    • @derekfromtauranga6012
      @derekfromtauranga6012 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this is in the Kaingaroa Forest, mid North Island NZ if I’m not mistaken. These trucks are running on private roads within the forest so I don’t think weight limits apply and they don’t piggy back the trailers. Correct me someone if I’m wrong here!
      I drove on some those roads in the 70’s in a MK 1 escort in car rallies. One rally was particularly tricky as it rained just before the event and most of the top seeded cars crashed out due to the greasy roads from oil and diesel spills from the trucks. The first time I crashed off the road and hit a tree as the car rolled and the second time we were leading the 1301-1600 class and had an engine failure on the very last stage. Great memories from those days though.

      hi mate i was on loggers in Kroa a few years ago, hiway truck 4 axle trailer pulling off highway loads, thinnings (for pulp) around 54t, logs up to 67t.
      Some of the off highway units are able to self load the first trailer as shown at 17:30 cool set up but very costly. most of them run trailer down.
      All roads in Kaingaroa are private so no weight limits.
      They are running triples in there since this video was posted.

Not an easy life working vehicles an loaders and chainsaws but the men have years of experience and a quota to meet of a day. Seen the work daily growing up in the area of Taupo carting logs on these stretches of road. Around the back blocks they end up on the main roads so just all have respect for these mighty machines. I think you are right to be concerned about the destruction of old growth and virgin forests.
      What you see here is Pinus Radiata from production forests that do a rotation in about 24 years. They grow extremely fast, and like weeds if unchecked.
      That being said, while New Zealand has woken up to the value of leaving native timber standing, it wasn't always the case. It would be all gone if some people had their way.
