"Ketchupy", is how I defined a sneaky note there. Amazing whisky.
It really is a good whisky! Cheers!
It’s a flavor explosion!
On the first sip, the image that popped into my mind was a mouthful of fireworks!
Not all the flavors are for the faint of heart.
It’s a full-bodied whiskey.
I think that Copper Dog, a NAS, Speyside only, blended malt, is probably largely made up of young Craigellachie if you’ve ever had it.
Copper Dog is not quite as bold and flavorful, but it’s less than half the price of Craigellachie 13.
Thanks for the recommendation. I will keep an eye out for it. I'm not sure if I've seen it in my location, but I'll look next time I'm out. Cheers!
A favorite for sure! I get sweet vanilla, slightly overripe peppered bananas note and an oak char. I love the viscosity of this whisky, and I'm sure it has to do with the worm tub cooling. Great mouth coat, thick and weighty, with an enjoyably medium long finish. I keep coming back this -- it never grows tiresome or boring. This has become a staple. A few drops of water and it really opens up...
It's one of my favorite bottles as well. I will always replace it.
Finally someone drawing a connecting line between Craigellachie 13 and Springbank. My top two products.
Both very good! I have been enjoying them very much. They are in a class by themselves.
It's freaking good, one of my favorites 25 whiskey...
It's just amazing value
Good value and a very unique profile. Cheers!
One of our absolute favourite distilleries. It certainly has some funk to it!
I'm looking forward to trying the other expressions from them. I keep seeing them, but passing them up. Not next time!
got this bottle cause it was on sale and didn't have a clue what it was besides it being a Speyside. What a tasty Scotch. It's hard to describe. It's sweet, spicy, but also I can taste iodine and smoke. So good. And I've got more and more drawn to it as the days go by. I will certainly be getting another bottle.
I agree it's a hard bottle to describe, but it's fun to try because it's so good.
The nose to me is a bit higher in alcohol content than I usually prefer. But a roasted pineapple comes to mind on tasting. There's a lot less wood flavor than many others, which I like. It doesn't leave me with a medicinal finish, but like you said, it's very long. Second and subsequent tastings are less overpowering and honestly sort of warm. I don't like peated scotch, so this one in particular is becoming a favorite.
I am certainly appreciating this one more and more each time I go back to it. Thanks Timothy. Cheers.
I just purchased a bottle and love it! Great value.
I agree. I like it more because of the value. Especially with the price of whisk(e)y going up these days.
1st time watching one of your videos, great job.
Love Craigellachie, and love the undefinable note or notes. I do think the opposite of your comment that it's not a "beginners whisky". I love to use it with newbies to help the serious ones see the possible complexity of a single malt. That is not just a drink that burns. But especially that there is varying changes even in 1 glass/dram if your patient and willing to be a true appreciator of whisky.
Thanks for showing a true appreciation despite the challenge.
Thank you. I appreciate the feedback. It would be a good experiment to serve this to someone new and see what they could pull out of it. Challenge them for the start. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney Blind Tasting are the best. 😉
That veggie sweetness is right on the money and is such a unique dram. For me it is like chip shop oil and spiced meat. Great review 👍
This and the Clynelish 14 were the most interesting drams I had in 2022. Looking forward to the interesting drams in 2023.
Great review sir. Thank you. I am about half way through my first bottle of this little beast. It definitely fights back a bit. But in a really good way. My guess is that it will keep revealing more as I go through the bottle and my palate begins to understand this savory and very interesting malt.
I still have not figured it out, but I still like it very much.
i absolutely love it! also can' t beat that price for a 13 y.o. whisky.
I can't agree with you more. I'm reaching for this more and more.
Discovered this dram quite a few years ago, it was love at first sip😂.
Always a bottle at home
I agree. I'll have this on my shelf as well.
Good review. Great dram especially for the price.. $50 my area!
Cheers 🥃
That's great at $50.00 and availability is good as well.
I just bought a bottle yesterday opened it up today. It is very good. I am enjoying it with a little bit of Yoshi had a couple of dreams of each both very nice.
I'm enjoying this bottle as well. It's gritty and complex whisky.
Great whisky! That special note can be a rotten/earthy/fruity/vegetale thing, from the worm tubes,as you mentioned. Anyway, it.s delicious! Cheers!🥃🥃
This is a good bottle to challenge your palate. Sit with it and try to figure it out as you go crazy trying. It's a good one. Cheers.
Never tried this one yet, but its going up to near the top of my list and im not a fan of speysides in general, im an islay/peated guy. Cheers
It ranks right up there with the Clynelish. If you end up getting it I hope you enjoy it.
My favorite whiskey is:
Glen Garioch 12
It's just a original old whiskey test, please I'm waiting a review about it
Unfortunately, I don't have the Glen Garioch 12 to review. I'll put it on my list. Cheers!

I'm waiting
@@whiskeyisajourney
It's old school whiskey but trust me, honestly you gonna shock when you test it, it's hidden gem
Absolutely wonderful review Peter. Last time I was at Total Wine, I grabbed the Bas Armagnac cask finished version.
It has all the complexity or the original and then some. An explosion of baked apples and spices.
I completely agree. I have it in my collection and have been enjoying it as well.
I love it. Reminds of a better version of a Macallan 12 Sherry cask. A staple on my whiskey cart.
I like it more and more each time I have it.
The Job of the Worm Tubs is exactly the opposite. They are used to NOT get a lot of contact on copper. The Craigellachie distillery does everything to not get a lot of copper contact. First and foremost to keep those sulfury notes from the oil fired kiln from Glenesk that produces the malted barley for them. Less copper contact and lots of heat gives Craigellachie that sulfury, meat, musky flavor next to the typical Speyside exotic fruit notes.
The company construction is very simple. Bacardi is owner of John Dewar's & Sons since 1998 and JDS is basically the Scotch Whisky department of Bacardi.
That is all fantastic information! Thank you very much. I really appreciate the comments. Are you in the whisk(e)y business? Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney Yes, I've been working at Bacardi in Germany for the Whisky branch for 4.5 years. ;) you're very welcome. I do work now for Beam-Suntory/Edrington
I had it for the first time in a bar last night, I've been so curious about it, at first it gave me strong bourbon vibes. I got but couldn't define the undefinable note hehe
I keep trying it and I'm still confused. I like it. I just can't figure it out.
A striking match note
A little or slight sulfur note.
I like your channel friend. Cheers
Thanks. I'm enjoying the process of shooting the videos and tasting a lot of good whisk(e)y. I appreciate the feedback. Cheers!
The "loudness" of the label on the bottle always put me a little bit of into buying a Craigellegie, maybe I should just try it😂😂😂😂🥃
That's funny, but I see what you are saying. It sure is busy. For as loud as the label is, it matches how loud it is on the palate.
@@whiskeyisajourney If the label matches the pallet then one is in for a treat😃
Hi
I watch all your videos, and the smell and taste I think you aren't getting is linen on the smell and taste, at least that's what is for me the hard to figure out, otherwise I get what you are describing in this whisky, there is a little smoke and a hint of pepper, and fresh linen, hope this helps !!!
Thanks! Anything helps. I can't figure this whisky out. Next time I have it I'll try and find that note. Cheers!
Craigellachie is not for beginners. I remember a grassy, herbaceous "green" note, a faint hint of smoke along with a woody spiciness from the cask. It's a pretty astringent & unique dram.
This is one of the most complex bottles I own. It is such an enjoyable pour. Cheers!
Bacardi-Martini owns John Dewer and Sons
Good to know. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate it. Cheers.
sulfur
Next time I pour it I'll try and find that note. Thanks.
