      It wasn’t my choice but I’ll say this, it is absolutely not in a companies best interest to buy manuals. The majority of drivers who have had their CDL for less than 10 years are not legal to drive a manual. They have a hard enough time finding people to fill the seats, cutting out such a huge Chunk of the driver population would be stupid.

    • @jonlaster7686

      Dauminique The Dump Truck Driver, you make very valid points. I ran a transfer in SoCal for a while. Both automatic and manual. I have to say I hated that automatic. No finesse. Backing into the horns made you look like a rook lol.
      It’s definitely unfortunate the way of drivers and automatics. You lose a level of experience, not being able to control the vehicle on your own. But, it’s a sign of the times lol. Good looking kdub tho! Good luck, and keep that greasy side on the ground.

    Good to see the new rig. With respect to drop axles and air pressure, if you keep them at a minimum or zero, your rig air compressor is satisfactory to have those items that use air will have sufficient air to function. Only adjust the drop axle pressure when you need them. Enjoy your new toy!

    Just remember with that booster axle your gonna have a lot of tail swing and don't back up with it down you will twist the frame up like a pretzel and you will absolutely love the air ride suspension like riding on a cloud I always deflate the bags before dumping because 1 you are more stable and 2 after you dump if there is air in the bags they will over inflate and you will get no traction plus you run the risk of blowing up a bag and that scares the crap outta you

    Each drop pressure should be around 35 to 40 psi. Each drop axle more than likely rated at around 10,000 lbs. you should set them at the scale so you know what they are. If you get inspected by DOT and those drops are set to high, could cost you. Should say on the tag on the door jam what the drop axles are rated for.

    HI from Maine, enjoyed looking at your new truck. A couple of thoughts, ask your mechanic to add a handle to the passenger side fender of the hood, it will make raising the hood so much easier then climbing up the front of the hood. Your drive axles look to be on rubber bumpers for suspension, the lift axles use the air bags. Check to see if the lift axles come up automatically when you shift into reverse and do they all steer? The stiff leg should have pressure gauge as well. Lastly, I can't believe that you can only carry 82000#s for that many axles, I am good for 75900 on standared tri_axle. Enjoy the new truck!

    For real one awesome truck , really nice ! Hmm ..... air bags ..... I think the 1st thing you're going to notice when you actually start working the truck , is going to be how much more comfortable the ride is going to be . I spent most of my 21 years on the road in trucks with straight out spring suspensions and man were they ever rough riding . I noticed in the video you have a trailer air knob for setting the brakes , can you utilize that truck to pull trailers ? And you don't come across as a "dumb ass" at all . We all started out somewhere and learned as we went . The only true dumb ass is the ones who try to fake it and don't ask questions or take the time to learn when confronted with something new and over time that generally bites the in the ass to remind them they don't know .

    Hey I've driven anything from a long nose 359 and W900 to my current stub nose T800. One thing my dad taught me is not to open the hood from the front but rather from the fender by the wheel. You're pushing up on it from the side opposed to pulling from the front. Hope it helps and you save your back.

    Air pressure on lift axles changes from truck to truck but they usually run between 40 and 60psi. I have driven dump trucks before where I had to keep the air pressure around 50-55psi but currently I drive a KW T880 quint and I run 45psi on all of my axles, for some trucks that’s too low but like I said, pressure changes from truck to truck. Here’s a good idea I learned years ago about figuring out the right air pressure for your lift axles; whenever you’re going down the road LOADED with your lift axles down, move the steering wheel a little from side to side and if you feel the back of your truck kinda like loose or fishtailing, then you have too much air pressure on your lift axles and it’s picking up the back end of your truck. Back out on your air pressure until you feel your truck firmly going around the curves or when moving the steering wheel side to side. Gorgeous looking truck you have there though.

    Some mechanic's insight. The drop axles are air powered. The Strong Arm and dump are hydraulic and need the PTO that powers the hydraulic pump. Think of your new truck like a new pair of shoes or boots. You need time in it to get comfortable, but, then if will feel so good.
    Those 3 knobs likely adjust the down force on each axle to maintain proper weight on the steer axle plus DOT axle limits. Does Strong Super Dumps have a tutorial? Maybe they need you to make a video of setting the drop axle pressures. You will rock this truck....

    The box vibrator works well on almost everything......helps get last bit of asphalt out, sand and any gravel that is stuck in there with abit of dirt.....it however doesn't work well with clay, I always resort to asking shovel operator end of day to scrape box. Do not hold button for vibrator for long or you will burn out that unit, just do small spurts with the button. I think they are about $2000cdn from where I'm from, learned the hard way not to hold the button down. Not sure if you do snow removal but works well with that too. Don't forget to dump the air in your suspension when you go to dump, I normally flip pto off then flip the air suspension button once the box has reached the top. Nice rig! How many hp does the X15 have? You'll also notice with that motor and trans setup that its quicker then the 18spds....I know this because currently on a site with bunch of pete's that're all auto and they all pull away from me within the first 45sec, lol.

    Interesting fact about the drop axles. in New York you can't have the switch inside the cab, that controls the axles going up and down. the company had to relocate the switches on the older trucks to comply with DOT. Why you ask......Because its New York. Enough said. Beautiful truck by the way.

    • @bronc7789
      @bronc7789 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      tebame that is not correct. You can have the switch in the cab but the pressure regulator must be outside the cab. It’s easier move it all outside so most just do that. But the switch to raise and lower can be inside. See video at 16:20 those are the pressure regulators located outside

    • @tebame
      @tebame 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bronc7789 I don't have the rule book in front of me, but all I know is the company was forced to relocated the switch for the axles to the outside of the cab, and never touched the pressure regulator. They did what the New York DOT required. Maybe different states have different regulations??? I know the weight laws are much, much different. Nothing more fun than to be in production excavation with 15 trucks and having to stop and get out to lower the tag axle.

    • @bronc7789
      @bronc7789 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      tebame someone in your company read the rule wrong. It’s the pressure regulator that needs to be outside the cab. It states it right on your overweight permit. Dot if federally regulated. Nys has rules for weights permitted on there roads per axle etc. The overweight permit is where they stipulate the pressure regulator has to be outside the cab as that’s a Nys permit. Not trying to argue with you but I’m very up to date on this regulation. Just trying to help you get your switch back in the cab and your pressure regulator outside where it belongs so your job is easier and your in compliance. Maybe let your company know.

    • @tebame
      @tebame 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I went to the New York DOT rule book. This is the quote "The air pressure control valve for the lift axle needs to be located outside of the cab, and past the reach of occupants of the cab while the vehicle is in motion." I actually agree with you. sounds like somebody at work interpreted the Air pressure control valve as the up and down switch. they are individually located on the truck. The company is a heavy highway construction with just a few dump trucks as fill in work, so it doesn't surprise me that this happened.

  • @QuennevillesHaulage

  • @jgruen9854

    You only drop your stinger axle when you are loaded, need to set pressure based on weight. On a concrete mixer it’s lowered with 4 yards of concrete mix or more, which is about 16k pounds of concrete. My truck asks for 1400 psi at 4 yards, 11 yards or fully loaded requires 2900 psi. Using the stinger axle when empty or setting the pressure wrong can flip the truck as the weight distribution is uneven, putting to much weight on the steer and stinger axle. As for training as how to operate the tag axles as they can be dangerous if used incorrect. Nice looking truck though.

    Good evening from Scotland! This may be a dumb question but why don't the drop axles automatically drop when the main axle weight gets over max weight? Seems logical to be auto down and a manual override to lift if extra traction was required on the drive axles? Nice video and nice truck Dauminique. Have a good week!
