The words "I know" mean so much in Star Wars. When Thrawn changes his response from "So I've been told" to "I know," it's a really poignant moment. He acknowledges and accepts that Anakin is gone, and there is only Vader.

In the end Thrawn confirmed at least two things for himself:

If I recall, the only reason thrawn joined the empire was to utilize them as a tool to combat the growing threat in the unknown regions. Vader was right to question thrawns loyalties to the empire, as there was none. On a side note, it would be interesting to see how Disney plays out thrawns adventures with Ezra.

I finished Thrawn: Alliances yesterday. One of my favourite bits from their interactions was Vader, again questioning Thrawn of his true loyalty, sort of rolling his eyes at Thrawn when he says Vader would stop him from betraying the Empire, so it's not a smart decision. Vader basically says "I'm sure you've thought of some way to kill me, right?" and Thrawn replies, "Three ways, actually."
It would be a truly epic battle, still in the end I favor Vader.
Other geniuses have been trying to kill him for years exploiting every weakness and design flaw he's got, and Vader wins every time.
Thrawn probably believes it’s wise to think of ways to kill Vader. But even he knows it would be stupid to actually try; which is probably why we will never see Thrawn vs Vader ever happen. No matter how ingenious or foolproof Thrawn’s plans are, we all know exactly who would win that fight.

Thrawn may very well be the most complex and fascinating character in Star Wars. Intelligent, fearless and completely dedicated. Ruthless when necessary but not evil, it's all about achieving a goal. And to top it all off, able to troll and manipulate Jedi Masters and Sith Lords alike.

I have this book on my shelf. Thrawn never intenionally 'trolls' vader. The video makes out that Thrawn took the piss out of him with the skywalker translation thing. In the book, when they originally met, Thrawn is initially confused about Anakins last name, something that Anakin takes note of at the time. Later, when he explains how 'skywalker' is what the chiss call the force sensitive kids as guides, Vader actually appreciates it somewhat, thinking of it as a 'small mystery, now put to rest.' At the end of the book vader and Thrawn have come to a sort of mutual appreciation and form of trust. Vader basically comes to terms with the fact he knows the truth and says they and thrawn will never mention or discuss him again. Thrawn agrees but says that he will continue to respect his legacy. Then after some awkward silence Vader offers to promote the TIE defender program (he flies one earlier in the book and thinks the only thing better is his TIE advanced X1) and suggests some design improvements, which are actually implemented in the elite version seen in 'Rebels' which is a pretty dope tie-in.
I’m a little late but this can be considered a wholesome moment with Vader then?

Thrawn in my opinion is one of the best Star Wars Characters due to his passion for any Species art and can understand and adapt to any situation in a moments notice, If anyone could single headedly take down an intire Army with just their Great tactical mind without a doubt that Honour would go to Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Darth Volent no tarkin made a critical error thrawn would never make on the Death Star and in rogue one. He overestimated the power of his new weapon. Even darth Vader tried to warm him of his hubris. Thrown only lost to Ezra because an impossible to see intervention by the purgil. Flying space whales.

Thrawn's best achievments weren't even outlined one bit in SW: Rebels. Read the Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zhan. It would have made a far better, fun, and exciting sequel trilogy, hands down. He had the New Reublic, plus Luke, Leia and Han against a wall with only a small number of Imperial Remnant ships.

I love the canon version of Thrawn so much. I wasn’t too fond of the Rebels series, but his portrayal in it, as well as the books, was fantastic. I wish he had killed Gallius Rax instead of Sloane. I would have loved it if Thrawn had created the First Order.

They call thrawn a genius, but how hard is it to figure out palpatine's favorite jedi that he knew all his life mysteriously dies without any record, only to have Vader show up, commanding the 501st and using force powers. Such a connection requires a grand mind indeed

Palpatine's insistence that Vader and Thrawn work together on the mission is the only thing that saved Thrawn's life from Vader, to be honest.

I think it has more to do with Thrawn carefully and succesfully walking the line. Always some subtle comment that could or could not be made innocently or by mistake, which is why Vader constantly probes Thrawn's feelings instead of getting angry right away. The fact that things are never said openly, and that Thrawn is a Grand Admiral selected by Palpatine is enough to protect him from random murder based on mere suspicion, and Thrawn surely knows that.
The last one (about the debt he owed to Anakin) did cross that line (and THAT made Vader angry), but as Thrawn did aknowledge Anakin's 'death' right after, there was no reason for Vader to kill him. At least that's how I see it.
Makes the ordeal of Luke being able to rescue his father from this mental state all that much more incredible

The tense relationship between Vader and Thrawn was as great as I imagined it would be. Vader flying a Defender and suggesting the improvements that we later see in Rebels was awesome. I also loved the subtle ways that Thrawn let on his awareness of Vader's identity. Even though Anakin didn't come close to having the relationship with Thrawn that he had with Padme, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan, Thrawn's "I know" moment to Vader still managed to hit me in the feels a little bit. He really respected the fuck out of Anakin.

Thrawn knows exactly how to test anyone without setting them off, which comes in handy when testing a sith lord
You forgot the one where Thrawn actually referred to an idea Anakin had all these years before, as Vaders idea. Anakin, while discovering that lightsaberresistent clone-armor was being built alongside lightsaberresistent B2 droids, thought of an infiltration of the senate. Thrawn wasn‘t convinced and told Vader while being back on Batuu why he wasn‘t convinced, referring to Anakins idea as „your idea“, while talking to Vader. On top of that, just a minor thing really, i seem to remember that Thrawn actually told Vader that they called their pilots „Skywalkers“ before telling him the chiss-phrase. Other than that: nice video!

Thrawn is a Master, a Master at Trolling. He mustive learned from this by the High Ground Himself, Obi-Wan
If Tarkin could figure it out by observing a few patterns, then so could Thrawn. He definitely had strong suspicions and dropped those hints to get more information. The book shows the lengths Thrawn will go to to acquire information throughout the book, even if it means risking his life for it then he will, and reminds us that he never does anything without a reason.

And with that last shout, Lord Vader excused himself. Retreating once more to his miserable existance of servitude to his ungrateful master. As for the Grand Admiral, he finished his report and logged it to the imperial database. However not in one go, he had to write again because just as he was about send it he notice a mistake.
The operation had no casualties, and yet he had typed in Anakin's name as a casualty. This was a strange feeling. It took him a minute to realized that what he felt was defeat.
"Yes, defeat." He said to himself. Thrawn had envision his service to the empire with Skywalker by his side. But alas, Thrawn had failed to save his comarade from the dark abyss known as Vader. And so the admiral simply wrote his report again and threw himself back to work and help reshape the galaxy into a example of order and justice.
And silently swore, that under his watch no more good men like Anakin would be lost to whatever defeat created Vader. Because even though Vader had proven as an effective and damn near perfect ally, what Thrawn needed despite him never admitting it was a friend.

I think it’s interesting that Thrawn keeps pushing Vader’s limits throughout the story, until Vader indirectly admits to the Grand Admiral that he used to be Anakin Skywalker! Also interesting on what the Chiss called those of their people that did hyperspace navigation!
