    used to pack a tape measure in my 'kit bag' when I drove... if I slip-seated, every truck got measured (tractor length, width, height, wheelbase), plus measuring the trailer's overall dimensions (or the load, for 'deck' work)... saved my bacon more than once...

    Hey Niqi,
    "A truck driver was driving along on the freeway. A sign comes up that reads "low bridge ahead." Before he knows it the bridge is right ahead of him and he gets stuck under the bridge. Cars are backed up for miles. Finally, a police car comes up. The cop gets out of his car and walks around to the truck driver, puts his hands on his hips and says, "Got stuck, huh?" The truck driver says, "No, I was delivering this bridge and ran out of gas."

    Dauminique, The tarp motor is improperly installed. It can be turned to where it doesn't protrude above the cab protector. Also get those stacks down to match the height of the cab protector. After that, get up in the box, climb on top of the cab protector, and measure down to the ground while unloaded and on level concrete paving. Do this on both sides of the truck. Take the maximum distance and add 4 inches. Record this somewhere and also post it on the dash of your truck so you can always see it. Write it with a magic marker if you have to. Most low bridges have the clearance height posted. You don't want to become stuck under one especially in heavy traffic. You did a good job of making sure you didn't damage your truck or the bridge. 👏👏

    FYI, that taillight that doesn't always work could be a bad ground, pull it out and clean up both the light fixture and the truck frame where the light fixture makes contact with the truck frame. If you still have problems after that, then replace the light.

      I have seen with dump trucks, the bed pivot pins are usually greased. Grease creates high resistance. These pivots pins are the only electrical ground points.
      Adding a heavy & very flexible ground cable from the bed to the truck frame, insures a good ground for lights, vibrators, and tarps ect.

      The type of light she is using has a plug with 3 wires. The trouble is that dirt gets in the plug and prevents it from making a good complete connection. Then vibration can cause the plug to come loose. Take the light out and blow out the plug and socket with compressed air. Then put some copper compound anti seize on the male portion of the plug. Push it firmly into the socket and reassemble. That should fix it. Does for me anyway.

    Holy crap that is a low bridge, I can well imagine the number of victims its collected over the years and would include RV's and so on, no way would even a two wheel drive farm tractor with cab and stacks fit under that, I have had to cut farm tractor exhaust stacks and highway tractor stacks way down just so I could get it into a shed with a door height a foot taller then the bridge you experimented to see if you could slip under. I've had that same annoying issue with a tail light on one of my trucks and in my case it was corrosion and next to nothing left of one of the connections, tap on the light and it would work LOL. Pulled the light out and saw the problem, soldered on a new pigtail and new light and grommet. I now have a small stash of tail lights, pigtails and the rubber grommets as those grommets get hard over time and the light rattles around in it and yet would break the light to pry it out of that rock hard rubber grommet.

      I am getting mixed fill from a local landscaper. He needed a place to get rid of it. Watching them dump their small 4 yard trucks is too scary. They are not careful about making sure the truck is not to un-level side to side. The last two loads were pretty wet and it didn't want to slide out. I was hoping the truck didn't tip or them bend something.

    First time I was on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway in New York, the signs on the first bridge said 12’6”. The truck ahead of me said, 13’6” will fit. So, I followed him. He was right. All the bridges were marked like that, but the locals knew better.
    Don’t do that in Chicago though. 12’6 is real! Chicago has tons of low bridges.

      I'm a heavy haul/oversize guy, and I NEVER trust a bridge height sign, or anybody telling me "yeah, you can fit". Too many of these rookies buy a cheap car GPS which doesn't list the bridge heights, weight restrictions or truck routes, then they make a nice new trailer a convertible and wonder why. Do your due diligence and check marked bridges yourself, and always know your height, including your stacks.

We mix salt in with our sand, though no where near what WSDOT does. So you can imagine how rusty and corroded those quick connects get. As always another great video. I love the fact that you didn't just take someone's word that you could fit under the bridge. An ounce of caution is worth more than a lb. of cure. Back in the day when I drove otr and in Chicago I did my best to stay out of the far right lane. The reason being I always felt that if the bridge was low it would be at the end. I noticed that the scales shot water out in order to clean your wheels and to try and keep the mud off the scales. Keep up the hard work and being professional in all you do. Prayers to you and your family.

      It’s called a wheel wash. It’s to keep the dirt off of the roads.

    Low bridges can be bad for business. Noted. Never rush into things. Saved you alot of money and time that can't be replaced.

    Even if you could have made it under the bridge loaded ,you never would have made it back under the bridge empty . You did it right .

    Thought about airbags for the front end? That way you could lower it when encountering these obstacles.

    Theres a bridge here in Durham Nc. Go to 11’8” on youtube. Once a month a truck goes under and splits it like a can opener. You were smart to go around!!!

    Take the tail light out and clean the metal around the light and the frame, it maybe a bad ground being that you spun it and it worked.

    • @sohomesick1
      @sohomesick1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That tail light is rubber mounted, doesn't touch anything metal. But does have its own ground wire.

    • @goodboyringo9716
      @goodboyringo9716 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sohomesick1 ... It should be rubber mounted but if you listen as she turns the light it sounds like there is metal to metal ( could be dirt) but
      it is a bad ground in my opinion.
