replace just the timing chain usually there is no need to reset but for the VVT you need to use a diagnostic tool.
