I really enjoy your videos. Just the right amount of info. People can't remember lots of detail, especially when they are fishing and are excited. Fundamentals are what you need and then let the guide get into specifics. Well done.

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Just about to buy my first salt fly rod.
Bonefishing is definitely on my must do list.

Excellent! You'll love it. It's good adrenaline when you spot that fish, make a stalk, then choose when to deliver that perfect delicate cast. Like bowhunting with a fly.

Great tips Joe, as always. Those glasses seem to be the Smith Optics Guide’s Choice, if I took a guess. 😉

      Hello from Coos Bay Oregon
Excellent tutorial, Do you have a recommendation for sunglasse tint(s) for the varying conditions?
      Many thanks....keepemtight

One thing I’d suggest when doing that calibration cast to find out what they call twenty yards is, is measure out how much line you cast out in arm lengths too.

Yes indeed. Classy. The Sextant is a fabulous rod. I fished the 8 and 9 weights a ton and will post a review very soon.

The great thing about bones is they are more common than some think. At my favorite Yucatan resort surrounded surrounded by Mex. NWR has nice grass beds, springs, rocks and flats... and plenty of bones. The sargasso sucks, but their are still plenty of bones where the habitat is decent. High winds, sargasso and murky water are the norm, so sight fishing doesn't always work, at least where I am right now.

Great point, there is a lot of fishing to be done if you are willing to look close while others drive by. Good reminder.

@@redsflyshop On days with low wind and calm surf you can see schools of them practically up to the water's edge when snorkeling. Unfortunately those days can be rare where we stay, but I did have some luck one afternoon. What a fight those guys offer. My first bone of any size and it fought like a fish gone crazy.

Thank you, I never go on these trips with the intention of doing a film so often I don't bring anything more than a GoPro or a phone, but I'm getting better and now have a good DJI mic with the dead cat muff so hopefully in the future I'll get the audio smoothed out.

Great video. Are you using a tapered leader, such as Rio’s 9’ bonefish leader and adding 16# fluorocarbon to the tip? 15’ total? Thank you

I have not, we sold AF for a while and I liked their lines. I haven't used one in years but I hear nice things. Sounds like that company is on the rebound.

An old set of Simms pliers, they are really great. Totally worth the money. Wasn’t sure at the time but 10 years later… still pinching.

@@redsflyshopquick q - the link in description for leaders I believe are the nylon ones. Are flouro leader absolutely necessary?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  ปีที่แล้ว

Not "essential" but Fluoro is better IMO. Tougher, less visible, just slightly more expensive.@@BROWLANDROSS

Sound production dude - First the strip club beat drowning you out - then the wind - spend the buck thirty eight to buy a windscreen for your microphone
