  • Craigellachie 13 year old. A Speyside whisky that, in my opinion, doesn't get talked about enough. Do I talk about it enough? Well why not watch this review and decide for yourselves.
    Enjoy.

    Thanks for the review Jim. Craigellachie 13 always has a spot to live on in my whisky cupboard. I just replaced an empty bottle.

    I am loving my Craigellachie lately. Starting to think of it as the poor man's Springbank. Although I do like Springbank better. But to be fair Craigellachie is quite good on its own and it is not the same as Springbank. Great quality for money in my location. A great whisky and a great review.

  • @MrChristopherMolloy
    @MrChristopherMolloy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Totally agree about the comparison to Springbank 15, but at HALF the price of that Springbank, the Craigallachie is a SUPER value IMO. A more budget-friendly option in the "Dirty Whisky" category might be Loch Lomond 12, and like the Springbank, it has a hint of smoke.

    Yummy whisky. Sweet. Full of apples, soursop, vanilla. Faint bitterness. What's that wood taste? Is that oak, or...?

    I got talked into buying this by a random stranger while looking for a bottle of Artbeg 10, and man am I glad I did. This is a fantastic whiskey, deep and full with immense complexity. I swear each taste is different. I can’t wait until the bottle settles because I know it’s only going to get better. Get a damn bottle of this shit if you’re a scotch lover I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Good video !

    Wow, that intro must have taken you a month of hours to create-- what a masterpiece! And, speaking of masterpieces, this is a good one. I think the 17 is a worthy upgrade, but the 13 is much more interesting than most Speyside. Boy, did you give it a compliment by comparing it to SB 15-- I love that one.

    • @WhiskeyNovice
      @WhiskeyNovice  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd love to claim that I toiled for hours over that intro Bud but, the truth is, it was created using an app I found called Reface. I wish there were more freedom with it but you're limited to specific clips. I'd love it to have been me that Pam discovered in the shower in that classic Dallas scene 😄.
      Yeah I love this expression. Well made and it shows. Although, the SB 15 is almost a standalone whisky...I do believe this Craigellachie is worthy in the same company.
      Cheers my friend.

    Well…you did it man. You tipped me over the edge here with the Craigellachie. Been pondering buying one for a few months and after this review I thought…well…shit, now I gotta try it (too bad you don’t get kick backs!$$$). I like it quite a bit. I love how dirty and filthy it is. I don’t really like speysides because they’re so clean for the most part. Ends up tasting like malty barrel aged vodka. This scotch though has a lot of character. It’s like Dewar’s in a purified form with boatloads of more funkiness and character. I can get it for around $45USD. Good deal for sure.

    Nice on Jim! To me this is is a whisky that lures you in with the promise of something soft and sweet, but it has a bit of a bite, a bit of oomph, something spicy and peppery that adds to the character. Shame the 17 is creeping up in price (and the 23 yo is just ridiculously expensive)

    Really enjoyed this one Jim. This whisky has been high on my radar for a few weeks now. I had a dram of the 17 yo in a whisky bar in Aberlour in early September. I thought I was ordering a Glenallachie but she misheard my sassanach accent 🤣. Good mistake - the 17 is a spectacular whisky, but oh so pricy! So the 13 looks a great option as a proper introduction to the distillery (tho’ I’m tempted by some of the independent bottling). It seems a proper old fashioned, full flavoured dram.
    Anyways, really informative review... really great to see a focus on this whisky.

    It was thanks to this bottle that I got into Craigellachie in a big way about 5 years ago. Don’t bother with the 17, yes it’s good but too pricey. Tried independent bottlings and they were all great, still have a sherried Craigellachie from Wemyss and a bourbon matured from AD Rattray.

      @WhiskeyNovice  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    OK Yes I have been drinking but WTF is that intro about ! Love this Whisky. The bottle changes quite a bit as you go through it. Got my first one of these early in my journey. Many people say this is not a beginner dram but glad I paid no attention as this has fruit and savory (some say meaty but I think savory is more appropriate). For the money don't think much else will deliver this much experience. Cheers Jim

      @@RomainRiviere I have communicated directly with Horst Lüning about it. When there is no mention of colour (that means you can´t find "Mit Farbstoff" anywhere), then there definitely is no colour added. On the other hand, if you find this phrase, there is still a small chance (15% or so) that there was no colour added. Horst has to be careful due to potential legal implications.
