Quick tip; when pulling heavy and in 5th direct needing a downshift, stay in high range with your splitter in forward(o/d) position and downshift into that high low gear. That will save you from having to do a range shift plus you’ve a splittable low gear in high range. I use it all the time. I like to go from 3rd, range select to high and use that low gear. Split it and off to 5th. Makes pulling hills so much easier. Old timer taught me that many years ago.
@@KevvyB-u8v Low gear in low range can be used in high range and can be split using your O/D splitter. From 3rd gear flip your range selector to high and then go down from third to that low gear on the bottoms left of the pattern. I usually go into that gear around 10mph. If I’m in high range already and need to corner or recover I recover in that low gear in high range. That way I don’t have to drop down into low range. Works the same way on a 18 speed. Start off in a parking lot big enough for you to get up to 10mph and try it. Once you nail it you’ll find yourself dropping to low range a lot less. Also using low gear in low range from a stop pulling a hill off a light or stop sign can be made much easier by engaging the manual engine fan switch. That’ll help you get it into first gear. Many ways to shift a 13 and 18 speed. You need the seat time and practice to nail it.

I want to get into trucking over the summer because it appeals to me due to it being a man's job, an honest one. I could do internships that are focused towards my career, but I would at least like to experience trucking first. Love those Cat engines! I did flat deck Super B trailers all last year, and we had to strap (or chain) our own loads. Nice shifting by the way. Not everyone can shift smooth like that. This is why they have auto shift trucks these days. Nobody wants to learn proper shifting, and companies don't want to take the time to teach people who are reluctant to learn. They get tired of destroyed transmissions and engines. Real truckers are becoming more and more rare. Those Jakes are very nice!

Beautiful truck engine sounds really good, the jakes sound strong, that's a good jag on the trailer too. I worked on trucks and trailers for 26 odd years, pretty much all the maintenance in the small fleet was done by me, the trucks worked about 85 miles away from the shop, so I've done a little driving also. One thing I would do after I heard the 5th wheel close, I would not put up landing gear up or hook up the pigtail and gladhands until i gave the hook on the 5th wheel a couple of jerks to make sure it was latched securely before I hooked up pigtail or glad hands and cranked up the landing gear. I have seen drivers not check that the hook was good and solid and drop the loaded or empty trailer on the ground stretching the lines to the gladhands and tearing up the pigtail. It vs very hard to get the trailer off the ground once it is there. I have watched this happen, not good, I always gave the hook a couple of good jerks to make sure, and wanted the drivers to do the same thing, just something I noticed, be safe out there, people drive like their crazy or got their license from a Cracker Jack Box, just saying, peace out.
@@flintcreektransport yessir love the oldschool Kenworths I may still take the brand new older Kenworths today they still look good! This was so cool! Thank you!!!
Thankyou for sharing
That rig is fantastic I have a 96 Kenworth W900 flat glass dump truck B model CAT 425HP awesome looking rig
Nice !!!! 👌🏽
@@flintcreektransport yessir love the oldschool Kenworths I may still take the brand new older Kenworths today they still look good! Aside from the damn DEF tank and all that wiring and emissions BS, I don’t mind the Cummins X15 engines they are decent.
I can’t stand the Paccar the DD series Detroits are pretty nice.
My previous job has a rotator wrecker with a X15 Cummins 550HP manual transmission 18 speed. 50 ton truck. 2016 389 Peterbilt. Liked running it.
Other wrecker was a 2005 Kenworth W900L that previously was a large heavy haul rig had lift axle frame was long because of it. It became the first rotator threw a ‘17 75 ton century rotator body on that truck. C15 CAT making over 700HP in that truck thing was a monster oldschool rig new school towing apparatus thrown on it. Run the remote control move the boom around all the coal came out the stacks I miss that truck I drove it and their 2001 W900L lowboy rig 3406E CAT that had or a 6NZ I think. They got some sweet rigs I miss that job but it’s too much on me the hours and back breaking work I had enough of in my teen years I want to go home and relax for once. I stay local with my business and mainly we are on the road we do construction work when jobs are available for now we have dump trucks and flatbeds. Trucking until I buy more shit lol gotta rack up the funds big.
Wow! 3.50s. !! Here 4.10 are the fast gear! We use 7 axles and haul 57.5k kilos

Justin. Ran into one of your trucks in monaca pa on Wednesday, he was loading coal. Very nice unit. A little bit heavy, but very nice. I told him I'd tell you he drove it with kid gloves!
🤣. Haha. I’ll have to harass him
Nice truck, at least somebody is making some money!!!
