+bereegratis Are all of you guys living under a massive rock all this time? Auto Express, or most magazine channels for that matter, never show the timed lap. They always show the "extra" lap with the timer on the screen. Doesn't mean the lap time was set on that lap.
8 seconds is massive in racing terms. Perhaps cost to track time is not a favourable cost measure as it would seem you need to spend a crack load for those gains. Each to their own. Me personally i wud upgrade everything short of forced induction and im happy
I'd take a second hand GT86 and pus some bigger wheels and better tyres, maybe a cold air intake and a remap and it would be perfect.. And it would cost roughly as much as a new GT86..
i thought the time difference was going to be greater, i get 8 seconds faster laps with a modified MX-5 NA vs a stock one without even touching the engine. thats on a 1.08 vs 1.16 Lap.
Thank you. Just something I wanted to know as well. Stock 86 (usable road car vs Heavily modified 86 (boosted, airo & strip out track car) the difference on track : )
Fun review! More of these please. The guy could probably lose half a second per lap just by lowering his daily salt - and beer - intake. Bloated motorsport FTW!
500hp from a stripped out car redesigned for racing with aero, nearly slicks is only 7 seconds faster than a 200hp roadcar on prius tires? Ok maybe it didn't have 500hp that day, but a 340hp Porsche Cayman is 10 seconds faster than a GT86 around the top gear track, though it maybe a longer track, proportionally that would have given it a faster time than this car today.
At 4:43 he puts his helmet on only for that corner? haha
Hahaha wouldn't have noticed
great catch! It is obviously staged then ... autoexpress is losing its mind slowly but hell of a lot surely ...
+adamgreen222 Well, Steve was a professional race driver and was a rookie of the year of the BTCC back in the day.

Love the Gt86/BRZ. Not the fastest car, but it makes a lot of fun to drive!
A transit van is fun to drive.
you mean...not the fastest "out of the box"...until you modify it!
Nice video - the Fensport car looks fun. Surprised it wasn't even faster though with 500 hp, R-comps, BBK, weight reduction, aero, and suspension.
+Edward Choe put it on a different track and it would be
+Edward Choe this track is too tight, the 500 hp was barely used.
I'm a happy puppy knowing my stock 86 is only 8 sec slower than a 500HP track prep one. lol
adding on good tyres makes a few second difference on the stock 86 alone
I agree with Fang Lee

I want to see the Fensport GT86 vs. the Huracan around this track
"nearly 8sec faster"
and that is why Steve is a racing driver, not anything more difficult on the brain..
I would say 7.1 sec
+theMotorweb the .1 rounds it up to 8.... don't you know? :p
+H Kone :D
Let's let him off with that 86 was so fast he couldn't think straight :p
Ethanmeister haha maybe, but he should hold back from commenting then:)

it would be nice if more specs on the race car were included, like weight, tires, suspension, etc...
Great review auto express
"There's only one way to find out"...I think of Jonny Lieberman, which is odd since Sutcliffe usually tries to sound like Chris Harris.
Changing gears in the Fensport would drive me mad, I would love a sequential gearbox but that one is silly. It's like a slot machine.

New shirt Steve?
I expected a greater time gap. 8 seconds is only tyres and suspension of a difference.
+supermotardmario free country numbnuts. Been racing rally and off-roading for years actually.
We eat this stuff up! YUM
the turbo 86 shaved most of it's time on the straight lines of the course.
Just 8 secs faster !!! A modified GT86 (brakes, suspension, weight reduction, tires) can be nearly 6-7 secs faster than a stock GT86
Gearbox sounds brutal.
Hahahaha i saw that. I was about to say that on board camera with no helmet, and outside camera he's with the helmet on. Why?
How is 7.1 seconds almost 8? Bell end
+David Lough - Yup i was wondering that when he said it! In Steve's own words 'What a tool!'
How about the additional weight of the chubby driver
"Oh my word", "what a proper" pommy git!
Fensport car looks cool and its fast
Fun review! More of these please.

I think track battles should only include cars that logically can compete against each other, not much of a battle otherwise really.
