    Right on, Joe! Excellent that you stress the requirement to shoot line through your non-reel hand to be ready for instant strip retrieve the instant the fly hits the water. Thank you for another great video!

      We love it. You can go as hard core or as casual as you want. Tough to do that with Permit haha. My wife and I did one Permit trip to Belize and it was tough to get her back on a salt boat after that.

    Awesome video! Probably the best most comprehensive video you have done. I think I have ever seen, bar none. Gear, presentation, and how to fish the Dorado. Wonderful insight. Incredible camera lady as well. Well done. I want more. Best!

    Your wife is smart enough to not ask you to teach her to fish ;)

      Yea I thought that was pretty funny. In camera “I probably should have looked up what to do” 😂

    Great video, brings back lots of memories! Nothing compares to offshore saltwater fly fishing Did you mention to always keep the first fish in the water as there are always more Dorado! We caught 5 huge dorado off a stick floating in the gulf.

      Great reminder yes, keeping that Dorado flashing around near the boat gets 'em fired up. Easy double that way. I have not yet landed a truly "big" Bull Dorado but I'm looking forward to it. I had a similar experience to your "stick" by catching numerous fish under a dead Pelican one time. Doesn't take much!

    You mentioned keeping a fish or two for sashimi… do you ever fly fish for yellowtail down there? I grew up gear fishing for those in San Diego and they are one of the hardest fighting and best tasting fish I’ve ever done battle with! They don’t jump but pound for pound much tougher than dorado.

    Great video. One question about the lines you're using. Are those intermediate, floating, sinking lines?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These lines are an F/H/I "Triple Density" floating running line (makes picking up the cast easier), a "hover body" that barely sinks, and an Intermediate clear tip that is about 2 inches per second on sink rate. Here is a link to the line I prefer: redsflyfishing.com/products/rio-elite-tropical-outbound-short

    Thanks for the info! Would a 10wt payload work for roosters and dorado?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes it will, that rod will cast these big flies and sinking lines like a boss. My preference is for a true saltwater rod, they seem to be tougher around the boat. Roosterfish and Pelagic fish are going to be a helluva lot stronger than Pike or Musky that it might have been intended for. At the end of the day however, YES, that rod will work great 99.9% of the time.

    Joe - pumped for my Baja trip next month. hoping to get into some Dorado and Roosters too. quick question, is that outbound short line full float, full sink, or something in between? what do you recommend for inshore fishing?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good luck down there, it's the F/H/I - love that line. redsflyfishing.com/products/rio-elite-tropical-outbound-short

    Quote " when you see a sardine tailwalking across the surface " Smashed them with a crease fly last summer - give them a go.

      Oh that is good fun, the cavitation on those distorts their perception of the fly. It can work incredibly well.
